I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this show format works really well. I like that you talk about one vehicle and then take a viewer question. And the length of the show is great.
Some of the local news channels in the Charlotte area mentioned lowering tire pressure for better traction in the snow. I think it’s a common belief in areas where people don’t have a lot of experience driving in snow. The colder temperatures were enough to trip my tpms light. I checked the pressures and saw they were a few psi low and added air when I stopped for gas that week.
I test drove the GTI. I owned three VW, two GTI, one Jetta, and I forgot how badly the larger wheel bang into road imperfections. The comparison with this and the Golf R makes no sense other than the fact that they share the same components and are in the same family, but they have very different missions
I daily 2016 A3 Sportback. It is a decent car but the new one has less power. I also prefer the interior of the older 8V over the newer 8Y platform since it is clear the cost cutting is there for VW group.
The shifter thing is odd, they didn't save any space by using that selector so why not have a more traditional gear selector? I suppose that's what lux buyers expect now. Between that, the coarse engine noise and the clunky dct, no thanks.
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite RU-vid channel by far. What about driving in a mostly dry environment. Quattro or FWD?
The tire pressure was a good one - never heard that but I do struggle to keep it adequately inflated when the temperature ranges from -4 to 41 in a two day period. It is underinflated at -4 and overinflated at 41 unless I adjust it every couple of days, which is hard to do.
I blacked out the emblem on a car years ago because I like the look. I never heard the end of it from my wife. When I replaced the car, "You're not going to do that again, are you?"
I hope Consumer Reports will delve into the costs of the “mild hybrid” technology. Unlike a real hybrid where the battery has a very extended warranty of years and tens of thousands of miles, the batteries of the “mild hybrid” system are covered by the vehicle 4 year warranty. If the 12V battery goes, the dealer must reprogram the car to inform the alternator a new battery is present: $500. And if the 48V battery goes: $2700. Probably plus a tow into the dealer. This looks likely to mean a $3700 expense every 5 years or so!!
I've always had snowtires mounted on rim at least an inch shorter than OE and gone down a width and up an aspect ratio or two to end up with a narrower tire with roughly the same overall diameter. Going wider doesn't make sense
I just test drove an A3 FWD version and was very impressed . I am considering a 23 A3 FWD with a 18in wheel sport suspension pkg. 38mpg hwy, regular fuel, and is quicker than the numbers reflect ( 201hp/221 torque)....Why? because it also has a new mild hybrid 48 volt battery system which contributes to the acceleration/power. ( this adds 12hp and 37 lb ft of torque upon acceleration for short bursts.....and which is not mentioned in this review). I am looking for a more practical replacement for my 2018 Audi TT Quattro.... I am now retired and in NC and don't feel the need for Quattro. I am also considering a 23 BMW 2 series RWD 2 door w/M Sport pkg, 23 Mercedes CLA250 FWD w/ AMG line sport pkg , and a new MK8 VW GTI.....
You are right . My little A3 2020 can put fear into cars with higher hp and has a fantastic pick-up .I couldn’t believe, it just launched itself one day with a scream of tyres.
I've owned the B5 A4, B6 A4 3.0, B7 S4 V8 (yes, with the moronic timing belt at the firewall that requires engine removal), B8 A4, B9.5 - all Quattro. The A3 has a Haldex fwd "quattro" that is basically a rebadged VW awd. Quattro with torsen diff is a true Audi awd system that, imo, works better in all conditions. I'm done with Audi because the new infotainment and hvac controls are laughably bad. The dual screens aren't going to cut it. Still beautiful cars but the lack of proper human interface is not luxury car material and I don't need to impress anyone with screens per square inch of dashboard.
@@Mabeylater293 Audi has come a long way when it comes to reliability. The B5 was known for its unreliability, the B7 he spoke about was a nightmare because of its timing chain, the B8 S4’s DSG transmission wasn’t reliable either. But by 2013 Audi had figured out most of their issues and surpassed the other Germans when it came to reliability. Even CR gave them praises.
When you talked about competition you only considered 2 series GS and didn't even talk about the most fun car in this class at least to me the new BMW 240.
+1 Audi AG has been loosing money at the gaming tables & the horse track .... Audi's big $ loses show in the A3 interior materials! .. The KIA, Subaru Legacy 2.4t competition kills the '22 A3 offering. ..
By the way there only being as nice as they are to this thing because it's an Audi. If they slapped a Mitsubishi or a Yaris badge on it you'd have to coax young Alex there from under the bed
I like this group much better than either the weird neckbeard hipster, the Israeli with all the weird Tourette's twitches who says "uh between uh every uh word uh", and the Boomer with all the Boomer dad jokes. Of course in a perfect setup I would trade out the gen Xer on the far left for the Young tire guy who always looks startled every time they call on him. He looks like he's getting more comfortable and less awkward now more than he did. Keep up the good work guys!
