Just bought a 2019 fully loaded. Thank you for teaching me about the features my truck has from factory and great ideas to add. Weirdest thing about my truck is a full on metal safe with combo lock in center console
I have a 22 at4X here in Northern Sask. Thanks for the mention of those noisy tires. I have been hoping for a year that hum was just those tires. It's low but constant at 50K/hr. Great truck. I've owned a few. Love the console shift.
Excellent review. Just bought a Certified 2022 Silverado LTD LTZ (pre-refresh). Picked a 5.3 not the 6.2 or diesel that were right there on the lot as well. Recently sold my 2016 Escalade, so I get the 6.2, and also get the premium fuel. Diesel was tempting, but I have had six LS motors (three 5.3s and three 6.2s) and have been satisfied with all of them. Love the truck and your comments, many of which apply to the Silverado, are right on. Thanks.
just went and spec-ed out my 2022 GMC new gen AT4 Didnt go for the X just a little too much for me right now but got everything i needed and im beyond excited to take delivery this spring/early summer! watching these videos just gets me more amped. I Looked relentlessly for a 2021 but couldn't get a damn thing for less than 10k over sticker... patients paid off i guess!
If you tow a lot and/or drive a ton of miles, get the 3.0 L duramax and a banks pedal monster... completely transforms this truck! I’m so happy with mine. I do mostly highway driving and on a warm day, just me in the truck, I’m getting 31 mpg!
I have a 2020 Sierra SLT with the 3.0L duramax and am curious about the banks pedal monster. What configuration did you go with and what sort of changes did you see with it?
Great review ! I wanted a 2022 specifically because of the interior change and was bummed to hear the release will be delayed. I heard GM has thousands of these trucks waiting for the chips. There could be some deals to be had hopefully in the future when the chips come in as they will have to move the back log of trucks. Time will tell
I think it will be an interesting 6-12 months. Trucks sell better than cars in some cases and they are stockpiling thousands (all major brands). I think deals will be inevitable, like you said, time will tell
Great review thanks! Bought the 21 Escalade for 82k 5 months and 12k miles later Carmax bought it off me for 92k it will be nice to see some deals come beginning 2022 so I can get my hands on one of these. Going with the diesel hopefully. Any take on the diesel? Can’t go wrong with either other than mileage right?
I bought a 2020 Trail Boss LT with the 6.2, zero issues so far and with zero chrome except the exhaust tips, badging and lugnuts. Which I quickly changed to black.😁
My first dislike would be the diesel or 5.3, and must have the 6.2. I drove all 3 options before I purchased mine earlier this year. And I have to say, the 6.2 is by far the best motor to have. 1st - 6.2 2nd - 3.5 Diesel 3rd - 5.3 For the crew cab short beds, The diesel tows more than the 5.3 but not as much as the 6.2. And the 6.2 just has waaaay more get-up and passing power than any other option. Even when towing. And in my area, we have about 15 foot merge lanes to get on the highway, and either towing or not, being able to get up to highway speed quickly really matters. My 6.2 pulls a 32’ travel trailer, and my 7x16 enclosed work trailer like they aren’t even there. We’ll almost, you can feel the difference, but it was nowhere near as bad as the other options. And yes I know, as my dealer let me pull my 7k lb work trailer with all 3 engine options before I bought anything.
Please don't forget this truck has a column shifter as opposed to a knob or buttons. The bed lining is great quality, too. Also, I might be on an island by myself with this, but I found the seats to be really comfortable.
Hey James, it’s funny you mention those things. I have never had a column shifter that failed. I have had shift levers lock up and fail though. I don’t mind a console shifter (I think the next refresh has that) but I did not like the shift dial on the Ram or the push buttons on the Tahoe. Call me old school I guess. The AT4 bed liner is superior to Line X or Rhino (in my opinion) and yes the seats are pretty good, but there are better ones in some trucks.
I was only looking at the Sierra 1500 Elevation a week ago. I saw this video and now I am about to pick up my AT4 in white with tech package this Saturday. And these vehicles are now in very low stock right now and need to get mine 200kms away from Winnipeg. I must admit I would copy some of your customizations. Indeed those are nice! Thank you for the informative video keep it up neighbor from Winnipeg in the province of Friendly Manitoba!
