2021 MG ZS Exclusive Walkaround - In-Depth Static Review
Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another walkaround. This time around it's the face-lifted MG ZS, which has a tweaked interior, tweaked interior and some new features. It has lost a trim level, though, as the 'Explore' - the base model - has been axed to to low popularity.
That means the 'Excite' trim level makes up the new base model, with the 'Exclusive' trim level remaining as the range-topper. It's the Exclusive that features in this video, which has a starting price of £18,295 (Excite starts from £15,995). Standard features include 17" alloys, LED lights, keyless entry, leather style seats, 10.1" touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, navigation, smartphone connectivity, rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera and digital display.
The ZS can either be powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is a cutting edge as a butterchurn, or a 1.0 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. I've got the latter in this car, which offers 111hp and 160Nm of torque. 0-60 is done in 12.1 seconds, and the top speed is 112mph. 39mpg can be achieved on a combined run and this engine emits 163g/km of CO2 emissions.

Like the nets either side of boot for storage and the cubby hole and usb charging sockets in the rear console.

Check the electric windows for movement, rocking back and forward. , you could do with taking the seat warmers out of design and spending the money on developing and securing them. Also reviewing should show these issues. Does MG even know the problem?.

8:08 Have you checked if there's a default volume setting in the "Setup" menu? If there isn't one, that's a terrible idea. Good video. I'd like to see a more in-depth walkthrough of the infotainment, though.

That's a good point, although I don't remember seeing that when I was going through the options. the next time I get an MG (might be quite some time) I'll try to do a review on the infotainment system. Thanks for watching pal.

@@CarObsession Given that infotainment system's lag, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an oversight aswell. Nice, thanks. I think that it's important to feature infotainment features and button presses (i.e. sound, feel, etc.) on car reviews, given that they're two things owners will put up with pretty much everyday. You should try the automatic wipers in the rain - you're more likely to crash and die than actually get to your destination. My 2000 Renault Clio had auto wipers that worked brilliantly. The MG's don't activate until the water is so badly accumulated you can't see through the screen (and that's on the most sensitive setting!!!) They are dangerous. I don't know how they managed to get the car through type approval with them.

7:10 Somebody's a fan of the Sega Saturn boot animation, I see. The original did suffer from a mediocre three star safety rating that the EV improved upon significantly in order to get five stars, so I hope this facelifted version got some of that tech. Some may have seen the EV as a great springboard into BEV ownership, and as such would be the preferred option over the ICE model.

Buying an MG supports the Communist Party of China. People that care about their own economy buy products from people/companies/brands that are designed and/or developed and/or researched in their own country or ally country. The people that work for those local companies, in free democracies, then buy other products developed in their own country or ally country and that keeps their families and friends in work and making money. Stupid people buy direct from Chinese brands and send every single penny out of their country and destroy their own economy and eventually their entire free society because they are cretins and/or greedy and/or want things they can't afford, and rather than wait and save. They are happy to screw over their entire economy in the pursuit of self-gratification, selfishness, and ego. Buying CCP owned brands and products fuels Chinese R&D and weakens free economies. Your children and your children's children will suffer as a result of your choices. This is not hyperbole, it is fact.

Do you not by this car I've had problems with it head gasket went at 14000 miles taking 2 months to fix it mg are poor.

I’ve bought one Last year 2021 . Check the windows. If you drop them a little . Clean the top of the window rock back and forwards . Apparently. Quote (acorn Crewe it’s a characteristic of the car , design fault , OH it is loose, they cannot be adjusted, they are all the same, it won’t fall out, if we replace the windows they will be the same, and more. ) The people who do these reviews could do with looking at the side windows .Please review this and show the WORLD Please

Any fault with all new cars , surely are rectifiable. You buy new not because you can afford , it’s for to safeguard any issues that come up for the duration of the GUARANTEE. My Neighbour has a Wolsey, must be 1950/1960 with wind up windows and they are not as sloppy as on my bought new 2021MG ZS EXCLUSIVE. Come on MG UK .ACORN.SAIC.Grensons Crewe, Cheshire. GET A GRIP OF THESE ISSUES THEY WILL NOT GO AWAY.

I have an ZS EV Exclusive - worst new car I've owned. It's being rejected and I get my new Kona Electric at the end of the year. It's been in the garage for over 10 weeks and it was new in December 2020. Those really annoying bongs were removed from the EV because everyone complained about it. Before this facelift you couldn't get MG Pilot on the ICE ZS, so I'm surprised they've not sorted the bongs out for this implementation. I have a 2009 Astra TwinTop convertible and it creaks less than my MG. It's a disgrace and the dealer and MG as company are tossers too.

@@CarObsession the sunroof creaks loudly and it's been "fixed" 3 times. I gave up in the end and it's still faulty. The dash rattle has been fixed twice and is still present, the a-pillar trims were both rattling so had to be replaced, the passenger door had to be stripped to fix a rattle, the steering wheel has play (a small knock) which is a known issue on the owners forum, but which MG deny exists. The climate controls are manual but they display through the touch screen which can take seconds to load when you press a button or adjust the heat etc, so you are having to constantly look away from the road waiting for it to finally load. The ONLY good thing I like (which the EV doesn't even have) is the fact it has a usb charger in the rearview mirror to power dash cams.

These are way too expensive for a car made in China. Thee price range for these should be between 13k and 16k for petrol versions.

Unfortunately, that's an unrealistic expectation. Nowadays you don't get much car for 13k. Yes, you have Dacia, but you'll have sacrifice some features. Thanks for watching 👍🏽.

Overpriced? The starting price of the ZS is around the same as a BASE model Nissan Juke, and the ZS offers more kit, a 7 year warranty and more space. Thanks for watching.

@@CarObsession that car is over priced as well tbh. I had a Duke as a hire car and it's the worst car is even driven! And that's comparing it to a Tata pickup and a Hyundai accent 1.5 auto that I bought for €140 in Cyprus. £20k is far to expensive for those cars they should be nearer £15k, but then all cars are overpriced now.
