@@willie9397 Yep i saw them too, honestly super childish and ridiculous and or just petty and nit picky. Sometimes they just hate to hate, they can't even tell you why they hate it, they just say it's ugly or it's not the old Bronco or no v8 no buy bs or whatever other excuse.
My cousin thinks it looks too much like a Jeep from certain angles and an FJ Cruiser. I really don’t get his perspective. It looks exactly what an old school bronco would look like today. We hardly agree on cars so I shouldn’t be too surprised.
@@LanceAtallahMusic if you like rock crawling, buy the badlands since it has the sway bar disconnect. I like high speed offroading so the wiltrak was an easy pick for me
This is the first vehicle design in a while that hasn’t taken any time to grow on me. It’s absolutely beautiful on screen and I’m sure it’s even better in person. I think ford has a big hit on their hands. It’ll be interesting to see if the bronco revives the market for traditional body on frame SUVs bringing new competitors coming back to the segment.
Ian Shaw if you go badlands i dont see the purpose of adding sasquatch package at all. Id rather have 33 AT than 35 MT. Thats basically all that changes on a badlands lol
Paul is a madman! So cool hearing how much work this thing took! I like it more and more every time I see it! And I too was privileged enough to see it in person, and it's still growing on me! haha
It's so amazing to hear from a designer. It's typically the CEO or a spokesman and never the designer. I've always hated that about the automotive world.
"Simple is hard" that will forever stick with me for the rest of my life in terms of car design and many things in life that i think matches this description.
"Maybe my ideal spec is the one we haven't done yet" says the chief designer at the end.. Is it just me or is he hinting on an upcoming Raptor version..
New customers like me, dont come from the Jeep market. I have several times over the last twenty years looked at a Wrangler Jeep. Always walked away and bought something else. The Jeep has always conveyed a level of cheapness, and tinniness. I have heard from others who had them that they broke often. I like the Bronco,as it is a newer technology. Jeep just kinda became complacent.
James Henry same. Id go to dealerships with my wife and look at the Wranglers. My wife would just be like “get it out of your system”. We always end up leaving the lot empty handed. I love the look but never feel like im getting enough for what im paying for..which is essentially the brand itself. Id always be like damn..5 inch screen and crap stuff on base Sport or Sport s and its completely outpriced and outdated in terms of constructivity. Id always be like damn this is pricey for just a base trim...dealers always say the same excuse..well its a Wrangler. Thats it. Thats the response 100% of the time. Finally we saw the unveiling of the Bronco on the day of, and a few days prior we were considering a Wrangler again. My wife and I fell in love with the new Bronco. We havent put a reservation but we are definitely getting one when they hit lots. I want to see it up close, test drive it, see the seating options, etc. then I’ll order one.
@@TheMoistDonuts Nice anecdotes. I'm a little behind you guys since I never even bothered to look at Jeeps when considering a new vehicle, but ironically, the new Bronco has opened my eyes to Jeeps and this "new" vehicle segment, of course if had to choose between the two right now, it'll probably be the Bronco. Judging by your comments, it seems Jeep got cocky/complacent, charging a lot for less features, not really a "value purchase" but mainly you're buying the brand's cachet...would it be fair to compare them to Harley-Davidson's attitude? This Bronco looks so tempting...especially that 2 door Cyber Orange flagship model👍
Good Job guys u nailed it! Thank you Ford for listening to the Bronco base that has been waiting for this for YEARS! I have reserved a two door! Black Diamond, 2.7l Auto w/ Sasquatch package!
Its such a Perfect design! So Retro yet so new. And he made one comment that stood out to be soooooo true. "simple is hard" The bronco looks simple, but all its proportions are just rite, and if you get any of them wrong it all looks wrong. But something like a supercar that looks exciting can actually be ugly yet be striking enough with individual features that makes it attactive. Many Ferraris are actually ugly, But they always have design Features youve never seen used in an actual road going car, so they are all striking to look at. This new Bronco is something that normally would only exists as a concept vehicle. something so rite and so perfect that would normally get completely watered down into less that a shadow of concept with the production model. This is the exact opposite of that scenario, and seldom seen accomplished in the automotive industry. Im talking about cars like the Porsche Carrera GT, The FORDGT, cars that debuted as something that would never be sold to the public but actually did. This is mostly due to Ford having the Leeway to do it rite since they litterally axed their entire fleet of cars, minus the mustang. Now they have the financies and manpower to create something great, and they did, and they had to, because Like the Jeep Wrangler, This isnt a normal vehicle which gets design updates year after year. This is a Brand specific vehicle, and thankfully Ford is playing it as such. Bronco as its own sub brand with its own fleet of vehicles. So its look does not have to change every other model year. Its is what it is as a product. more over. They were super smart to include everything you could want straight out the gate. Meaning.. this thing will sell like hotcakes!!!!!. forget about the Tesla CyberTruck. Bronco just killed it. The only other Vehicle that will see some decent sales will be the forthcoming Rivian who are in partnership with ford. But even that will have a hard sell due to its price. This Bronco as great as it is, even has a great price and entry level. they just hit the ball out the park. During a time when people are itching at the idea of teh great outdoors due to covid 19.