Great video. Your truck look’s fantastic. My last Chevrolet truck was a 1969 with a 250 inline 6. So I have been eye balling the new GMC line. Thanks for your review.
I like my 2020 AT4 6.2L. 20's aren't bad for noise but I'm not a big fan of the tread pattern. I like what you did with your wheels. I also changed my antenna. I feel like I got lucky on my 2020. I took advantage of huge incentives and GM employee pricing. I have a big decision coming fall of 2023. I reserved a Hummer EV SUV Edition1.
Great video. Thanks. I love my '21 AT4. I don't tow anything so went for the 5.3. Ended up getting the rocker arms replaced on both sides. Warranty, but still a hassle. I'm having trouble finding the illuminated GMC front emblem. Thanks again
I like these all weather floor mats… They also have snap in carpets depending on the season… So the rubber mats should be named all season floor mats, gotcha! 👍
Great video. I ordered my AT4 with a standard box on March 22nd and picked it up from the dealer on May 22nd. The dealer did not mark it up at all. Some of the cash allowances changed a bit from when I ordered it to when I picked it up, but for the most part I knew what it was going to cost the day I ordered it. I feel very fortunate that it arrived so quick and that I got a fair deal. I agree with much of what you said about the truck. The biggest difference for me is I that I like the chrome. I actually wish it had a little more to break up the monotony of the front end. My first mod was installing a Range Pulsar LT to get rid of the DFM and Auto Start/ Stop. My next planned mods are Amp Research Power Steps, a Borla exhaust, a S&B CAI, and a tonneau cover (although I haven't decided which exact one yet).
i just recently got my 2021 at4 which is the same as yours, only difference is i got 20 inch wheels! couldnt agree more with this video. all the pros and cons. So happy i was able to get one at MRSP!
Solid review of the pick up. In the market now and no kidding they are hard to find. Like what you did with the grill and and front emblem! Awesome looking rig.
As a fellow Canadian and owner of AT4 I love my truck I opted for the Carbon Pro and love other than that and colour our trucks are the same and I really agree with you on the heads up display it’s awesome
You made me want to look into spacers now. And I may just copy you with the dip and spray to match. I don’t mind the extra color it comes with but nice to see it matched up as well. Thanks!
Nice review! I feel about the same! I have a console safe that makes storage a little more organized but not much! I also hate auto shut off. Hated the grill but after mods love it!
Nice truck.... I was going to try and get an '21 AT4 but decided to wait to see what the '22's updated front/rear fascia and new interiors are going to look like.... GM dropped the curtain on the Silverado the other day and the interior is definitely a nice step up from the '19-'21 models.... seeing that the Sierra and Silverado are essentially the same interiors I'm glad I waited.... my '18 Silverado is running just fine so I can wait for it :D
I really tried to wait it out too, but I need a truck to do some things in my life. The way I see it, inventory for the next year or so will be constrained so if I want to trade up, I will be in a reasonable position! Then I would have another AT4 to customize 😂
The last like was a perfect. I just spent weeks trying to find the exact one I wanted. I just purchased the AT4 Black Widow Edition. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Purchased from a dealer over 400 miles away.
Nice Truck . Get a Pulsar Lt controller , and a BORLA cat back exhaust and fell the rip night and day difference . I have same set up except I went with the ROTO FAB intake well worth the money no more pushing auto stop off and no more DFM + better throttle response . Only increase my mpg by 1 mpg
My Borla exhaust has been on backorder since March 27th. I can’t find stock anywhere from a Canadian supplier on the Pulsar LT either. Welcome to Canada 🇨🇦
That truck is beautiful..I had a 2021 trail boss but kept bring down after 3rd time in shop I traded it in for a 2019 gmc serria.so far I love it but looking forward to seeing the 2022 gmc..
Got one on its way from manufacturer, also in 6.2. Was looking for a blue one but as you mentioned very hard to find. So I got onyx black. I love what you did to the grill. Will have to find someone that can do that for me.
I just bought my first GMC Sierra yesterday. Anyways, its a 2022 AT4 Carbon Pro. I absolutely love the truck as it is more refined then any F150 or Super Duty I've owened in the last 28 years. It's not nearly as capable as the F150 in terms of towing and payload but the ride is way better IMO. My last truck was a 2021 F250 Tremor with the 7.3 and buying gas was becoming painful as I had to fill up twice a week most times. I just wish I had known that a newer version of the AT4 was coming out in a few months.
