Brook Gardens is an 8-acre affordable housing community in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Project partners began working in 2019 to improve the outdoor spaces at Brook Gardens, along with a significant interior rehabilitation. The project was centered around and co-created with residents to create a community space where residents can thrive. Prior to project implementation, the outdoor area had turf grass with few shade trees. It now houses 11 rain gardens, a native planting, 19 new shade trees, picnic tables, nature play, and accessible pathways through the rain gardens.
