By the way if you want more info on the mods added in part 3 there are links in the description below. Cheers to the boys in Welshpool for getting it done in one day.
so why a hilux, was it free.?.your going backwards. the rear diff centre has bolt issues. im told. plus, when you doing a s.a.s. & coil swap.??..i think you lost the plot, the 79 was bad enough, now you support ifs. yes,,i know,,we have to buy/support toyota, regardless of how bad they are..mitsubishi is a better vehicle. or a dodge power wagon.. id have the later..were mot all caravan towing gray nomads yet..ill keep my s/duty..
annoying useless space, tub sides. yanks have boxes accessable from outside. no swing rubbish..& a step in t/gate to get in a real 8ft tub..gas struts are a waste. too much bling stuff..like linex. waste of money. esky, swag, job done..too many restrictions in this country to build a 4x4,so people concentrate on'' what shit can i fit to it. ''. then, its over gvm,& you stay home..
@@benjamin-rn5zn you obviously dont watch ronnys channel very often. He is really transparent about it when and if he gets something for free to check stuff out.
@@justdowntheroad4218 keep dreaming lad, it’s his business first and foremost and how he keeps a roof over his head & income coming in. If you think different your delusional. Otherwise why he did and Wayne part ways eh??? He’s not doing this for funsies, why do you think he & PDP & Justin at PC are all besties, it’s all mutual interests. The more he can get people “out” and about, more people line up at PDP to part with their money. I respect Ronny for what he’s doing. But let’s call a spade a spade
Those swing out boxes are going to be painful when the tub is full of other stuff. I imagine you'll just not swing them out and open them where they sit. And $350 EACH for a plastic moulded box is an excellent example of how ridiculously things are priced once the word 4WD is included in their name.
Swing away Boxes, CON, It appears that you can only access them by swinging them out, (Tub lid latches in the way) that would mean that anything in the swing arc would have to be moved to access its contents.
LIne-X standing up well for me, I transported 1000kg of wet lime plaster 250 miles, in mine and was a little alarmed to see white caustic stains in the back, but hosed it out and it looks like new again. It's stood up to a few pallets and fork lift drivers as well! Giving the winter tyres a shake down here in the UK at the moment as we've got snow and ice.
Bloody good ideas there horse. I reckon I could fit a few more rods and rifles in now. The old lady can probably bring an extra handbag. Cause she always needs a spare bag or 2 when we go on missions
Another good thing about spray on liner is that as opposed to a drop in liner, if there is dents/scratches already in the tub it will not sweat in-between the tub and liner and accelerate rusting. I also have the Uneek sliders and they're a great bit of kit, nice looking but very solid. The tailgate storage is definitely the best mod by far, I was looking at buying the same kit but the price was a bit steep, I went the DIY option and used a sheet of stainless with piano wire hinge, cost me a day and only $100, all my recovery gear and tie down/ratchet straps etc live in there. Looking forward to the next vid Ronny good work.
Tub liner and the rock sliders are a fantastic choice. I looked very closely into the tailgate storage as well as the wheel arch storage and concluded that they aren't worth the hassle. I think a lot of people go for a big alloy canopy, but I reckon you can get a style side functional if you set it up right.
Fantastic. Thanks for the great detail including weight gain on the build. This sort of depth is sadly missing from so many other 4x4 RU-vid videos.. Cheers.
Hi Ronny the Hilux series is great. As for a seal for the tailgate i purchased one from Toyota for my 2017 N80 SR5 was not cheep but work well but goes right across the lower tray section as well.
Line X tub is my favorite mod. Did it to my NP300 and i even had the outside of the tailgate done... black Nav with a full Line X Tailgate. Line X Welshpool did an amazing job and it looks great plus protection. Love the stuff... would be the first thing i get done after driving a new ute out of the showroom for sure. 👍
For tailgate seals: ESI RokBlock and taperseal gaskets. I know people who use it to keep the dust and water out of their camper/shell and from what I've seen it works quite well.
You are making it very hard for me to not to sell the Prado and start a Hilux project.. extremely great information thanks Ronny. Love the Ute Master. Kiwi made!
Really good idea in the tail gate. Can put lots of small goodies in there. I have been quite unsure about the swing cases but I'm keen to see your longer term review. Biggest thought from me is if the swing ability really useful when car is fully loaded?
