Bought this 14 months ago . Living in Sydney . Great car , couldn’t be more pleased . Using it with kids , back seat is spacious as it comes , 90 degree opening doors are great , beautiful to drive and had absolutely no issues with it so far . 8.7L/100km is what I’m getting using 95 . Would highly recommend.

We got the 2nd generation brand new in 2000 for $40k, 250,000km later we traded for the 4th gen. Both never missed a beat, nothing ever broke, unbeatable interior room and function, both performed flawlessly for their build purpose.

My 2103 model had its gearbox replaced due to noisy bearings. The replacement box after 70K is now also noisy, the exact same problem. Very disappointed with ours.

Recently purchased the 2021 VTi, upgrading from a 2017 ASX to accommodate a growing family. Being tall space was incredibly important to us particularly with the need to have child seats. The RAV4 was the only other car that came close to ticking our boxes in terms of space and features but my wife preferred the open-ness of the driver cabin space as the centre console was lower and allowed more knee room. We've found the top tether points to be a little bothersome and would have preferred them to be on the rear of the seat as it does impact our rear view - but nothing you don't eventually get use to. There is definitely some customisation ability that we have yet to explore ourselves and would enjoy seeing another infotainment deep-dive! Great review as always Paul, really respect your attention to detail, and pleased that you spoke fairly positive about the CRV which reassures us we made the right choice! Cheers mate, and thanks for personally responding to my email a couple months ago when I asked about the CRV!

I bought a LX AWD top of the range last Monday. I did test drive Subaru Outback and RAV4 as well. Subaru roof hit on my head and it was little heavy steering and second row middle seat is not good at all, having three kids 2x14 yrs and one 20yrs to fit in the second row. RAV4 too light and felt like floating on the road and waiting time. I am not an off roader but wanted to have more grip on the road so went for AWD. Seats in this CRV are very hard, better to test drive the badge you intend to buy but it is not possible all the time and that’s what exactly happened to me. Except for the seat car drives well, and will add some comments after more driving. My decision was supported by a value for money assessment with scoring for the features I was after.

@Paul Maric, Another terrific car review. One suggestion would be to review the benefits of a car’s AWD system, in the rain / snow / dirt roads, as opportunities present. Eg. It’s not always raining when you have a car to review. I didn’t realise how confidence-inspiring AWD was in the rain until I bought a Subaru Liberty, and I miss not having that feature in my current car.

I have a 2013 CRV Vti-L i can see they kept a lot of things the same such as the rear view mirror( for rear seats), the econ button the side mirror look the same. But they got rid of the HID xenon lights. One cool feature is you can use the remote control to open and close all windows including sun roof without the engine on. It is quite useful in a hot summer before entering the car and when you forgot to shut the window. All in all it is a good vehicle.

with respect to infotainment/screen I would firstly be interested to know: - what is the screen visibility like? - what is the screen size? - is it bright and clear? Resolution? - does it work in bright sun? - does it have a night/dark mode? - does the location of the screen work for driver and passenger? any unwanted reflections? -what is the quality of the reversing camera like (especially in low light/dark conditions)? Is it slow/laggy? Brief coverage of connection options. BT, wifi or wired device connection, apple/android, aux, voice command etc? I think you already cover most of this which tells me you’re doing a decent job. I might be interested to know in detail about infotainment but only once I had a shortlist or was pretty sure which way I was going then I’d look closer and can probably find that info. It is always nice to get a somewhat independent and comparative view of these.

I like the level of detail you go through with the infotainment system. It's particularly useful when you compare it with other brands given that you have a lot of experience. It's a deal-breaker for me when the system is bad. I still reckon you're the best reviewer there is with your presentation style, amount of details you present, that you do a walk around to show exterior design details and consistency across reviews so it makes it easier to compare different models. Cheers! 🍻👏 EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention that you show imperial measures so I don't have to do conversions when comparing to reviews in the US. 👌 And no, not considering Honda at all since they pulled out of Australia. It tells me that they're not selling enough which means it will be hard flogging it off when it's time to upgrade so I've ordered the RAV4 Hybrid instead and will have to put up with the 6-month wait.

For this segment, I believe the Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V are more spacious and comfortable overall. At the end I bought the 2021 Honda CR-V AWD along with a better deal in the monthly payments. It runs great, good gas mileage, and excellent in any type of weather. I'm happy with my CR-V.

Firstly, loving your reviews. Incredibly informative as I'm deciding what to test drive. CR-V reviews typically say how great the storage is compared to competitors. Is the maximum boot space (1084L) correct? It's much much less than Karoq (1630L) and Koleos (1690L) is stated in your reviews for those vehicles. Thanks!
@perthling

Found my answer. 1084L is load to window. Load to roof is 1717L. So it is indeed bigger than the others.

