Test drive the new 2021 Mercedes-Benz 560 s class and you will definitely forget about the new lexus LS 500 the only thing Lexus have over the Germans is reliability and that's not a problem for rich people so lexus need to do a better job
The interior of this vehicle is highly underrated. People call it dated and cheap but have never truly sat in one. The organic lines and super soft material used is insane.
People don't realize how Lexus pays attention to every detail to make sure that they have a fine balance between quality and Luxury. They may not seem as glamorous but if you compare any older Lexus to any other German car, these cars will almost always age better and seem more futuristic. There's a reason these things sell for less off the lot and cost more used. You never truly realize how much better a Lexus is until you've owned one compared to a german car. It's nice to know that your car will be in your driveway 99% of the time and will always start no matter how old or used. There is a piece of mind you get with a Lexus that you just don't get with any other true Luxury brand.
And the best part of it is it’ll still look like that 10 years from now! Lol when 7 series are rattling and falling apart this LS will still look and feel the same 👍
@@alltheway99 Have you sat and drove in one? Lol. That’s the first negative comment I’ve ever heard about the interior quality and design of this vehicle.
@@JJS432 I sat in the LS, Test driven pretty much all others. Just imagine. I am thinking about changing my car and I was considering Lexus GS or ES. I might keep buying a BMW because of how much more I like the interior, despite the bad reliability. That much difference I see between the two. Plus, the lower price of the 5 series compared to an ES will cover repairs for 5+years.
The Mark Levinson sound system is just perfect, and it really confused me about whether I'm listening to music that is played as a background sound of a video or played by myself.
Thanks for reviewing this particular version of the LS....was curious about it. Car companies have to knock off the pumped in sound. Either offer a V8 with all of its great sounds or go with the blown 6 and have it sound less good. Better yet, put the time into making it sound good. When did anyone ask for sound effects in their cars?
I own last year's LS500 and I don't see the point in trash talking the infotainment. After a week of using it becomes super easy. Most of you journalist only use it for one or two times without getting used to it and then you trash talk it. I think it's quite easy.
I appreciate the input and totally get it! It does get better with time. The problem is I also drive everything else and can’t help but compare it to other offerings. Still, after using different iterations of the touchpad and mouse in dozens of Lexus products since 2011, it irks me how clumsy the system is. I’m harsh on this because I hold Toyota/Lexus to a higher standard. I think they need to do a better job with this stuff and carefully think about minimizing distraction and inputs.
I think it's a valid criticism especially given the target buyer of this vehicle. While it may be easier to use after a few weeks it could potentially turn away a new buyer who hops in for a test drive. If other companies can design an infotainment system that people can pick up after 15 minutes of seat time Lexus can too.
Would take this over any German luxury car any day, can live with worse 360 cam, and use CarPlay anyway, but the car would just work when i need it. After 3 years my "new" BMW 540i is eating 3-4L of engine Oil every 15k km (ODO ~60k km). So I either sell it now, or gonna have huuuge maintanance cost in near future. Never again...
Without the 5.0 V8 there is no point to even consider this stone age grandpa camry Genesis on the other hand is so much more modern and classy more tech, more logical user friendly tech. Which makes much more sense when u want a true luxurious experience while without breaking down every other week (Germans/ Brits etc)
@@pyh912 Are you mad, because you got asked a simple question? You shouldn't have made a comment if you were going get triggered like a kid over basic questions. Anyways its not that serious, I forgot adults on here act like kids. Have a good one!
Pre-refresh model (2018-2020) looks far more sophisticated than this model. Dash center screen does not flow at all with the interior, unlike the pre-refresh model. New headlights are a clear cost-cut measure, as these are easier to manufacture and integrate. Old headlights really made the front end stand out. Also, no excuse for this one to not offer the 471hp 5.0L V8 from the LC500 as an option, when the prior LS460 weighed about the same and featured a 386hp 4.6L V8. Embarrassing that the Genesis G90 still offers a potent V8 and this doesn't. Top executives at Toyota making all the bad decisions lately. Sad.
Yikes! Even the G90 has better executed tech than this does. At this end of the full-size luxury end segment, G90 would be my choice honestly. Though if were to get an LS, I’d skip the F-Sport BS. Doesn’t really add much to a car like this, and I like the material choices in the luxury trims better.
I understand the dislike for the infotainment if its hard to figure out. But I have to ask, do people really fumble with the radio and climate controls every time they get in their car????????????????????????????????? I'm a "set it and forget it" type of user, I rarely feel the need to adjust my seat position, climate, or change the radio station much ONCE INITALLY SETUP. All the "necessity" functions have physical buttons anyway, climate, volume, drive mode, etc.
