Today we tackle a big ol' knotty spruce. I show my method of dealing with wavy cuts and how to avoid them. Of course, a day would not be complete without some sort of mechanical break down. Today is the mill's turn. Thankfully a quick fix. Then back to making more sawdust.

Great video. I like that you not only slow down your feed speed to reduce a wavy cut but reduce throttle/blade speed. I never thought of reducing blade speed. Next time you replace your band wheel belts please do a instructional video on that and proper tensioning of the drive belt. Good job. Keep ‘em coming. I’ve learned a lot from you!

If find a 4 degree hook, shallow gullet, heavy set blades work good on spruce, Running the engine slower is good. I don't have the patience to cut real slow

The heavy set plus the slower RPMs really makes a difference. It gives the teeth a chance to keep cutting a straight path. I cut as slow as necessary, so long as it makes for straight cuts.

Don't ask me why, but my wife watches junky Hallmark movies while I watch guys running sawmills. Maybe that is the secret to a happy marriage. Neither of us hassles the other about the stuff we like to watch. :-) Thanks for making the video!

No hassles here either, but usually we are watching Hallmark movies together or we are saw milling together.
