@@TigerKurdish Agree. Ones in a while a tiny little face lift is fine. Als internal if it makes it better. I think it is amazing that Tesla can do over the air updates. Just amazing. And now Elon Musk just anounced that full autonomy auto pilot can be expected at the end of the year. Probably a bit ater but you can see that Tesla is miles ahead of the competition. Respect.
Bought a Peal White Model S P85 back in 2014 and powdercoat blacked the wheels. 100,000 miles later its still one hell of a fun drive and still looks current. Chuck mountain bikes in it and go. Head off 500 miles and its all free. What a machine. What tests dont get is the acceleration and responsive punch at any speed is addictive along with one pedal driving. Cant wait for Roadster.
I have a p85+ as well and nearing that 100k mile barrier too, can’t wait for the future. Will be sure to buy only Tesla vehicles as daily driver here on out!!! They are amazing vehicles to drive honestly!!
Nah when it launched it never threatened the gas car industry, but Musk had a bigger picture in his mind. Glad he stuck with it. In regards to electric veeks, def a game changer.
I would say Model X is unique with falcon doors. for sure will find many customers for upcoming years. I guess the reason is not many sold compare to Model S is definitely price.
The model X is a concept car that should've not been produced, yet is available to purchase. Massive sloping windshield, all motorized doors, falcon wings rear doors, individually motorized middle row... That's an overengineered show car that miraculously hit production. I consider it the coolest production car ever made and can say with certainty we'll never see anything quite like it.
I think this sums up the different models pretty well, the people you'll see driving them in the UK: Model S - Sales reps, business men. Model 3 - Software engineers, geeks, boy racers, people who just want an affordable EV. Model X - Elderly people. (I guess it's easier to get into?) Model Y - Not released in Europe yet. :( Though the Model 3 is the cheapest, some people, myself included, bought it over the Model S because of the crazy modern interior, plus I really like the side profile of it with the gray 20" performance wheels! It is the most economical, but some people just prefer some models over the others. The most expensive isn't always the one people want! (But nearly 800bhp would nice of course)
MrXtraconservative loool, true, but the X is beautiful obsolete . I will get one because of the space and comfort the X offers. In 2018 I almost chose them but the S was the better choice for the long tours in Europe. But it’s a men thing , this falcon doors and have a tank, even electric or because of!
every day i drive this car is a joy. Economically it makes more sense to buy a 3/Y, but the S is phenomenally fast, an absolute beauty to look at (unlike the other models tbh), munches the miles in comfort on long journeys and still exceptionally fun on twisty B roads. It also has an immense amount of cargo space to carry stuff. It's practical AF and also great fun to drive. It's definitely wide for UK roads but you get used to it v. quickly - I've taken it down loads of narrow roads in cities and country lanes - including squeezing it through tiny roads in Cornwall - without issue.
Although the Model 3 is definitely a more sensible buy, if I had the money, I’d take the S. I’ve tried both of them, and the feeling you get when driving the Model S is just so much better than the 3. Feels less like sitting in a laptop, and more like in a spacious living room 👌🏼
Even after 8 years, the Model S is a gorgeous car and turns my head when I see one on the road. People/JOURNALISTS keep clamoring for an updated design. Why? I think Tesla has taken a great approach by UPDATING the technology and performance whilst leaving the looks basically alone. If it AIN"T BROKE, don't fix it! How many years did Volkswagen successfully produce the Beetle whilst continually improving it? Ditto for the Dodge Caravan minivan which hasn't had even a styling refresh for 9 years. Yet it still had it's BEST sales year in 2018 since 2004 in a market which is supposedly totally dead. People don't buy minivans for style. They buy them for functionality and the Dodge Caravan is an unbeatable example for ultimate utility. Sadly, it has finally reached the end of it's journey due to regulatory issues which it can no longer meet without massive investment. Instead, FCA has created a "dumbed down version" of their Pacifica Minivan which has NEVER sold well because it's just too damned expensive for mass market minivan buyers.
only thing I would change is back lights/taillights and in some cases horizontal screen would be more useful (maybe for RU-vid). rest without any changes I guess.
explicitDTP Allow me to correct myself. I did not mean as big as Tesla. I meant pretty decently sized touchscreens can be found in most cars now, which was not the case back in 2012
I thought I had seen such review time and time again but I must say that your review is way more detailed (and keeping it simple), there are lots of information you gave in this review that I did not know! I think this is the kind of review we all have been missing for a while!! Well done.