Thank you for this interview. I made a less than half hearted attempt to become an automotive designer thirty years ago. Not sure if I could have dealt with the high pressure that surrounds developing a vehicle or living in an unfamiliar location. It remains a childhood dream but a less than feasible adult reality. I still love mostly cars and some SUVs. The new Broncos are absolutely well done and now I'm thinking I'd like to replace my car with one. We'll see what opportunities the future brings. BRAVO FORD and Thank You for instilling hope for the US auto industry.
Yeee, Black Diamond! thats the one i picked too. As a Canadian I hate dealing with floor mats & wet seats lol the rubberized floor & Vinyl seats solves the issue almost entirely. Gonna wait on the 35s though.
Terrific interview! I have a '77 Bronco that needs to be rebuilt from the tub forward. That project begins this next year. I have ordered a '22 Cyber orange 2 door Badlands, Sasquatch with the High pkg. and tow pkg. In my opinion, this team absolutely nailed this vehicle! It has the look, capability and modification intrigue that you know the majority of us will in some way experiment with. The "Easter eggs" honoring the heritage of the original is pure class! The emblem on the center console mimicking the grille of the original (rivets for headlights) is nothing but genius and pride. Hats off to the entire team. Now I just have to wait for likely over a year to get my new one.
Oh yeah! Ford isn't just tossing parts together half ass. They're working projects from paper to pavement..... or off road and have researched off road owners complaints and addressed them in design and function. They took their time and it shows.
This is the bronco that we deserved. Thank you for doing an amazing job! I hope he hears that. I am genuinely excited about getting this vehicle. I haven't been this excited in years! I haven't been this excited since my wedding day!
This was insanely entertaining, you can see why the Bronco came together the way it did with this guy behind polishing the lines. 4 door, V6, Badlands, Cyber Orange is in my future
I like how the front bumper tow shackles are shaped like horseshoes. Whether it is intentional or not, I don’t care; it plays into the “bronco” theme. Perhaps an aftermarket shackle design can nail the horseshoe motif...(pun intended)!
Ford did an amazing job on the new Bronco! It's really cool and amazing to get turn assist like a Land Cruiser and full front and rear lockers! Toyota needs to take note on this redesign, and bring back the 300 series in more of the form of the 40 to 60 series. I believe the Bronco will be a huge success! Maybe Ford will surprise us some day and add a 5.0 V8 to the option list at some point with a nice exhaust note! The 2.7 should pull that around very nice though.
Okay, Okay, Okay!!! What a happy coincidence! I was just talking today at my Ford dealer this morning about my favorite spec. I said 2 door, 7 speed, Sasquatch, Base or Black Diamond. I also said "I wonder who the designer is?" Brits like basic utility vehicles too. When he said "maybe something we haven't done YET", did anyone else think he meant the V8? When he said they weren't looking to sell it "in Europe" do you think he meant « we may build a left hand drive version in Thailand for Australia, and my homeland of Great Britain! » Does this Bronco make Ford a disruptor? It is capable, desirable, adaptable, Instagramable, affordable and many other "ables". So it goes without saying that it kicks Jeep Wrangler right in the plums. It also attacks the unpretentious G-wagen customer base, (if there is any) with a less expensive yet somehow more desirable triple locked utility vehicle. Next it absolutely crushes the new defender, as it has real British design! Next it hits Land Rover again because who is going to pay their refurbished classics rates for a basic old car when you could have this. Next it kills he Defender imports values, because who will spend a $100G's on a 25 year old clangy, clattery, elbow crushing Defender now. Ditto for all the other importers like Land Cruiser 70 series et.. It also hits the restomod industry because who will wait 2 years and pay $120,000 for a build up of a 66 Bronco when you can just go to your dealer and sign to lease this? Then there is all the accessories! This guy may be the most influential auto designer of this century!
Great interview. Can't wait to discover the Easter eggs. I can't believe I missed the Lincoln emblem in the headlights of my MKX. very subtle but effective
Emme's enthusiasm is sooo catchy! I can't wait either, I've been on the website to try out spec and contrast and compare between what I wish for and what I can afford. LOL
That would be really fun to do honestly, best part even is that this is just the current specs, you still have tons of things to add on later like say.... 200 possible options to choose from and millions of combinations XD
Thanks for the comment, Duminda. Ford has shown the production design. Just make sure if you see the doors-off gray four-door or the orange two-door with the donut-hole half doors that you realize they both have a lot of additional aftermarket parts on them to illustrate what’s possible with the base vehicle.
