I just finished RE: Village and it blew me away. I had lowered my expectations after seeing a few non spoiler reviews and I was blown away. I thought RE7 was great too. The ending makes me feel hollow in a good way. Need the next one ASAP.

Agreed with 1. I had zero expectations, thought it'd be lame, started playing and got hooked. I usually do not like that series but 2 remake was awesome so....gave it a shot.

In terms of Guardians, what were your thoughts on Chapter 11, the one that mainly centered on Drax I mean, without spoiling anything. I think it was probably the best use of Drax we’ve ever seen and one of, if not, the most emotional section of game imo 👍🏻💜

Admittedly, Hades gets better when you either play enough to see the larger story, and/or already appreciate ancient Greek lore and mythology. It's the only rogue like I've played, and only because I love hellenistic Greek mythology so much. Their take on the background conflict got me to smile, plus some of the music really got to me.

Resident Evil 7 and 8 have an Alien + Aliens thing going on, where the first one is more straight up pure horror themed, and the second one is more action-horror themed, but both are fucking awesome in their own way. I really can’t put one above the other

Halo combat evolved is the best halo game. It’s the best halo multiplayer with the best multiplayer levels. It also has the second greatest gun in FPS history in the scoped magnum handgun which is absolutely lethal when you get your head round using it

Help 3 campaign gets a lot better when the level design mixes open area with linear shooting.

This should be a very interesting list! Can’t wait to see what’s on here

Call me crazy but I think what God of War 2018 did for the God of War series is the exact same thing Halo: Infinite did for the Halo series. It kept the core gameplay style, made it open world and added innovative improvements and mechanics to the game. I love Halo and I think the story of Infinite is one of the best as it is more of a personal and subtle story of Chief accepting what happened with Cortana and learning from it. Absolutely loved Infinite.

Hades one of my fav games of all time

If you liked Returnal and wanna try another 3rd person Roguelike, I recommend Risk of Rain 2. I played it this year and it's so freaking great. The combat is super unique since there are around 12 different characters that all play very differently. It's a very cheap indie game that can give you around 50 hours of enjoyment if you get into it. It's not as pretty as something like Returnal but it's simple style grows on you. You can also play it in co op.

Great vid Cody, watched every minute. My top 3 are: 3. Ratchet and Clank 2. Deathloop 1. Resident Evil: Village Older games I replayed this year: 3. Age Of Mythology 2. Bully 1. Kingdom Hearts 2(for me it’s top 5 best game of all times and most of it still holds up)

Really cool list! I only played 3 2021 games, but I really liked all of them. RE Village, Sonic Colors and House of Ashes. Agree with everything you said about Village, so good. Sonic Colors was fun, but I already liked it from the Wii version. I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't had any bugs or problems with it. House of Ashes is just a really cool story and a very badass finale, might be my favorite of the Dark Pictures games. I'll definitely sub to your game channel. I hope you're feeling better. Love the list but Village was one of my biggest disappointments of the year, no story at all, and repeative enemies

Resident Evil 8, Hitman 3 and Tormented Souls are my favorite games of 2021.

It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy the other Halo games, Infinite is good, but all the Bungie games are still the best/better if you ask me. The other Halo games aren’t that linear and are more than just hallways, and even if it is more linear that’s not a bad thing. Infinite has less variety in locations and has a similar variety in enemies. Honestly while Infinite’s open world is fine, I don’t think it fits halo, and ODST’s more hub based idea fits it better IMO. As the open world in Infinite could use more side content, and the level based system offered more variety and were lots of fun to go through in those games. You could honestly take just the levels in infinite and make it a halo game if you wanted and I don’t think much of the experience would change aside from the free roam and side content.

I go back and forth between Village and Returnal for my favorite but my #3 is definitely Deathloop. 3 amazing experiences that are completely different.

What you mentioned about Halo….I can’t say I’m excited to play the game someday now. Ever since Halo 4, the Halo series evolves and adapts to what’s popular in gaming for the day which is smart marketing but to me what takes away what Halo was. A great story with entertaining multiplayer. Sure the story’s have been nosediving after Reach and the original trilogy, but that’s to be expected after years. I understand the complaint about it being too linear if you like open World stuff and choices. I like those things too. But Halo has always been about story that you can play with friend on co-op and then also have grand time on-line. So I’m glad you like Infinite, I just don’t know if I will…

A pretty good list Cody my favourite game is halo infinite I have had some much fun with it and with the open world it makes it even better but I want to give a shoutout to mlb the show 21 before halo infinite came out that was my favourite game mostly because of how much fun the game was and that no matter what your skill level is you can just pick it up, play and have a blast.

Nice list mate different to a lot of peoples but that’s what makes yours unique.

