With its Phoenix Yellow paint, weight reduction, Cup 2 tires, and retuned steering and suspension, is the FK8 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition the best driving FWD of all time? zygrene
I love Honda. Owned a BB6, currently have an ES2 as a commuter, looking for a DC5 as a fun, nostalgic, weekend project. It's an awesome, capable drive, but man, I'll never get over that engine sound and those looks. I generally agree that turbo>VTEC (I have an RS3 on order), but IMO the soul of a Honda is high revving, screaming VTEC. Times are changing, that's for sure! Great video as always, Fenton! 😁👍
I've own a type R and couple weeks ago rented a 2022 GR86 on Turo and loved it. I really want to get one...so I started watching your channel. Love to see that you enjoy the FK8 platform as well.
@@retrograde11 It's kind of weird. But sometimes the Type R feels a little too good? Shifting is smooth. Driving in traffic is practically painless in traffic. Power is great. Comfortable ride(after replacing the stock 20s to 18s). It's basically the perfect daily driver for me. But when I drove a GR86 it made me miss the things that I love about driving. Much more raw feedback when shifting gears(if you shift wrong the car will jerk). And the handling of a RWD car is just simply different. Overall the Type R is absolutely the "better car" but I think the GR86/BRZ is more fun.
Loved these type of cars (FWD) when i was in my twenties but now a days cant look past the fact that RWD is such a better more entertaining car to drive..
The only time rwd is more entertaining is when you drift. Try doing that on public roads and you're looking at an impound and lots of tickets in most states. Which wheels move the car rarely matter anymore even on the track. Suspension tuning and chassis makes way more of a difference.
Awesome review! Great advice on just getting a regular Type R and doing your own mods. I have some suspension and brake mods, FBO and upgraded turbo and the car has so much more to offer than a limited edition CTR.
This car reminds me of jewelry. Personally I’d never wear a big ass chain but on someone else I can appreciate the craftsmanship and how cool it looks.
Best FWD? This shifter is reportedly one of the current best and Honda did some clever engineering to reduce FWD torque steer. Although, one could argue the Integra Type R with it's high revving N/A engine, light weight chassis and superior double wishbone suspension, seems like a compelling contender to me. My RSX would be in the mix too if it weren't for it's garbage steering and suspension. Some swear by the GTI, Veloster N, Focus, and Fiesta. Sounds like a Zygrene FWD comparo vid is needed 👍
Type R feels more serious and focused on speed whereas the BRZ provides more driver engagement and fun. The difference is - you can make the BRZ feel more serious with mods, whereas modding the Type R will probably just increase its performance without necessarily changing its no-nonsense personality.
@@Zygrene honestly this reminds me of when I had my DC2R. I ultimately found the NB more fun to drive - mostly because the Integra felt so serious whereas Miatas are all sillyness and laughter
I had a 2014 civic si Coupe. Now driving a 2013 Acura TSX A spec. Both had the 2.4l VTEC. Amazing engine. Looking for ward to buying a 2021 civic type r when they come down in price to 25k
I believe that the throttle mapping for Sport and +R are the same. IIRC, someone looked at the modes via Hondata and confirmed this. At least for the stock tune
The best FWD car ever but also the worst drivetrain type ever. It's like being the best MLS team ever but compare MLS to European football(Soccer) leagues.
True, Porsche rev match is much sharper. The system in the Type R works fine in normal driving but has trouble keeping up when downshifting aggressively at higher rpm.
Had a 2021 sold it. Cars so over hyped. Hondas first over powered car. Boo. Bought another 8th gen civic si to daily and low it so much more. Real Honda.
I owned a Mk6 GTI stick, and had also test driven an EP3 Civic (I think... gen w/that funky hvac shifter lol). Despite being older, it had slightly more realistic road feel vs the GTI's electronically-weighted steering feel imho. But admitted, current gen GTI/Golf R are peak hatch performers. Can't speak on feel til I drive them and CTR.