I really liked my 2019 CRV here in Northern Europe it had a 1.5t with a 6 speed manual, just a very undemanding and economical car, well built and very capable, 2000kg towing limit was generous and it towed our 1300kg caravan with no dramas . I changed it for the Hybrid model this year with the CVT transmission as Honda Europe discontinued the 1.5 here, I don't really like it as much the economy is pretty much the same as the 1.5 T the Hybrid is slower too and the tow rating dropped to 1500kg, it is a smoother engine though the 1.5 had a nice throaty growl that is missing on the 2.0 Hybrid.

Hi Paul, I have CRV VTI-L7 and it has factory fitted towbar which touches and scraps the ground when entering and exiting driveway even with utmost care. Be mindful if you have 7 average adults seated and slight luggage .. the clearance goes really low with soft suspension and get stuck in driveways... Forget about towing as it already struggles with 7 person. Would you have any advise on how i can raise this and get more CRV owners talk about this issue if they are facing. Appreciate your advice. Same given how cheap and effective LED lights are to night driving safety, fitting halogens to a $35k to $40k+ car is criminal. Sometimes safety comes from the simplest things, before we get into radars and sensors.

I recently bought a 2016 CRV VTI-L and I chose this one over a 2019 model simply because of the engine. I test drove both of these cars at the same time and I honestly didn't like the 1.5L turbo. You really had to put your foot into it to make it do anything where as the 2.4L just glided along effortlessly. Watching your speed test the 1.5L turbo was screaming it's nuts off at over 6000 RPM to reach 100 Km/h. My 2.4L will reach the same speed just as quick without going over 3500 RPM. Fair enough the newer CRV might be a much nicer looking car but in my own honest opinion I think Honda ruined the CRV with the 1.5L turbo. You only have to look at the 2nd hand market to see how many 100's of 1.5L turbo CRV's are for sale compared to 2013-2016 models with the 2.4L engine to see what the general feeling is about the new 1.5L engine. If honda had put the 2.4L engine in its latest models then it would have been a much better car than it is now.

I have the previous model & looking to upgrade & can’t find a better SUV in the mid price point. Toyota, Subaru & the Koreans strip so many features out of their mid & low range cars they seem like 10 year old technology. Yeh may not have the biggest screen or most powerful engine but just does everything well unlike RAV4 that is adequate

Good review Paul. I had a 2018 CRV but sold it after 1 year. Car was spacious and comfortable but lacking safety features (for FY18 model) and acceleration off the line was lacking sometimes with the cvt that was dangerous in sticky situations. Also the screen needed replacing after 2 months and the gear knob broke after 6 months (Honda then did a recall because of this). Infotainment is poor as well compared to others out there (was ok at first but became annoying after a few months). Lastly car needed oil changes every 6 months even though it was 12 month servicing. Not good enough Honda.

Honda let me drive this for a week (2021 model), courtesy car thang, and whilst I love the interior and its performance, the one thing I hated, going from a Civic, is that the car rocks from side to side when hitting minor bumps on the road. I guess thats because the center of gravit is higher. But it was almost making me sea sick. Awesome review - thank you. I just can't believe the lack of fuel economy with such a small engine. I would have thought it would get around 6ltrs per 100km. The fuel economy that you got (10ltrs per 100km) is exactly the same as my V6, 4ltr Ford Territory (and my car is 7 years old now). This is a deal breaker for me as there are much more fuel efficient motors that are larger capacity. So strange...

My 2019 AWD CRV we drive everywhere in Eco mode and only fuel with 91, and we average 6.9L/100km, mix of highway and around town. Recently we did a family roadtrip to Adelaide and back from Brisbane and the car was probably overloaded, and had a 400L large roof pod on the roof bars, I had the cruise control set to 118km/h most of the way (all the 110 zones) and for the trip we averaged 7.9L/100km. Here in Australia we have to pay more for everything. Unofficially we call it the Australia tax. This car is actually pretty reasonable, if you really want to see artificial price inflation look at the "dual cab ute" segment of the market. Those are usually starting at over $60,000 and even then you get a pretty stripped down vehicle with few luxuries.

The public hospital system is pretty awful, I once had to pay out of pocket for a surgery that was impacting my quality of life. Hence I pay private health insurance in case of emergency. I just won’t take the risk anymore now should anyone.

@@jeeves6490 Living wage? Mate at a time like this many lost their businesses. I lost mine this year and I’m digging into my savings. To top it off both my parents passed away. Things are far from rosy where I’m sitting.

@@trainingtheworld5093 Could be in the States, or Europe. Can't afford healthcare, raised 4 kids on one wage and then they brought in the age loading, pricing it sky high at a time where my wife I would be willing to pay for it. Hope things improve for you soon mate, tomorrow is another day.

Top tether points seem very awkward. Why couldn't they just put it on the back of the seat like every other manufacturer? These will eat into the rear volume

Prefer a more detailed infotainment review as it is an important aspect of almost every car nowadays.