Bought my blue MS 70D during lockdown. . Definitely the best car I've ever owned . . Love it and don't find it too big and it's plenty agile enough. Never get bored of red traffic lights .
I have had 3 model S's since 2012 and absolutely have enjoyed the motoring experience they all have given me. I currently have the Model X and it would be nice to have the seats from the S in it instead of the seats it has but all in all I'm happy
Great review, Thank you!! I drove long time AMG but don’t miss them at all! The Model S is incredible fast like nothing else, very good on my long range tours trough Europe and fun pur! The white seats are still white after two years, the quality is excellent, had one small repair and the service team in Hamburg is great! I just ordered an Cyber Truck and will get this summer an X. What can I say, Advantage from Technology , The Best or Nothing .....the ultimative driving machine, Tesla!
OMG, at present age of 90, I got to drive a Tesla 100S for almost an hour. Most incredible car ever. I drive an Audi turbo which is like a slug compared to the Tesla. Beautiful, comfortable. This car has been on my bucket list for several years, and now I can say I got to drive it. Fantastic response, something I've never experienced, even at theme parks. Loved every minute in it!!
The fact that Tesla's are being reviewed on all these regular car channels says loud anD clear that Tesla is here to stay. They are in. The hardest part of their journey has passed.
Tesla still has challenges but a lot of the close calls have been overcome. Now three GFs are being built or will start soon, includes phase 2 of GF Shanghai. GF Berlin getting a very good start now that construction has actually started. Giga Factory Texas will be in Austin, construction should start before too long . Check out RU-vid on the GF constructions, weekly updated drone videos cool.
I'm a born & raised petrol head, I'll be honest, I think this is the best car on the planet. I shall await the Tesla revamp of this model, then order one. I have driven the 2019 version,. a truly ground-breaking car. also I never use door pockets. glad Tesla removed them.
It started out at about 372 miles when I got a ‘20 model S in February, then a software update upped that to about 390, then an EPA reassessment raised it to 402 miles. Those OTA software updates come about every 3 weeks and each adds a handful of new functionality or a refinement on a existing one, typically more options. The way it’s designed additions can go on for years, really a superb design/interface. Tesla cars gets better with time, what other car brand has that?
tesla (unlike others) quotes range figures if you drive from 100% full battery to 0% full (empty), which is completely unrealistic as they recommend not charging it to 100% and obviously running it to empty will likely leave you stranded somewhere. then there's temperature. in really cold weather expect to knock 40% off the range especially as the s doesn't have a heat pump.
My S is a midnight silver metallic (gold and blue dust in the paint), carbon slipstream wheels and a beige with oak interior. Love it, best car I’ve ever owned and I’ve been driving for over 60 years. Even more fun to drive than the ‘32 Ford roadster hot rod of my youth.
I prefer the Model S because of the design language and range better than any of the Telsas in the Tesla line up. I like the space and cargo room which is better than the M3, I like the heated steering wheel and windshield wipers. I'm a bigger guy the seats were very secure for me. The ride quality is perfect for me because I do a lot of road trips and for me feeling the feedback from the road can be a little annoying. That's just a few things. I think the Model S is definitely a good buy.
Drive a P90D, rip your face off fast, free supercharging, looks incredible, 3 dogs in the boot regularly, near zero company car tax…..best car I’ve ever owned! Absolutely love it! Great review
Surprisingly there's still a lot of room for improvement, at the same time I can't find anything as fuel efficient and the other options seem to be more expensive.
Shamut on EV’s Existing stock cars still have unlimited supercharging associated with them. Probably trying to clear inventory ahead of new battery cars (hopefully!)
Yeah im sure they did away with free supercharging sometime back. They did have a month last year they were pushing cars, so offered free supercharging, but alas it didn't last long 😢
Chris Potts that’s just a clear indication that if U can ever afford a brand new 1 (which would be my goal for 2025), HUNT ON QUARTER ENDS and U might end up with a rare bird - a late (❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️4TECH) Tesla Model S with perpetual free driving. A GOAL to set, just put your own date. I’ve got a hunch that Elon loves the S so much, they will just keep upgrading it forever, and by doing so will change the automotive industry!