The older LS vehicles (to me) were always known for their buttery smooth engine and transmission. Super quiet and super comfy. I have an old 1998 and I can't tell the engine is on when its idling at a stoplight unless I look at the tach. Has the new ones lost some of that buttery smoothless to get some more performance and handling out of it?
Absolutely love this car hands down. The performance and smoothness is flawless. It handles well and will still be of value years to come. Great Video my friend!
One thing EVERY reviewer lacks to understand is the Concierge setting.... enabling Concierge allows the temperature setting to control both the HVAC and seats by just using the temperature zone. If you’re diving into the settings on the screen, you’re doing it all wrong. The rest is done by voice.
That interior design is just not doing it for me. It is way too busy, and those inserts on the seats make it look cheap. Its like they tried to take the corolla and give it a premium look. The door design is also pretty bad. Those door handles are horribly integrated, and it feels as if there is zero continuity in the cabin. Plus the way they tacked on that infotainment is reminiscent of the sonata, but they made it look worse. As you mentioned the infotainment is still very hard to use. I would take a new G80 over this and its not even in the same class of car. Oh yea, what is with the prius style shifter too?
yeah it would be nice if lexus would get with times... unfortunately that will probably not happen, they make too much money selling cheap crap like avensis or corolla, so they probably just don't care much
"They're", not "there". Working at Lexus by changing oil and vacuuming cars is different than designing cars. (For the record, they're not "behind on tech"; every feature you could possibly want is standard or available).
yup, 6 minutes in and i've seen enough i can eliminate it from my list of next potential vehicle purchases. what a shame, the mercedes S class also took a step backwards...
You can say Porsche is best represented by its 911. BMW's poster child is the successful 3 series. Honda for its Civic. Lexus may sell far more RX & NX, but the LS has always been the core of what the brand defines. Beautiful craftsmanship, impeccable build quality, gorgeous materials and smooth effortless power.
@Jose Carranza Polio Do you not know English? Acura's infotainment and interiors are a maze of buttons, switches, and cheap materials that are not intuitive.
I’ll stick with my 2018, i don’t know why they bothered the headlights. The infotainment screen looks like an aftermarket add on and It really disrupted the flow of the dashboard.
No wood wheel. No tach. Cheaper headlight housing. What more is cut? Will Lexus LS EVER have top-shelf electronics on-board? STILL trying to decide if I should hand on to my one-owner 17 LS 460L, air suspension, last V8, poor accel off the line until high end. endless complaints about 90s era mouse, on and on. Now with sedan sales tanking should see discounts but so far no; didn't seem to make many and most of the colors are... my wife said "dirty diaper." Thanks for the review, we really value the LS ones. Bob in Vero.
Lexus can't keep relying on their "reliability" to sell cars. A 3.5L V6 for 76K? Are you kidding me? And all the Lexus fanboys will say "It will last you 20 years". Who would ever want to drive the same car for 20 years? Especially a same old V6 for that long? Their engines are hilariously underpowered, Lexus lacks curb appeal, lacks a good infotainment system, and is no where near Mercedes in terms of ride comfort and quiet. Why would anyone who has 76K buy this car when there are far better options from Germans?
Pray this prayer from the bottom of your heart out loud to be saved Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I repent of my sins. I will worship you all the days of my life.I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior.I receive it and Believe it in Jesus Powerful Name, AMEN❗️.
It's remarkable how Lexus always seems to have some penalty for having all-wheel drive in their sedans/coupes. In the IS and the RC, it's the transmission. In the LS, it's the ride quality.
@Jose Carranza Polio I've driven an ES 350 and sat in an LS. The LS is much, much nicer in terms of visuals and materials. But I will say the most recent ES is by far better than the last generation. It's nice to drive and has a generally rich-looking interior.
It’s nice that they went touchscreen, but it looked a lot better with the screen integrated into the dash, it looks like an aftermarket just stuck on now, plus the headlights looked better before.
its surprising to me that a company like Lexus which had an amazing reputation for ergonomics and usability has struggled so hard with tech interface. They're really far behind the competition with that stuff and in general i think they sell cars based on reputation and not merit.
Can't agree with you more. It made that car stand out and look very distinctive. To me the new 2021 headlights and whole front facsia look really similar to my ls460 which is a 2013.
They ruined the dashboard design with the new touchscreen imo. I also agree with the headlights looking worse than the old design, it just looks like a longer IS now.