I know this is probably going to piss plenty of people off including Cody, but I'm beginning to notice a common theme among the games ranked lower on the list: "I only played for a few hours." Now listen, I understand that life demands lots of time from you, and kids require plenty of that as well. But you really cannot fairly judge a game that you barely bothered to play. Here's an example: my best friend got Bloodborne on ps+ a while back, and reaaaallllly did not like it at all. He tried getting into it multiple times. Each time he played, it was with a new character and for like three hours. Eventually I got him to try it again, and now he's platinumed it and it's literally his favorite game of all time. Again I know you're probably a busy man and I'm not saying you need to play every game for 100+ hours, but maybe don't put games that you hardly played on the list. To me, that isn't fair. But that's just my opinion. By the way I love your content and have been watching for the past few years, so believe me when I say I am not trying to be an asshole or aggravate you. Peace

Excellent video! I myself am a hardcore halo fan the 3rd entry being my 2nd video game of all time after fallout new vegas.I enjoyed halo infinite as a whole and you did great job covering my thoughts of the game. However I was a little disappointed in the fact that it didn't quite propel the storyline in an entirely new direction despite being a competentley crafted one as a whole.Have yet to play the multiplayer but will definitely do so hearing your praises. So yes, I do overall agree with your opinion of it being a good game, It was just small things as a lore nut that I feel like could have been explored more. See Cody I was having a ton of fun with Deathloop when I first got it. All I did was basically camp and wait for people to invade my sessions.

I'm lucky like 4 months before the GTA Remaster was released they had the original PS2 versions on sale for like $10 or $15 a piece. So I got good quality for $15 cheaper. Wooo!

I didn't play alot of games this year if I'm being completely honest. If I were to pick a game of the year I would pick Halo Infinite. The Campaign and Multiplayer are so unbelievably fun. I would have had Resident Evil 8 number 1 if I liked the story better but man I really didn't dig it. Especially the plot twist regarding Mia. It made no sense to me. But I am guilty of beating this game 4 times already so take that as you will.

Any plans for the scream franchise leading up to scream 5??

Haven't played a new game this year

I just didn’t enjoy Village the way I enjoyed RE7. It’s not cause it placed more emphasis on action then horror, I just personally thought it was pretty dull in comparison. Outside of Heisenberg, none of the characters were memorable or interesting to me and I had zero interest in the storyline cuz the whole “Is Chris friend or foe” thread they tried to hook you in with was laughable to me since the first trailer. I liked the opening Village areas and the doll house was interesting but that was it for me. Hitman 3 about the only other game on your list that I’ve played and I loved it. Can’t believe it wasn’t nominated. Glad to hear good things about Far Cry 6,Guardians, and Control. I haven’t gotten to them yet due to my ridiculous backlog lol

Back 4 Blood tried too hard to be Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead allows you to play singleplayer and is simple without having too much mechanics.

If you really like couch co-op games, I highly recommend the Unravel games! I played the second one with my best friend, and we were so hooked by it that we beat it in the first day we played it! They are not very long games, but they’re really fun!

My favorite game of 2021 is far cry 6

My ranking this year: 11. Fifa 22 2/10 - not a soccer fan it was fine but glitchy 10. Control 8.5/10 objectively, 3/10 for me - overated imo bit still solid 9. MLB The Show 21 7.5/10 objectively, 4/10 for me - good game, solid, just not a baseball fan and not a ton of replayability for me 8. Hitman 3 8/10 objectively, 4.5/10 for me - solid, just again not a huge hitman fan. Graphics were fantastic and there was a lot to do but not for me. 7. FNAF: Security Breach 5/10 - glitchy mess. Highs are really high lows are really low. A good first attempt for Steel Wool. Look forward to future games. 6. Forza Horizon 5 6.5/10 - I'm not a big racing fan. Beautiful. Fun. Didn't play much. 5. NBA 2K22 6/10 objectively, 7/10 for me - just didn't feel like much of an improvement to 21. I love basketball and it was fun but just didn't last long for me being a copy and paste of 21 imo. Still good. 4. Twelve Minutes - 7.5/10 - a weird but fun and cool game. Not much more than that. 3. Madden 22 4/10 objectively, 8/10 for me - yeah it does suck for the most part but easily the game I've played the most since it's release. I'm a huge football fan and I do think Madden is trending upwards. 2. Little Nightmares 2 9.5/10 - I feel like normally this game would be #1. I thought it got better in every single category to the original. I loved the ending and it was just fantastic. I wanted to play it again and again when it first came out and it's the only the 2nd game I've spedrun and gotten close to a world record. Fantastic. 1. Resident Evil Village 10/10 - unfortunately for LN2, this game is amazing. Not only the best game of the year but the best RE game imo (yes I know you disagree) but Heisenberg is amazing. Lady D is cool. I loved the horror of Benivientos section. Moreau is fun. I love the game so much overall. It was my introduction to RE which has become one of my fav series that I never had a will to check out until Village. My GOTY. Overall wasn't a great year for games but next year does look hopeful.

I was late coming to the halo party, halo 3 was when I first played it and, like Cody, I was expecting something outta this fuckin world. While it is good, I felt like it wasn't the best thing since sliced bread. Great game but, far from the greatest game ever.