Don We could be great neighbors. I keep adding chrome ornaments on my white Silverado. I like it to be as quiet as possible. Don’t really need any other rims . The ones that came with the truck are fine. Yes there chrome. I painted the letter on the sidewalls So they look like the old school raised white letters. ( your right I would consider white walls if I could find them. ) put in a bed rug in and a ladder for the tailgate I’m old.And one of those bed extensions that flips just for a little extra bed space when needed. It’s never been in 4WD. I really don’t need it. I got buy for many a winter In rear wheel drive pickups and cars. Oh yeah I almost forgot. I put in a chrome dress up kit for the dashboard and glove box doors. Did you have to talk the wife into this for her Cadillac or try to explain it to her. When she saw it?😂 See ya friend.
Auto stop/start biggest PITA ever. Be sure to put an oil catch can on your direct injection engine. I can't believe the stuff the can catches on my 2017 Silverado 5.3. I also agree that all white vehicles should only come with black wheels. I had them powder-coated on my former white Mustang for about $100 apiece.
If this had a 12”+ screen like the Fords and Dodges, I’d go buy it right now. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado they haven’t done anything to the size of the screen since. Really hoping GMC and Chevy step their interior game up so I can upgrade
For the 2023 model I think they will have something improved. In the meantime and for the ones on the market, I think this company will make a giant screen retrofit : www.linkswellinc.com
@@Donslife That's what I have on my Tundra. Love the Ridge Grapplers. Good traction in the rain and snow and super quiet on the highway. The only problem I have with mine is that the 35X12.50 only come in a 12 ply. Little stiff for a 1/2 ton truck but not a deal breaker.
I've had those tires before too and they were too noisy the original Goodyear MTR tires that they replaced or discontinued were the best ones.. I wish they would re-continue those tires cuz they were good.
I just got my AT4 about six weeks ago. Great truck, but GM did drop the ball in a few places. The fog lamps have be turned on each time you start to drive at night. Make it default to what you chose. It’s not even safe to use the windshield washer. You have to turn loose of the wheel and contort to an odd angle to push that button. That’s just plain stupid. The outside temp is hidden when using CarPlay. Put it in the center like you did on the Yukon. You take a great vehicle and do these little stupid things. You make some good points on your likes and dislikes. Mine came without the auto start/stop. It was actually a $500.00 option for this year and fortunately mine was ordered without. Even with the dislikes, it’s still an awesome truck. Rides great, carries/pulls a great load with ease. Economy for a truck this size is really good. And, it’s the best looking truck on the road today.
Another thing that’s really bad. If you have a trailer hitch in the receiver when you lower the tailgate, and you use the step feature, you’re going to damage the tail gate. Be sure to remove the hitch before you lower the step.
I totally love ❤️ this review. Wish we could have gotten the heads-up display. Love the antenna. I enjoy sewing, so the whole buttons issue was so cute. Maybe GMC saw this video cause they now include a tray in that center console in the 2023's. We ordered the 6.2, and we are looking forward to that extra 🐎 horsepower. The blackout look is such a nice touch. Our side step has chrome with the combined black rubber. Wonder if that Hyper dip would work 🤔. Great video. ✌️out.
The color of the grill looks better on other colors but it’s a darkened chrome. I don’t know what they call it exactly but that’s what it is. It’s a hell of a lot better than chrome which I can’t stand unless it’s on classic car metal parts. Chrome plastic just looks dumb. Everyone changes except for few that think they need to add it and it looks cheap.
Man I’m getting ready to get a 22 GMC Sierra candy apple red they stopped putting on that color and they stopped putting the 6.2 v8 in it I’m so happy I’m getting one a dime in dozen
Thanks so much for this video you’ve definitely helped me make a solid decision, I was conflicted with this one vs a ram. My husband will be happy to know I sided with you both ❤️🔥 Also I appreciate the humor/ personality you’ve added in this review you made me laugh all while actually enjoying your opinions and tips. I’ll go check out some of your other vids! Have a great weekend and keep up the awesome work helping us out with your content.