I had a factory spray in bed liner on a Nissan Frontier is used to own. A con for bed liner is that it is a sandpaper-like texture, so it can scratch up stuff that's in the bed. Not an issue for everything, but you have to think ahead on what gets thrown in there.
I love my SwingCase storage unit! Has all my recovery gear, inflator tools, tire repair kit and machete. Easy to remove when needed to haul large items in my truck (Ute☺️) bed.
Hey Ronny. Been running the Uneek 4x4 rock sliders on my 2013 Ranger for about 5 years. They have saved my doors and sills numerous times in the Vic High Country. Also running the Uneek crawler bar and also been fantastic. Lucky me though I was able to get them a lot cheaper as they really weren't known back when I bought mine. Thanks mate.
Coming along very nicely and very useful items added. Have always liked the idea of using Line-x in the tub, still yet to get mine done eventually but so much better then the factory plastic tubs. Love the scary thought of sanding and chopping something new or clean 😂
been following about d hilux mods(literally all ur vids/uploads)... good reviews, tutoral and info in this channel!!! more power to you... will be uploading pics/vids of my "old" 4x4 on my channel... u were my inspiration to be active on my YT, especially during this covid times, where i didn't have any income since jan2020... since all my gigs were cancelled. by d way i'm a musician, so.... until now...
Don’t worry about cutting the tailgate, the ‘in’ thing atm is cutting off the back of brand new 200s with 10km on the clock. Tailgate mod is great and Aussie which is great💪 linex tub is great. Personally I think the swing aways won’t last and are more of a hindrance. Would be nice to see the nice lines on the front end carried on with the Bullbar - always hard to do. Nice rig👌
Absolutely loving project Luxy! Favourite mod: rock sliders, they look great and I was surprised how light they are. Almost favourite: the partial chrome delete! Why not also do the handles? Least favourite mod: the swing out boxes. They look like you need to unpack gear to swing out and seem heavy. I'd probably have looked for small plastic boxes or canvas bags that fit the general area or built a permanent box for compressor or such like.
Top vids Ronny - really makes me sorry about all the things that I didn't do when I lived in Perth. Would you be able to give people an idea of what impact all the mod work has on the Toyota warranty?
Ronny, Toyota actually make a factory supplied kit. Give your Toyota dealer a call. Mate of mine just installed one and it looks pretty good to be honest and I think it was fairly reasonably priced too
My father-in-law dust proofed his tailgate using a swimming pool "noodle". Just trimmed it around all the edges and it works great. Also keeps carbon monoxide out so the dogs can ride safely in the tub.
Line-X is great, very tough. I had a 1 ton that the box was sprayed, couple of days later I hauled a few loads of gravel, no marks from the gravel or the steel spades used to unload.
Also, I just bought myself a brand new 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, the Tub is already a plastic material with a scratch resistant surface. So i just placed the Toyota Rubber Mat for $109 US. I will be getting one of those storage bins in the near future.
Hi Ronny, I have just fitted a Grunt4x4 seal to my triton tailgate. Looks like it will seal about 99%. Fairly good kit only took about 10-15mins to fit, only downside is you have to nearly slam the tailgate to get it to shut.
Spray linex round the tailgate kit to seal it from dust, and use the boxes to house your electrics maybe? I don't know... it's your truck, you will know best calm down Ronnie, hahaha it's just a suggestion. Thanks again much appreciated. All the best!🙂👍
Nice mods Ronnie . I like the rock sliders but a tad pricey . What happens if someone crashes into your rear end , are all those mods covered by insurance ? Unless you upgrade your policy you won't get them back if the worse happens :-)
Looking good. The huracan looks like a great quick-access storage. Have to admit I spent the first half a bit distracted waiting to hear who you are & what channel Im watching though ;)
another great video...like the mods, all looks good...the tailgate storage is a great idea, but not sure i would add 20kg to the GVM for what is just a small storage area for a couple of pouches and puncture repair kit, too much weight for very little extra storage space !! look forward to next build
Good choice on the bedliner in my opinion. The fact that it's permanent is actually a big pro, not a con, if you're not planning to keep the truck forever. At least that's true where I live. The reason is that a permanent bed liner like that will actually increase the value of the truck if you go to sell it, compared to an otherwise identical vehicle without it.
