Introductional walkaround with lots of technical details and in-depth close-up video on our 1980 KP62 Hillclimb Toyota Starlet.
This is 2022 specification we run currently in hillclimbs around Europe including some FIA European Championship rounds and German KW Berg-Cup.
Racing history with this car goes back over 20 years. Owner and builder Mikko Kataja built the car in the early 2000 for rally grp F in Finland and rallied several years before moving to time attack and circuit racing and later to hillclimbs. Car was run first time in KW Berg-Cup 2013/2014 and 2014 Mikko won rookie of the year title and second place in the 1600cc class with the old 5k 8V engine and more or less rally specification against purpose build hillclimb machines.
2016 this car conquered Pikes Peak with it's new built 4AGE 16V engine and year later Mt Washington hillclimb in New Hampshire. So we can say that the car has a very unique history seeing winter rallies in Finland, wheel to wheel road racing and time attack and later some really extreme hillclimbs around the world.
There has been so many different evolutions of the car over the years that it would take hours to explain the whole story. Anyway what remains still original is the chassis including the rollcage that was fabricated 2001-2002 by Mikko like the rest of the car. The car was Mikko's final thesis on the racecar mechanics studies. Remarkable is also that no matter where the car has raced, sometimes against much faster cars on the paper it has always succeeded and the throphy collection is quite diverse.