Solid video and truck! Got my 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (6.2L, loaded) back in late November before the chip shortage. Most of the mods you did are awesome. The stock wheels def are tucked in too much. I am not a fan of spacers, but curious if these will wear out suspension components? The tires (18" Goodyear Duratracs) that came with my truck were the FIRST thing to go...went with a taller Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 (Load E rated). Night/day difference in sound, comfort, and wet/snow traction, and load rating. Also replaced the Rancho rear shocks with Bilstein 5100. Seriously improved ride/control...no more soft waggy jelly butt feel back there.
Nice! My next wheels will have the correct offset to avoid spacers completely. I feel these are minimal enough to not cause issues since I am not using it as a full time off road vehicle. Also I haven’t put a level kit to mess with any of the geometry. I will have to look at a shock upgrade perhaps 🤔
@@Donslife -- Make sure to check out Bilstein 5100 front adjustable struts. Not only get the truck level, but they are excellent. I had them on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ 4x4...LOVED THEM. I just haven't pulled the trigger to buy them for my 2021 (yet). When I swapped out the rear Ranchos with Bilsteins...instantly felt the difference. And get this, the front feels wonky now. Soft. Not horrible...but, just a bit too much jounce for my liking. Hope this helps
Love the review. I went through every link you have listed. You don't have the link for the Lighted Emblem on the grill. I love the hood light and the lights for the tailgate step. I'm probably going to order both.
Thanks for checking it out. 404parts.com for the emblem. Not everything will fit in the RU-vid details; Here is my main link document (updated periodically) : linktr.ee/donslife
Beautiful truck. I was torn between a 2021 AT4 and a 2021 Laramie Night Edition. I ended up with the Laramie Night Edition because there's 5 more inches of room in the back along with reclining heated seats, it has a 19 speaker Harman/Kardon premium sound system, 12" Uconnect infotainment, the standard engine is 395 HP, 411 lb ft of torque (plus 130 more with the e-torque), it has an active air dam and active grille shutters, and I can get up to 25 MPG. The one thing GMC had that I couldn't get was the cool tailgate. Plus the Night Editions have solid black rims and a solid black grille.
@Donslife another great vid. I got the same organizer for my console. I also am a bit disappointed in the color choices with the grille/fog light surrounds. But I think my biggest interior complaint is (in my opinion) the extremely undersized steering wheel that does not tilt up high enough.
Great video. Just picked up mine this week - ironically some the stuff you dislike (grill color and wheels) were big selling points for me coming from a mostly monochrome set-up on my last truck. Sadly I got the 5.3 which is what I could find around me, but it was a solid engine in my Silverado so I am not too disappointed. Subscribed to see what else you might do to it!
Lots of aftermarket trays/dividers for the console.. nice truck 👌 I also used the points GM gave me for buying the truck and got the light up grill emblem for free
Carpeted floor mats- I get rubber mats, put them in, and never even remove carpeted mats from the box/bag they come in. Auto start/stop- manufacturers claimed MPG/emissions account for use of this feature, so it’s defaulted to on.
Well a plus to the pandemic for once 😂 I just bought a AT4 and apparently because of the chip shortage they couldn’t equip the truck with auto stop start and I’m so happy for it.
Great review Don thank you. Wife just gave me the green light on truck shopping. Being a short guy the multi pro tailgate is a must. Your truck is beaut. Did I also see a moonroof in there?
Good News Jim! You did see a moon roof. I am 6’1” and use the multi pro tailgate almost every time. Reaching into the bed is way easier too if you don’t fold out the last step
Don i have ronin antenna installed on my Ram. Looks good as I color red the tip. This antenna have a bad coverage when u go out of city or under bridge. Rest I like ur video. Peace and be safe
The tray organizer you can get on Amazon, for you buttons for like $20.00. Grill should definitely be color matched!!! Rims/tires just get new ones, not from the dealer and definitely Nitto tires. The last Nitto tires I got are absolutely great will definitely buy again and again.
Yes that’s where I got the tray. Buttons aren’t really my thing, it was a silly joke. But having a tray is no joke! I am likely getting Nittos next as well. Going to use these for a bit longer though.
To me, any off-road package/theme truck should offer 17 and 18" wheels. I own a Toyota Tundra, surprise it's in my account name, but I also want a diesel and I think the GMC Sierra AT4 is what I'm looking for.
