Just wondering Andy.Do you get special dispensation for riding during lockdown or are you just sticking 2 fingers up at this ludicrous lockdown especially as we bikers have more protection on than your average UK resident.?

As making videos on RU-vid is my "job" and I cant review bikes from home, I am within the rules riding for the purposes of making videos. I have taken legal advice on this. I haven't ridden my own bikes (or any bikes) for fun since before Christmas - which is gutting as I've only been able to ride the Goldwing I bought once so far!

@@MGman100 in 2019 I almost got a Street Twin, but eventually chose the Speed Twin. I couldn't even get insurance quotes on Street Triple RS's, I'd only just past my test as an early 50 something ! This would have been cheaper than both of them, and probably easier to insure than the Speed Twin, and faster than the Street Twin.

A very reliable source from Triumph's U.S. Sales Management Team told me that 50% of the Tridents allotted to the U.S. are already sold. He was not trying to sell me one, he's a friend. So yes, they'll probably sell all they ship here to the U.S.

I like the rear mudguard and number plate holder, leaves the tail section looking like a piece of art rather than having a number plate rudely hanging off and ruining everything

Was not really impressed with the looks at first, but saw it at a local dealership last week. Definitely looks better in the flesh! The tail looks really neat in particular, they did not slam on just a piece of plastic as a mudguard but the actually put some lines on it. And it eliminates the need for a costly tail tidy, with the benefit of not having a wet back at the end of the day :)

I love the fact that in every video where you wipe the helmet camera, we get the pov of that camera. There's something I quite enjoy about that, though I can't explain why. Love the video. 👍

Great looking bike with the exception of the license plate contraption, the quicker they go the journey the better, I really need to see a full back tyre on a bike, I hope a tail tidy can be sourced eventually.

Single clock looks good. And a fuel gauge! Bike sounds nice and seems to go ok. As you said, engine not as turbine like as the Street Triple but still goes ok. And NO keyless ignition.. What's not to like? Just needs a tail tidy, Like every other UK bike.

The 660 reminds me so much of my 09' 675 Stripple. I loved that bike and had it for about 5 years. I might be getting this bike for having fun with. I'm more practical now and am more attractive to retro bikes now. I just sold my 2012 Bonnie. I've had that for 9 years and cafed it out. I'm looking for an exciting new ride now with this kind of power. If only Triumph put this in a light weight, low seat hight retro. That would be my dream bike.

Can you imagine being a new young rider these days? You need to be wealthy really. Get your license. £1000 Get your gear £1000 Get a nice starter bike £7000 Get some insurance £1000 plus. Before you even turn a wheel on your own. No wonder every biker meet is full of middle aged men. The industry needs to lobby government to change the prohibitive costs involved of getting on the road. When I got my license 15yrs ago, I was a working man with disposable income and very lucky to be able to afford it all. Thanks TMF. Sorry for the long rant but some of the government's draconian motoring laws don't have alot of common sense attached and piss me off.

A Honda CB750 Four was the equivalent of £7500 when it was released in 1969, so bike prices aren’t a million miles away from what they used to be. Remember there’s a lot of choice now when it comes to the 250-500cc segment, all with very reasonable prices too!

Accounting for inflation, a 1972 Kawasaki Z900 that I bought used in 1974 for $900 then; would cost $7,200 to $9,000 today. Governments love inflation. It is the hidden tax. It is the reality of the metaphor of the frog that jumps out of hot water when thrown in, but if a frog is put in a ambient temperature pot of water and the water is slowly heated the frog will stay and die and cook.

@@MyMednas is it helping to reduce deaths in that restricted level? if so, then perhaps its worth it. I cut my teeth on 125's and scooters for my first 5 years, and had a massive amount of fun. Then went to a ktm 620 duke (or was it a 640) and i am very glad that i spent such a long time on the smaller bikes as i learnt so so much about riding.

Hooray, at last, excellent weather to drive my bike; around 16°C. I’ll make my first ride for this year in the coming days. Lots of bikes on the roads yesterday but I did a 30km bicycle ride; also my first for this year. Instruments look a bit small; I’ll need my glasses. I don’t like the headlight so close to the tft screen. Bigger headlight could improve that. I fear that the back wheel mudguard won’t keep you dry and clean. The bike will be very dirty. More upright seating position is good, especially when you get older. I’ve ridden one, two and four cylinder bikes but never rode a triple. No luggage capacity, no weather protection. Not a bike for longer tours. Nice for commuting, shorter trips without passenger.

Not sure about the looks. I think a rear seat cowl and removal of the pillion pegs would help, but not sure what to do about the indicators/plate bracket thingy. I'm sure somebody will come up with a tail tidy before long.

I'm happy to see it's got a proper brake fluid reservoir and not one of those clear urine jars. The Triumph designers continue to put out very good looking machines. Not my type of bike, but very nice looking none the less.

As you are lucky enough to have riden many of its competitors, the burning question has to be..... Would you choose it over an MT07, 790 Duke, CB650R or Z650? There are many people on the MT07 forums debating how it compares and we would LOVE to hear your opinion on this! Looking forward to your answer. Seems a nice naked bike with a rather nice 3 cylinder engine. In the same way that tea and cakes are nice. But will the aluminium bits protect the radiator, when they are needed? Great first impressions, marred only by the grey gloomy day and damp roads, bringing a shiver to my armchair.

