I’ve loved targa’s ever since I briefly owned a 964 version whilst working in Belgium But this style of car begs to have a retro colour like Shark Blue or Viper Green With the 4 litre naturally aspirated engine and a manual gear box option Now that would be Driving Heaven 🚙😇
I ordered a 911 targa 4s in December and finally being made this week (early June) and delivery set for mid-August. Thanks moto-man for helping with details. Went with aventurine green, brown top, ivory interior.
Another great review! If I had the coin, I would get one of these. You forgot to mention that you can get a matching Porsche watch with the green dials ... 💚
My dream 911 is still the GT3 touring with a back seat and 911 turbo noise insulation. If you really want to make me happy, allow me to option the glass roof and adaptive cruise control as well
I love this heritage edition Targa if you take the stickers off. Python Green is also my preferred color on the GT3 Touring. Good luck on your allocation!
Would it not have been stickers but painted it would actually be an investment. Really ridiculous of Porsche, but the good thing is you can put the the stickers on your normal 911 😂 can't believe someone would buy this
The colour combo and the interior fabric. Splendid. Fender strip not as keen but for a rally look w the door ready for a number. its distracting from the Targa.
I had the opportunity to see one of these at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, and I thought it looked great (although admittedly not for everybody). The price is nuts, however. How can this be twice as much as a Boxster GTS 4.0 (which is itself a very expensive vehicle)?
I've checked and found a non " Heritage " costs around 100K less. That's a hefty markup for some corduroy seats and special paint colour and a bit of fake gold bling.
Question for you George. If you owned a 2018 GTS Cab manual and a 2019 Targa 4S PDK and needed to turn one in to get your new 992 GT3 which one would you give up? Asking for a friend.
a cool $195K, vinyl stickers include =P ( needs a 6 speed manual, real exhaust tips, remove the exterior black plastic or paint it) ( not sure how I feel about paying $200K for huge white sticker on the side of my car unless I plan to shoot it with a $1B dollar laser cannon from space )
Motoman, all things included (engine, gearbox, but also styling and price) would you have this, or the Boxster 25 if you are talking about special edition convertible Porsches with trim as their defining features?
@@MotoManTV one week left. I’m waiting. I love manuals but never had a porsche manual. Not sure if I need to go with pdk this time. So looking forward to your opinion since you do it all the time.
@@SRG7796 Sadly, learned this week that there will be an embargo from Porsche AG on all GTS driving impressions until late September . . . don't shoot the messenger:)
Question for Motoman: What would you think of a Targa 4S specked with a Gentian Blue Metallic exterior and a leather interior in Black/Bordeaux Red? Thank you....
George, based on the early viewer comments, the Millenials hate it. Based on your comments, we can deduce that your taste in aesthetics is leaning towards my age bracket ( 60+). I of course love it, minus the decals. As a teenager, I drooled over 70's era 911 Targa, while my friends drooled over TransAms. It's a course to actually have good taste, isn't it.

Never owned ol German cars so most of this would be lost on me. There’s a time and place for this if there are buyers. Eventually it will be left to photos and museums but until then…enjoy the ride.
As an AMG GTC owner looking in, I have to say how ridiculous these packages are from Porsche. You really need more $$$ than brains to spend $50K on a set of decals, badges, and different tach font. Come on!
if you really had GTC you would understand the packages and if you want something different and tasteful you pay the money, and at this level, is cheap
I used to put vinyl sticky number decals when I autocrossed. Any days end they went in the trunk. Unfortunately you can’t do that with this hideous cash cow from Porsche. Corduroy pants used to make a whooshing sound when you walked and got shiny with age.
I love the targa but those decals make it hideous. Reminds me of the tacky special editions of “personal luxury coupes” from the 70s. Porsche just needs to add rich Corinthian leather…
Disappointed in the undercarriage quality. Look at 04:31 - is that a plastic tie-wrap?! Compare to an AMG GT for example - that’s built like a race-car. Under the 992, I see plastic, tie wraps, and generally not great quality parts that don’t seem like they will stand up to 20+ years of use.
That’s not a zip tie nor is it plastic but as a mechanic I’ll forgive that one because some of those V-bands do look like a zip tie. They come in a multitude of different sizes and shapes for different applications. Most common application is exhaust which looks like some crazy looking sleeve/clamp and they’re awesome 1. Impossible to ever have an exhaust leak. 2. No more rusted bolts and needing to cut old exhaust off or breaking out the “hot wrench”. All high end performance and racing exhaust use V-bands.
I was going to buy one of these but the greed that the dealers exhibit is over the top! Once you tack the greed factor into the the price, I can buy something way better than this so why should I buy this. I'm not into garage queens so if I did buy this I'd put 100K miles on it easily and would not care. What I do care about is a greedy dealer putting $100K mark up on the car, Porsche should do something about the greed within their dealers, it's disgusting behavior!!! Folks with the money to buy these cars do not like being ripped off!!!!
You need to find a better dealer. I would never pay over list. After 9 brand new P cars, I never have. Like anything else, there are good dealers and bad. Don’t give up on Porsche because of that... just check around.
The car is nice but I'm not a fan of the retro attempt at 70s graphics. It's like someone took the screaming chicken of a Trans Am and stuck it on a sporty....well, Buick (since Pontiac's dead).
You will never get a GT3 allocation because the deep dark truth is that they are designed as a margin enhancement for dealers and their best customers. Notice how the majority of GT3s are flipped soon after they are delivered? Porsche’s official stance is that they do not want buyers to flip them; but the opposite happens. Dealers make a ton of profit when they sell it, often over sticker, then another chunk of profit when they are resold. Porsche could make more GT cars and also really enforce the no-flipping policy, but they do not. On purpose. Think about it.
Not sure if he wont get a slot but of course it's purposeful for many reasons. As to the GT3s being 'designed as margin enhancements': nonsense. Porsche designs these cars to slowly dole out it's highest end tech to prove they build the best cars, first and foremost. Margin and relationships are a byproduct of the successful lineup over two decades plus specials back to the '70s. As far as flipping goes, they just build the allotment count that makes the most financial sense for the company and let the market determine the over. Why do anything else? The bottom line with these cars are that they drive the pants off of anything else, and they still don't cost as much on the over.
@@mtnvalley9298 Don’t agree. I’m in Schmee’s camp, who sold his 991.2 GT3 and kept his AMG GTR. If Porsche really wanted the GT3 to go to enthusiasts and not flippers, they would create and enforce the no sale for 2-3 years.
@@Fluterra Porsche has made a range of car that stands second to none when it comes to depreciation, starting with the Macan. Shmee lost his ass when it comes to his GT3 sale(one of the few), so why follow anything he says about GT3s? Again, not enforceable anyway as has been proven over and over.
@@mtnvalley9298 He didn’t but or sell it for economic reasons! You missed the point. The point is he preferred the GTR. I’m not saying the GT3 is not great, but when you factor in that many think the GTR is better, and that MB does not play “allocation games” as a way to boost profits - as a buyer, it was clear which way to go. No disrespect, but 99% of the viewers here are tire kickers. Which is totally great - I was too for decades. But when you actually have $200K cash in hand and are ready to pull the trigger, the way Porsche builds and prices the 911s totally turned me off.
Questionable colour taste…got to be Gentian blue and an appropriate interior? Porsche GB website says the following: “this Edition revives what was once considered cool”