This is the coolest toy for grown ups, it looks like a timeless design so I feel that they really did an amazing job. I hope that mechanically it is reliable and ford doesn’t mess up the built quality. I strongly believe ford doesn’t have an issue making great cars, it is the exclusion where they mess up. This car is distinctive, timeless, exciting to look at it, looks rugged, has adaptability. It is really a great design.
Can someone please talk about that windowed door. It looks like the door has a lower window for spotting while rock crawling? Is that an option? Cost? Is there glass in there? I want it on mine, but what is it?
Samuel Rathbun its an option as a ford upgrade accessory from the factory BUT apparently will only be available on the 2 door models from what ive heard
if your a keen listener you would of heard him say his ideal spec would have 45s on it and he goes on to say perhaps his ideal spec isnt out yet at 28:22 maybe a a new model in a year or so.
Oh ya what an amazing interview with the chief designer. I am so exited this Bronco has been on my mind since the reveal. It is amazing that he kept the ease of panel change out to a minimum and the look of the old school Bronco is amazing. I'm a hard core offroader and have owned a jeep since 1999 I take this thing on trails most people would never do. I am definitely adding the Bronco to my line up my jeep will get to know the the new member of the family soon. The Bronco of choice for me is gonna be the wildtrak red and black i am going for speed this time with 2 inch lift 37" tires 4 doors. I love how the interior looks as well as the exterior and the suspension design. I will do the traditional offroad coilovers and bypass shocks to further soak things up under extreme speeds. Nice job on the design looks amazing wow and I can't wait to get my hands on it for sure.
Great interview! They did such a great job with this new bronco. I have to imagine his answer about which one he wants is alluding to the future raptor/warthog...
Jonathan Ward at ICON makes the best restomods or bone stock original first generation Broncos. My only knock on this design are the arched fender wheel wells and the front grille. The original Ford big block letter grille with inset turn indicators and staggered sloped fender wheel wells are "Iconic". I only wish they could have incorporated that design. What I love is that it's a futuristic design from the original bronco and the innovative functional designs to give Jeep a run for their money. This will provide healthy competition for better vehicles as they compete against each other each trying to outdo each other to sway the public to their side of the fence.
Terrific video and interview! It was nice to see Paul was a down to earth guy. I put a reservation in the other day for one. Today I was disappointed to find out the leather trimmed seats I saw in reveal photos are not going to be offered. The first new 4x4 truck I ever bought was an 82 Toyota SR5 pickup, this Bronco will be the 2nd new 4x4 I will own. If that shows how this design has struck a nerve! Oh and I still have my 82 Toyota. I hope the Bronco will be as reliable.
I am going to purchase one with some disappointment. 4 door Manual v6. Was wanted manual 4 is resigned to Black diamond cause the floor drain and bash armor. Marine grade interior Sasquatch packaged for the 35 and front lock But major disappointment I cannot get swaybar disconnects. To get the model that has disconnect it would seem to price me out and go away from wanted selections . But I will still purchase.
Love, love, love, the new Bronco. Pity we are not getting it here in Australia, as Ford has no plans to build it in RHD. Which is surprising, considering most of the engineering work (not design work) was done by Ford Australia using the Ford Ranger platform. Plus the fact that the Mustang is sold here in RHD from factory. C'mon Ford, build the Bronco in RHD. If you do, I'll have a Bronco 4-Door Wildtrak in Cyber Orange.
*Damn it I am an American in Australia and I want a right-drive Bronco for the outback. My grandfather was a Ford mechanic his whole life. I have always owned Fords. Hell, I own a Ford Territory in Australia now. I have had Bronco's in the past and I feel Ford owes it to me now. Haven't I waited long enough???.*
You know that is coming in 2022. Ford entered the market and laid it all on the line. We knew v6. You KNOWW the Bronco Raptor is coming. And I have to get it...
The 2.7 is the fastest pickup on the road. It blows the doors off the 3.5, 5.0 and the Hemi's and even the 6.2L GM's. They are stout, take a beating and tuners can get even more out of them. (~320/425 at the wheels in a F150!)
They nailed the design. Retro, modern, minimal, simple, and looks 100% truck. If they were hoping to go head-to-head with jeep, this is a promising start.
My heart dropped a little when he said that there was no intention of selling it in Europe so they could get away with stuff that regulations here makes difficult. I guess if I ever would afford one it would be an unregistered one for offroad use only.
The two door model looks fantastic. The attention to design detail is amazing. Lots of little details thought out, and they aren’t gimmicks, they are useful items. Offering a manual transmission really surprised, and interests me. Are the back seats easily removable? It would be great if you could turn it into a little truck bed