There's something about the tank, how it is tilted off the frame at the back of it, that annoys me. And the downpipes pointing almost forward. Imo the Honda looks better. And that "80% of the torque" talk fits most bikes. And being picky, that fuel cap on the top looks weird. The lines on this bike is not in harmony. Imo, of course! Thank you mr Flyer!

You have not mentioned the clutch. What I want to know is why the makers do not make all bike seats adjustable for height, including tall people. Bikes being so low make them rather uncomfortable for those with long legs. That means 6 footers would be limited to a Versys or V-strom to get any comfort!

Got a little fatigued with folk pandered to a lovely time abroad and then raving about every facet with not a single negative. Yours was realistic, as usual, from the start. Thank you kindly for that. This is realistic money to me and a chunk of folk, I'm guessing, so a proper critique will be worth its weight in cussy creams if I decide to part with beer tokens for one. As an aside; please check your cameras, mate, that vlog was a little hard work on the eyes.....seemed quite dark. Could easily be my kit or the lousy weather but your vlogs are normally nice and bright. Thought it worth a mention. Take care, friend, keep smilin, chap.......

Looking forward to the rest of the videos regarding this bike Andy. I may consider buying it, but on looks alone, it does look similar to my Yamaha MT07 2015. So, I’m on the fence! What of the GoPro remote button? Did you pair it to yours and if you did, did it work well?

No I don't think this bike has the connectivity stuff enabled - at least I haven't found it in the menus so far (and TBH I'm not too bothered by that sort of thing...)

Not that you TMF espoused this sentiment, but I don't buy into the "it's just better and will sell better than the competition" commentary i've seen elsewhere. There are so many bikes in this segment and competition is everywhere. This feels more akin to a direct competitor in terms of "tech" to the CB650 whereas the MT07 and SV650/Kwaka are slightly simpler. All bikes seem fun and would likely have their living with pros and cons that only owners can attest to.

Looks great ,looks great quality but I will hold out on that front Schmidt look great new .switch gear very ktm esque .It's old school styling I think will kill a lot of potential sales .Pricing should have been 6900 max .The biggest failing is the non adjustable suspension but that can be said of many others .

It looks so much smaller and squat than in the original pictures. Also not a fan of the single clock, looks weird from Andy's riding perspective with nothing around it. Maybe a small fly screen would give it a better look. Good value though...

I would be really interested how it compares to MT-07. Also, since, I think, this is the cheapest Triumph available, does it feel cheap? What are the trade-offs? Cheers!

Great bit of filming and riding. I totally agree about the rear plate hanger, i bloody hate them, and would be interested to know if a company, maybe the guys at TEC, will be making a replacement under seat bracket, then i`d be interested in buying one. I will say one thing, you mentioned a couple of times about it hitting the rev limiter quickly, plus she did`nt have the performance of the Street Triple?. It`s not supposed to be a competitor for the ST, but an entry level bike, so, why compare the performance?, i think you should have just reviewed the bike as a comparison for its competitors such as yo later mentioned. Having said that, it was a great review, with some great riding on typical British roads in winter, thanks for posting it.

Andy, as usual you did a great first up view of this latest Triumph edition. I can’t say what it because I owned a “real” Trident. It has been nearly 50 yrs since the Triumph Trident 750 came to Australia. Being an old fart the modern Triumphs sound like they have turbo engines because of that whistle they all have. I use to have a Triumph T -shirt that said “ Triumph Load and Proud”. Even in this day and age when you hear a Harley you know it’s a Harley. When you hear a Ducati you know it’s a Ducati. When you hear a modern Triumph you wonder what the hell is that lol. I understand that most would probably disagree with me, but being a dinosaur we need love too lol. Thanks Andy from Down Under.

It seems like a tough choice but the cb650r is more beautiful to me, i think I like the 4cil sound a bit more, though you'd have to rev it. Still it's a nice offering from triumph in the middle naked class. Interested to see how you feel about the Honda when that video comes out. Cheers

I wish they were a bit more ambitious with the colour range. I have the matt blue cb650r from 2019, and I would love triumph to do like a blue or a red or something a bit more out there. If they made a yellow and black, I would buy that. Just all black/grey with small bits of red. The white is okay, but be nice if they were a bit more ambitious.

Hmmm. "Most fun to ride" middleweight naked bike? Nope. Still the MT-07. I am an older rider and don't need to have as much "fun" (code for lifting the front wheel) as I used to. I love Triumphs but that ugly rear end and the large radiator with contrasting color end caps on the Trident is enough to push me towards the similarly-priced Kawasaki Z650.

The thing that I am so curious about this bike, could you actually take a passenger? I'm not talking for touring but for a short spin to grab an ice cream or coffee? The passenger seat does look quite compact. And if its not really possible to take a passenger then why not change the styling of the rear, why put a passenger seat on it, if you can't take one.

Well it has standard rear footpegs but no grab handles and a very small rear perch as you say....

It's similar in size to the Street Triple R - it's not a huge bike though so you may struggle, best to have a sit on one and see of course....

Been waiting for this Mr Flyer.... looking to change my old 2008 street triple but can't decide on an SV650X (less character, but very cheap)?, a RE Continental 650 (possibly slow, overhyped, but cheap again)? or the Trident (too similar to the street triple)?. I would have included the new Tuono 660 but don't want to pay £10k for a fun bike. Decisions, decisions......
