This was a fantastic review. Unassuming. Professional. Great shots. I had a good positive feeling having seen the video. So you transmitted that positive energy to the viewers. Well done!
I once did 160 kmh here in Ontario about 10 years ago. If I did that today my car would be impounded for two weeks plus I would receive a $10,000 fine. Therefor I won't be doing that again. Nice review mate.
My Dream car is a Gt4 but Im getting a Spider cause there was no way i was getting an allocation for a gt4 at my dealer so i got one for the spyder took 1years and 2 month of waiting on the list but I mean its a no roof gt4 so gotta love it ❤
Thanks for the review, appreciated. OMG what is not to like about the 718 Spyder? The humps, manual, 4 liter engine. Best looking Porsche at the moment for sure. In the EU we can use the remote it rolls the windows dons a bit, opens the roof and the rear deck, so you dont have to go into the car.
Great review. This is a one of a kind driver’s car. There isn’t another car produced today like this set up, as far as I can tell. Mid-mount engine, naturally aspirated 4-liter boxer engine that can be mated with 6-spd manual gear box, 2-seater, open top, that you can get a carbon fiber bucket seats and carbon ceramic brakes. On top of that, this thing is gorgeous, more so in person than photos and videos. It drives sublimely, perfectly balanced between chassis and power, sonorous high-rev engine note, perfect driving position and ideally set up pedals & gear box. I’ve got mine in 2020 and haven’t regretted one single mile of its 8000 ODO miles. It is by far the best driving Porsche I’ve ever driven out in the canyons on a sunny Sunday morning. If you find one, get it. You will not regret it. I recommend the bucket seats. It really connects you to the car so much better when slinging the car around the bends. Unless you are an ex-large person, I can tell you that I often do 400+ miles in one day without any discomfort. I am 6-ft tall, 200lbs and I fit perfectly in the seat. I also spec’d carbon ceramic brakes on the car and they are amazing.
Waiting for my build slot to come up for my 718 Spyder (Chalk / Red Top / Red Interior / Black Wheels). I'm surviving off of awesome videos like this while I count the days :-P. Thank you!
I'm in love as well.. But my bankaccount cries hard when it sees the price of this car in my country, that's over 200k Euro.. So I settled for a base 718 Boxster.. Still a lot of fun, more practicle with the roof and *a lot* cheaper, "only" 100k Euro, so half the money.. I'm really jalous of people who can buy this car for just 110k USD..
if its not a powered roof its a massive pain, many times I've been caught in rain on a motorway, slowed to 30mph and then closed my top. This for me is not worth the weight savings!!
Great video! I commute in a Tesla MS but I feel alive and engaged driving my manual Spyder! Electric cars can never replicate that feeling! Don’t forget about resale value…. The car appreciates with time which is rare for a $100k car
Hi Brian, fantastic review. Very detailed along with superior video editing that showcases the vehicle from a variety of angles. A high quality production....👍
If you pause the video at 6:28 you can see on the left bolster the scratches from where you push yourself out of the seat with your left hand. I avoid doing that by placing both my feet out of the door, then standing up. But then again, I'm a bit pedantic about these things. ;) Great video. I'm trying to decide between the Spyder and Targa. Two very different cars.
@@rogerl7533 It's from the ring on a person's left hand. I have a Porsche 987 and there is no way those are caused by jeans. I had to be careful on my car as that's what almost scratched my bolster.
$110k for a fun precise roadster is great if your wealthy but if you’re not test drive a new MIATA manual. Fully loaded it’s about $30-35! It’s no Porsche but it’s just as much fun. Maybe even more fun since you’ll be happy and have lots more money in the bank.
@@EverydayReviews2022 - I used to have a Boxster -987.2 Base manual( 2012)- I’m currently daily driving a 2008 Miata PRHT- I absolutely love this car; picked it up two years ago and drives like new!
@@mpower1226 - That’s $130,000 US and I’m opinion that’s just way too much money for a small two seat sports car with a six cylinder engine. Yes it’s a fun to drive weekend toy but so is a new fully loaded Miata for 1/4 the price! I’ll spend my money on the Miata and laugh all the way to the bank. It’s only a toy not a daily driver. If I wanted a good daily I could pick up a Toyota or Honda easily or even a Volvo or great BMW for much less! However for a wealthy buyer who has lots of money to.burn its his.
dont know if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)
@Hugh MacIsaac Agreed. Still, having the ability shift your own gears is better than not. Could be Porsche did not want this to take away from the 911? I do have to say, I have a 2019 Honda Civic Type R and the shifter in that car is a master class of how to make a 6-speed manual regardless of price. The ratios are perfect and the feel is spot on.
I own a 981s, with a six-speed manual, Porsche Torque Vectoring, PASM, etc. All the performance goodies, and more. My full-electric roof goes down, or up, in 12 seconds. When the rain starts coming down hard, the time it takes to put up that manual roof would make me quickly hate the car with a passion. The Spyder has only two advantages over the 981s. First, the more powerful engine, and second, the Spyder editions tend to appreciate. However, neither those would be sufficient to overcome that monumentally stupid roof.
I have the Yellow 2014 Boxster PDK and i prefer it to the manual. Off the line with Sport Mode i can hold the pedal to the floor and the gears change at 8400 without letting up on the gas. You will get better 0-60 times with PDK. I can flip to manual at any time but i find i forget its on and if the music is too loud i redline to much.
Buddy,listen-up you got to be out of your mind after paying that amount of money ,That you can't press a Button. Like Joe Roti says,I got to zunk this.
Do you know if the Spyder logos on the side of the humps are on with normal adhesives? I'm wondering if those can be removed easily, like it would be debadging the rear of the car.
It is beautiful and that color is the bomb. The convertible top is messy to take down but so be it. The six cylinder boxer engine is what they need to go with and get rid of that lousy turbo four. Perfection.
If you could have only 1 car, is this a choice over the 911 (2013-2018 for a lot more)? If so I will wait to purchase the '21 as it looks to be worth the wait and a worthy contender over the 911 to me. Thank you for helping me with my choice. I did drive the 2017 911 and the manual seemed to have a long throw. I heard the 718 is easier to clutch and the blip helps me stay with the manual. ;-)
Drove my cousins 2018 base 911 with a 125k msrp and I liked my 2018 90k cayman S , A LOT more . I can only imagine the gt4/ spyder is much better than a base 911. To really get that 911 experience I think you gotta get at least an S or better but even then, it’s not mid engine , the cayman will still be better.
That low end scraping would be really annoying. Plus it’s plastic but Porsche doesn’t make cheap plastic parts! Expensive front plastic part which will look bad in no time?
I live in San Diego. Time to upgrade from my 1999 986! My only concern is the ride quality. Do you find it firm? I like the Spyder better than the GTS, but the GTS would like obviously have a softer ride. Thoughts?
We haven’t taken a long road trip , ie a week or 10 days , but yes you can drive this all day long with the bucket seats. I don’t know about the race seats
Love SD. 👍. That back road through the mountains to Palm Springs is amazing . I love the look of the Spyder but the GTS will be a better ride. The Spyder is firm but doable. Resale....I think the Spyder will be better. It’s a very tough choice.
I live in Orange County and don't find the ride in my GT4 to be too harsh at all. In fact, I usually have the dampers in sport mode since it's more stable in that mode. Love the ride.
If the main feature you look for in a car is how well it integrates with your phone then you are 100% correct, this is not your car...man our German cousins are clever
I don't even know what that is for. I have owned Porsches since 1989 and have 2 currently for weekends including a 911s cabriolet. I don't use any of the gadgets including my phone when pushing hard and sometimes I might turn on the Bose system.
