I so love striper fishing. I been catching and releasing them since 1999. Love those circle hooks, been my fav for years. You got to appreciate even with a bluefish your more than likely to hook up at the corners of the fishes mouth. And less likely to have the line bitten off or shredded.
Ok so crazy Alberto and the kid from NJ will put you on fish the right way the dude from Carolina idk it’s just not where the trophy fish live. I’m from south NJ so maybe I’m biased.
@@georgepoveromo6133 that’s awesome!! Hope to see you up this way again soon! I have 2 short RU-vid videos of trolling for some monster striped Bass from last March. Check them out.
The circle reg is honestly just dumb an barely helps in my opinion really the only time people gut hook a striper is when its there first time fishing for them or just wait to long on live bait but once they realize that they will know when to set the hook an will barely ever gut hook the fish vs with circle hooks. Where ur waiting for that hook to pretty much get down near the stomach an then u reel down and just lift but i've seen a lot of fish getting gilled raked by the circle hook. Which will def kill the fish vs the octopus hooks which u set the hook almost as soon as u feel that tick on the line or if the fish has bait and starts to swim away but fishing for stripers in jersey is a joke. No one will actually tell u anything that will actually help u find stripers or they tell u a spot where stripers are bitting like crazy but then u go to that spot an it was already blown out an then don't catch anything or they were catching fish there but they tell u a week later which is useless I even went to a spot a the fisherman magazine said was good spot an absolutely nothing so yea very misdirecting when it comes to stripers.
Give circle hooks a try - they’ll end up hooking more fish for you, once you get the setting-the-hook-method down (you don’t set the hook; you simply wind tight until the fish runs off line from the reel. The hook will then slide to the corner of the fish’s jaw and successfully set). The key is to use non-offset (in line) circle hooks. Offset circle hooks hook fish deeply almost as much as J hooks. And once a circle hook is set, it’s difficult at best for a fish to shake it free. Have faith, my friend.
