Recently received the Model 3 for review, and I thought: surely this can't be right? Looked on RU-vid and found your video. Glad we found the same issues. Think most can be fixed via FW though :)
@@EmergentTechnology with electric cars is just recently. Mercedes Benz and BMW took time to get to perfection and Tesla is not even close to that. Let give them the benefit of the doubt. Am not making excuses for them but truth must to be told.
I think this is where Ford is trying to push a combination of practicality with their touch screens. The knob in the middle is unsightly but at least it's a physical input. It would be nice if manufacturers put soft buttons on the sides/edges of the touch displays so that you could adjust volume and other controls without having to look at the display. (Perhaps volume isn't the best example, since you can control it with the steering wheel, but you know what I mean). Many modern aviation/aircraft touch panels have a combination of buttons and touch controls to make input easier while you're riding the bumps in the air.
I've been driving the Model 3 for 8 months and rarely need to touch the screen while driving. Hundreds of commands are available by voice control and this works well for me. "Wiper on. wipers" off etc. "Take me to Chicago" no problem. If navigation is more complicated, stop and type it in. I often wonder if reviews like this are by people who haven't driven the car, being picky or simply FUD. That's not to say that the system is perfect but I'm sure it will continue to improve.
Take into consideration not all Teslas are built to the same level of quality. Mine still, after 9 months, sometimes doesn’t pick up voice commands on the first try. Since I made this video, the number of voice commands has increased. Back then, saying “radio” did nothing. Now it switches to radio. I still can’t select/dial a station by voice, though. Yes, it continues to improve, and yes, it is still flawed.