Recent software releases increased range to 402 (double the Porsche?) and it now will stop and proceed at red lights and stop signs if someone is ahead of you. Sentry mode is awesome. The Model S has aged very well but I would wait for the Plaid version since it is due out later this year. In the meantime, WE LOVE OUR MODEL 3.
@@bluebikerathar The main delay will be the amount of data. The system has to learn the rules for every country. More cars, the faster learning occurs.
How long ago was this filmed? Traffic lights are shown on the screen and the autopilot responds to green and red light and stop signs. He said that traffic lights were coming.
Please stop quoting the 0-100% charge time. It doesn't mean anything, and it's not comparable between different cars with different batteries and efficiencies. And it put off people that doesn't know better ("15 hours to charge my car? What I'm supposed to do with that?"). A much better number to quote is charging time to get a certain range, say 50KM for domestic/AC, or 200KM for a fast charge, for example.
I do like the S and the X, but not that keen on the 3 or the Y. My reason? Because they don't have the "through steering wheel dials" that 99% of cars have and all the info is on the tablet to the side. And I know Tesla fanboys will say/winge, "Oh! You get used to it." I know I can get used to it, but that still doesn't stop me liking them both. If Tesla did dials in the "normal" position, then I'd like all 4 of them.
Correction. If you buy a Model S from Tesla`s second hand inventory you will NOT get free supercharging for the life of the car. That was an original marketing incentive for new cars pre 2017, so be careful! Tesla are removing free supercharging from old cars being part exchanged
The Model S is the nicest if you look at the exterior, but if you look at the interior it is the 3 or Y. I like the screen when it is laying down much more than standing up. Also, the 3 and Y is even more minimalistic which gives you a more futuristic feeling.
1:34 Model S is the best as it is wide and long, 3 is the sportiest as the interior is sleek and love the track mode, X is a super luxury concept, Y is for a family man and looks like a 3 so I love that it is sporty.
Camping in a Tesla is great. I did it recently and despite being hot AF out I stayed cool all night. After watching Netflix before bed on the big screen. How long ago was this filmed? So many new features not mentioned. What about the games and movies?
I think that you misspoke at 8:34 when you said undoubtedly the Model S is one of the fastest cars in the world. It has a top speed of 163mph, I think there are many cars that have a higher top speed. I think that you meant to say one of the quickest cars in the world which has to do with acceleration.
@@cactuschatt More like 30k+. The first time I went on the Tesla website and built my dream model S car to see how much it would cost, it was close to $100,000. I tried again yesterday and the same car was $67,000.
@@kojok4667 I first did it in 2016 and it was close to 100k. I did it again at the same time I left my comment (about a month ago), and the price came out to $67,000. Go to the Tesla website and try it yourself. If you get the base model with the cheapest everything, it comes out to $67,000. It's only more expensive if you get upgrades (i.e. to the interior, exterior, etc).
I love how this is a week old and already outdated. The car may be 8 years old without many visual changes but it's constantly evolving in both software and hardware upgrades.
Just a few months ago - shortly after I ordered my car, but before it was produced - Tesla changed the seats to thinner ones and did away with the adjustable headrest. I was uncertain about the changes, but since owning the car I’ve found the new seats remarkably comfortable on long drives.
Can you please do the review with the most recent adaptive air suspension improvements delivered with the latest software update 2020.32.1? I've had it for a week and it's a game changer in cornering and damping!
Good man yourself enjoy. Hope the tyres aren't to expensive. I might treat myself to one life is to short and they is fuck all been offered in interest from the banks.
Glad you did some comparison points to the Taycan. Soooo impressed with these two car companies embracing the future with practical great looking products.
Since I’ve driven a few Teslas the next I put on my bucket list is actually owning and keeping one, regardless if it takes me 3 or ten years to get there. I’m just getting a £30k i3 - great deals 2B had if U can live with 33KWh - as the first item in my collection of EV’s THAT CHANGED THE WORLD and Model S will be added as no.2, although it’s pretty much no.1 if it comes to importance.
Shamut on EV’s I’m talking about BMW i3. I paid £30k brand new for a 42kwh with many optional extras. Discounts to be had from BMW dealers if you are lucky enough to get one that will offer a stock vehicle. I don’t know why you’d be searching for an i3 on Tesla’s website? Luckily, being in Scotland I also got 6 years 0% interest loan through national initiative and pay £0 for VED.