Hi there ronny ,lux is getting better and better , like that tail gate , don't like putting stainless steel there might be a bit hot to sit on, and it's not magnetic, I had a new lux back in 97, bit of a slug but never let me down. 👍😁
I order a huracan tailgate storage to my 80, sent to the UK. Not yet fitted but can't wait. The lux one looks better but much more expensive. Greetings from UK and Portugal 🇵🇹🇬🇧
hi ronny i used to be coach driver doing through out australia witch included dusty roads and we han fans in luggage areas and as can imagine with the size of those luggage doors it very to create a seal and these fan work extremely well
Positive pressure is the answer. When I mentioned my tub dust problem to my mining engineering mate he said for all his machine cabins he fits a positive pressure system to keep all his workers dust free (at least whilst they’re working inside!)
Dust wont get in the Hurracan storage case. I put all my recovery gear in there. See I drive a ranger and never need it so hence its a good spot for it.
Toyota Make a dust defense kit for the tail gate and they work pretty well i just fitted one to the back of my hilux and love it nothing worse than pulling up at camp and have a tub full of dust
I was so excited by the Huracan I paused the video and Googled it. Nothing here in the states for a Tacoma in that specific brand. It's such a good idea there has to be something similar.
Woaw bro im also in botswana, but i find we dont need these big camping trays here cause we actually work our bakkies (not saying the Aussies dont, they do both dedicated camping, touring, off roading and work) but atleast we can get bullbars here LMFAO
@@Ronny_Dahl Aren't those swing cases a bit redundant, as in they may use that space behind the wheel arch but they need just as much space to swing out so aren't they taking up that usable space?
I'm an Aussie but I just watched a lot of videos of Yanks bitching about the build quality. We'll see how long they last once he hits a few tough tracks.
Awesome mods Ronny. Can't wait to see the roof vid, you should add a Bazooka Water Tank for an offgrid shower system to the platform. That will add another Australian made mod 🇦🇺🚿
Ronny. Clark rubber has pinch weld and all sorts of seals that keep the dust away. I did it to my ute (different brand) and haven't had any dust issues since.
Like the coating. The rear tailgate storage looks pretty shallow limiting options, however it might just be perfect for a rifle and ammo. You didn't mention whether it's lockable? Not sold on Swing away boxes. Very expensive for plastic and only useful if tub is empty.like you said be good if vehicle specific. Looking good and thanks Ronny
@@MerkeR__ Another wanker sticking his nose in. We were asked what mod we thought was best, which is what I replied to, has nothing to do with you so pull your head in
horses for courses. Your getting the Bronco and Hummer electric which i dont think Australia will be getting. Bronco is getting imported by third party but will be way too expensive.
Cheers Ronny and a happy new year to you. Another great video as always, thanks for that. Looking forward to your longer trip in the luxy. Thanks agian from a snowy denmark.
This video series is really helpfull and educational. I am considering buying either the new Hilux or L200 (sold as Triton in Aus). I was aiming for L200 as it has central diff and full time 4x4 - we are in snowy regions and this would be needed. However as Mitsu is leaving EU market, I will opt for the new 2.8L Hilux... May I ask 2 questions - is it possible to fit 16 inch wheels on the new models or are the brake discs too large? Also, in the previous videos you metioned great clearance (I think over 27 cm). Is this the clearance under the pumpkin on the rear axle? In that case it would be really good. What is the clearance under the IFS diff and below the doors, please (stock)?
It is beyond me why people buy a ute and then pay $$$ to transform it in a sedan. One with a hard to reach boot unless you have a gaff and/or stepladder! I can understand canopies. But reducing your load space to half while having a unwieldy wheel base and the turning circle of Queen Mary??
i would highly recommend Bilstein b6's for the hilux. even the b8 model. most Bilsteins are serviceable and are a mono-tube shock which means they don't heat up as much as a twin tube shock which means they are more efficient. I have fitted and sold many to 79 series/ 76 series and all the hilux models and they do very very well.
The 6 lights on the roof racks are overkill and belong on an 80’s Ute. They are positioned way too far forward and will just reflect off the dash/bonnet/future bullbar. May as well not bother wiring them up because they are truely just a prop and a hindrance. Install a single stedi light bar a little further back and you’ll love it.
