People need to stop placing the ZR2 in the same class as the TRX and Raptor. for baja style running is definitely fitted for Ford and Ram whereas the slower crawl type terrain is suited for the ZR2. This video does well showing that.
Given its competed in the Baja class since 2019 and finished all races sometimes besting trophy trucks, it's a superior direct competitor. Give it more speed and those shocks adapt
@@soup3504 ZR2 is the superior truck. Different Engineering philosophy. It can tow like a truck, crawl like a rock crawler, and run all out on the desert. Non of the others are good at anything other than being wider.
Seems like everytime Ben does an off-road comparison the parameters are different for each truck....keep some uniformity and run all 3 trucks in 4H w/wo paddles so there's no caveats. LOVE SEEING THE 3 TRUCKS IN ACTION 🔥🔥
Isn’t the point that you want to use the best option on each one? If one of the trucks doesn’t have that option then it’s inferior, the entire point is to find out which one’s better, no?
Chevy just showed flashy is not always best. Tried and true is the best way. And it does off roading very well and is more narrow so you do not need to worry about smacking the sideview mirrors as much. More than enough truck and still is a work truck unlike the other two. I would take the cheapest truck and still make money off of it.
Thank you for driving all 3 back to back, the Zr2 is what 90% of the people who think they are baja champions will ever need, the actual drivers will go for the Raptor because it handles better than all 3 and has enough engine, the TRX is typical Dodge. Make a giant heavy Brick and throw a giant engine in it. It's fun, but not as complete. Watching all 3 you can just see the weight of the TRX, the sharp handling of the Raptor, and the simple and effective approach of the ZR2. I would like to see wider 35s on the zr2 and run it again. Great video today
@@51AB that's something that can be fixed with using a different set of shocks. but do go on with you ur fallacy of the craptor being better. When it's not. Smaller tires wayyyy slower. Lolol
@@dmegahan TRX is in 4 auto initially, 4 high would be a selection you’d have to make. The truck will be a bit more aggressive and put power down with less of its “bains” involved in 4H vs 4 auto. Better for going hard.
in part 2 the new zr2 I think will be best. not only is it not as wide for if you like to tackle small trials, its also got front and rear lockers which neither the trx or raptor have. I'm really excited for a part 2 to see how everything works out! great video btw
The TRX LOOKS Amazing but I still want to see how it does in the BAHA 1000. The Raptor has been tested and has proven that it can handle the race so now I’m waiting on Dodge to put the TRX To the test
@@redbeardsflippedodometer7279 stock class Ford did. Are you trying to get ultra technical because no manufacturers can enter a stock truck with no roll cage and factory glass etc? Ford puts factory chassis, motor, driveline, suspension body etc truck through the 1000
@@Falcon-mc5fs really? There was a Toyota that was in the stock class. Currently there is the hall zr2’s that compete. And they finish… about 50-100% slower than everyone else. But still, haven’t heard of a stock raptor being run, factory backed or not.
💪 Cool video!!! ZR2 is for Overlanding, that’s why you need more weight carry capabilities. Raptor and TRX are more like Rally Raid. Well, in my opinion rocks and ruts are not in a good combination with high speed. A guy in our group has a Raptor and in mud and snow it’s never the best car.
@@DonMr-Sir I’m going to guess he didn’t have the factory installed Borla exhaust on the ZR2. Having that would definitely bring out the beautiful sound of that 6.2
@@BenHardyCars Minor correction of the video: a twin turbo V6; engine, turbo, intercooler, downpipe, weighs just as much or more than a aluminum block, aluminum head, cam in block, naturally aspirated small block V8. TWO other points the TRX has 18 inch wheels vs the Raptor's 17 inch wheels and RAM's part supplier couldn't supply progressive rate coil springs. The Colorado ZR2 has long travel DSSV shocks, etc in the GM Performance catalogue so maybe the Silverado will too.
It has to be a Raptor for me, it’s been out for over a decade. Everyone always complains about the Ecoboost sound and to each their own but there is a reason why a 3.5L Ecoboost also went into the half million dollar GT…
So many people in the comments making excuses for the Chevy. On a trail, the 37 equipped Raptor has better angles and more ground clearance, as well as more suspension travel. The difference in width and a 2nd locker does not make up that difference. Neither truck is equipped to take on trails where a 2nd locker would matter anyway.
GM has for a long time creating trucks that are capable but still everyday users. The Silverado SS is an example. Can still tow well, good payload, good power and AWD for everyday weather. The lightning and SRT10 gave up a ton of these things.