Seawolf the real figures in Poland today are: my i3 £26.35K, TM3 £40.53K - I could not take the financial burden above 30K PLUS when I do get a TM3 it will have at least 10K options on top so the difference becomes doubling of the price
Great video. BTW, the symbols for the second and hour are "s" and "h", respectively, not "sec" and "hr". Also, you need the space between the number and the unit symbols.
You do know that more than 90% of the world uses the metric system. If you are going to post on youtube, you should also think about adding the metric conversions as well.
Hamwamaangezockt what kind of sales problems do they have? They don’t have a dealership network to scam you and rip you off like with all the other traditional auto companies. Plus they have mobile service as well. Something also not offered by all other traditional auto companies.
For a car Tech company to be about 10 years old it's incredible, cosmetic stuff is easy fix, the core important things like driver train, battery, driving dynamics, newest technology and solid mechanicals Tesla got all right which is the priority
I like the car and the technology, but must it try and sell itself based on its acceleration? Surely they should invest in range rather than 0-60 speed? If you want to race, get a sports car!
If the market revolves around acceleration, then that is what the manufacturers go for too. All the car mags and you tube channels, first thing they do is a drag race. It is pretty pointless in the read world though. The model S is termed a "Sports Sedan" and if you haven't had the opportunity to have a go, as the presenter says, put it on your bucket list. It is very different to an ICE - the acceleration from standing is instant and neck snapping. It isn't just the 0-60, it feels very different. The Tesla Roadster 2.0 is supposed to deliver 0-60 in just 1.8 seconds. Madness.
I agree w. you in principle. However... Have you tried it in reality? I did last summer - This spring I bourght myself and the wife a Model S :- ) After trying it there was no doubt; and I'm no 'electric car person' by a long leap. Its the combination: Of fantastic tech. & pure fun of a crazy acceleration. Sure; rationality... But it puts a smile on my face every. single. day :- ] Greetings from Scandinavia.
It's just a pity that manufactures have not concentrated on making an EV that millions of ordinary working-class can afford to buy! Not much good a car having all the latest tech & with a thousand-mile range if you can't afford one
Its early days of electric cars and the supporting infrastructure So early adopters are key with disposable income In time cars will drop in price as technology and mass production improves Just like a 4k telly one minute cost 3000 for one now can pick on up for 300 quid
Bear in mind that Tesla is the only auto manufacturer that is not price gouging on EVs. There is no justification for the cost of (say) a Vauxhall Corsa EV when compared to the same Corsa with an engine. They can't harp on about battery cost because it has been plummeting and continues to reduce. I have done the math (as have many others) and I believe the main reason why there are no cheap affordable EVs is because until they are forced to, the manufacturers won't make them. It makes no sense for THEM, it makes lots of sense for the hapless car buyer. If Tesla came out with a no frills 200 mile sub compact for £12,000 - then all of a sudden the rest of them would be at it. Until then, there is no incentive.
@Seawolf Yep I agree, but I still find it strange that this review says the Model S delivers worse than it's EPA range and the Taycan is supposed to deliver better than it's EPA range - based on real world conditions. This suggests the EPA cycle is doing something to mask the Taycan's real range, something I have never heard of before with any car, EV or otherwise. I read recently that a Hyundai Kona achieved a whopping 600 miles. Driven round an oval track at 20 mph.
@@ouethojlkjn Bjørn Nyland on RU-vid did a real world range test with Model S Long Range and Taycan 4S 93 kW. Taycan got 425km or range and Model S 473km of range. That's 264 and 294 miles or range respectively.
@@Hyrppa95 Thanks that's interesting- Bjorn does good range tests. Can you post the link? Looking at the EV database, the Model S LR is 90kwh (not 100 kwh) and the Taycan 4S has 83.7kwh (not 93kwh) so I guess these figures are usable as opposed to actual. This suggests still only around 6kwh difference in the packs. They go on to report that the Model S does 100 miles more because it is that much more efficient watts per mile. This is the bit that is confusing as the Taycan is unashamedly a performance car and makes no concessions to economy. But maybe if both cars are driven carefully, have similar battery size, similar weight, similar drag then they are likely to get similar results.