Yep, understandable.."braking"..but you have to be very good at it to make the most of it and then probably not as good as the truck will do it itself, especially on the upshift. Had Raptors for ten years and live in Nevada...plenty of fast trails here, but now I'm older. Power Wagon GT, now...Grandpa Truck.
As someone who does it for a living, never do that type stuff in the TRX in 4 auto. The TRX is so much faster with high and you dont have to wrangle it near as much.
Good video. This popped up in suggested videos just ran across your channel. I do like a real world look at things just like any old Joe blow would be blowing down the back roads. A friend of mine got the ZR two last week here in Texas and he complains about those non-functional ugly humps on the ZR2 hood after riding with him I can definitely tail they are in the way especially coming up and over a hill. That raptors weird little sound almost sounds like a little teenagers Honda Civic taking off at a red light. 😎
Not sure if that is really true considering both of the other trucks have by far the better suspension and dampening system. TRX maybe because it's heavy might be forcing a little bit, but the Raptor is light and agile and well balanced.
good video and new sub here. With the ZR2, should have had it in tow mode for better auto shifts. For folks that buy these type of trucks, no judgement here but for those that want trx/raptor/zr2 + type of performance should consider a stock 1500GM, F150, or Ram with new upper control arms, Kings or foxes @ each corner, 17/18" wheels, high quality 35's, Deaver J1's under factory leafs, upgraded brakes and you're well over 75% of the way there. Tune/tweak the factory engine & trans as your tolerance, ability, and warranty allow and actually drive the truck hard! I'm a do-it-yourself and learn as you go type of guy so I can't imagine spending TRX/Raptor/zr2 money on a brand new truck and taking it out and bashing it when you can get there with less money and have fun researching, building, and customizing the truck. I have to warn you, it is quite addictive though! I did this with my '16 LTZ, 6.2 with kings and other bits and don't regret a thing. Ultimately building it out to be a pre-runner, overlander, bug-out truck. IYKYK🤐 Keep up the good work Ben! Cheers.
I'm with 'ya with the suspension but I'm leaving my engine with a stock tune. I'm currently saving for a complete suspension upgrade. I'm doing shocks, struts and upper control arms. (while I I'm saving, I'll figure out which parts I actually want) While I"m leaving my engine with a stock tune, I am getting a much bigger intercooler. You get back enough horse power to feel the difference with just an intercooler upgrade. This is because the intake charge will now stay cool enough that the ecu never has to pull timing and boost due to heat.
Seriously…how many people actually baja vs. almost any other form of off-roading? How many folks live anywhere close to these baja courses? ZR2 seems so much more practical for the majority of guys just wanting to play off-road.
people don't really shop for Raptors and TRX's for your typical overlanding experience. These trucks were made for youtubers and car channels to goof around in and gain bragging rights. Someone looking at a ZR2 would also be considering a Ram Rebel or F150 Tremor or TRD Off Road/Pro Tundra
The Raptors the best of the three in my opinion. Ford really has the suspension and chassis dialed in with it, the Raptor just lacks in the sense that it doesn't offer a nice V8 with all that chassis refinement, hopefully this issue will be remedied with the upcoming Raptor-R that will have the 5.2L Supercharged Voodoo V8 from the Shelby GT-500 Mustang. The Ram is cool, but its like you said...It's a hammer, the Raptor is nimble and has finesse, the TRX is just a brute that plows its way through the terrain. The ZR2...Its, just an inbetweener, Its got a V8 which people will love in this kind of truck, but its a V8 that is less powerful than Fords turbo V6 and WAY less powerful than the Supercharged 6.2L Hemi in the TRX, honestly the ZR2 just seems like something GM cobbled together so they could at least say they were in the race with the Baja Sport truck segment.
You should drive one. Your impressions would change. They did a lot with less, as they intended. They never built to to be a Raptor or TRX competitor. People are making that assumption on their own. The fact that it hangs with them speaks more for the ZR2 than anything.
@@MLCIT I wish I could cut GM that slack but they had to have known that the ZR2 was going to be compared to both the Raptor and TRX which is why I consider it more of name toss to say they're in the race at least. If they didn't intend for it to be a competitor to either of those trucks they should have been more clear about in the marketing because everything about the ZR2 eludes to its being the same type of vehicle. I would say its more of a FX4/Rebel competitor but GM already has the Trail Boss to fill that position. But maybe someday I'll get the chance to drive one and I can form a better opinion, I'm just calling it as I see it right now.
The Voodoo engine is the one in the GT350, the GT500 has the more powerful Predator engine, which I believe is the one that will be going in the Raptor R
Please don’t call this high speed. The raptor is capable of 80mph+ through this trail and I could literally drive my 09 1500 Sierra with old crappy suspension at the pace you drove those trucks
The raptor and trx are way too expensive for the normal person. But the ZR2 is a little bit affordable, just a little... On the other hand , I can't wait for the 2024 Silverado ZR2 DIESEL... One request, test it!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Its so funny he says they are all close but if you watch the speedo while doing the course the raptor and trx are going almost 20mph faster than the Chevy. Of course its turning in better its going slower. It would have crashed if he went same speed as the other two trucks. this guy is a clown.
I just ordered a ZR2. What kind of lift should I be looking for? Think I want to use 37’s but I don’t want to lose the stock suspension system. Would it be a body lift?
Should never do a body lift if you're actually going to go off road imo. If you don't plan on it, then a body lift would work, but a suspension lift is always going to be better.
i drive a 2018 2nd gen raptor and have 2023 3rd gen that will be here in 6 months and man you really underdrove that truck and shouldn't have had it in Manuel you had a lot of mishsift. and ford recommends auto even in baja mode
I just got rid of a TRX, and have had a raptor for the last 3 months. If anyone is saying that the TRX is a better truck, I'll have what you're having. The gas mileage was literally 9mpg and even though that's not the reason you purchase it it becomes a big deal. The my raptor gets double the gas mileage and for those who say that the exhaust sounds like crap, don't one and has never heard one. It doesn't sound as good as the TRX but I'll take the gas mileage and the resale value 10 out of 10 times. Not to mention the truck just feels better driving it on the road.
Gas mileage? If you can afford a TRX I wouldn't think gas mileage would matter that much. I own a newer F150 with the regular output 3.5 Ecoboost and I agree the mileage is phenomenal compared to my previous three Rams with just the 5.7 Hemi and considerably more powerful.
@@BamaTidefan1967 Girl just stops with all the lies. If he said what he said then just accept it for what it is. The majority of the things that I've heard in online reviews is that it's a hungry beast just like the Mustang GT500. I don't know anyone that thinks that's okay unless you live close to a trail to rock climb. At high speeds, your fun is cut short PERIOD.
@@BamaTidefan1967 Help me understand this. Which gas prices don't matter that much? The $2-3/gallon of yesterday? The $4-5/gallon of today? Or the $8-12/gallon of tomorrow once more EV's are on the market in few years and the Lib's in power begin tax penalizing gas prices higher and higher to force us into EV's like is already happening in Europe? Yes a Prius is more economical but that's dipshit logic because it's an offroad truck you buy it because you need to go offroading not because you need a need a mall crawling street vehicle that you probably only like because it's big and badass looking which must be the perspective of your framing here for such logic to make any sense to you.
If you close one or two valves or two cylinders technologically to avoid high consumption of gasoline or diesel, you will damage the engine because the problem of high consumption is no longer related to the weight and mass of the vehicle, which will be a constant variation. not technologically modifiable, so the technology would help a bit in that case but also whenever you want to save fuel in the 2022 Chevrolet ZR2 I do not recommend that you do it, because you will end up forcing the V8 more than necessary, which in the end is not worth it grief. 2022 Ford F-150 has a V6 under the hood and it is the best pickup in world, I think that. Thank you. Dr. Luis Amador
La neta no entendi ni madres 😅 soy mexicano pero me gusto tu video, me metí por que estoy indeciso en comprar una raptor o una trx? Cual me recomiendas
Like the haters say about the new tundra. The v6 in the raptor is trash. Garbage because it dont have a na v8. Lets see if they have the same noise towards the raptor. Or will they forget its a v6.
Yep that's why everyone hated the Grand Nash turbo V6's don't belong in muscle cars or big trucks. Checks to see the value of Grand Nationals selling for $60,000.........Oh wait.
37's vs 35's vs 33's great comparison 🤣 Also so for all you ladies (saying about the TRX) what's the point of the all that extra horsepower if you can't use it sounds alot like when dudes with little wiwis say what's the point of it being bigger if you "can't use it" 🤣🤣🤣
From 2019 and up, Chevy pick up trucks look so embarrassing. They are so basic with no design. Why the hell do the headlights look like the design team just agreed with anything last minute. F150s and Rams look and feel so much better. Chevy should go under
Raptor still the king. Ben obviously struggled more driving the TRX. What good is all that hp if you can't use it?? Chevvy not even close. Wait for an aftermarket lift to fit 35s when a Raptor can come standard with 37s.
the only real disappointment the Zr2, to me at least is the powertrain. A supercharged 6.2 with the aggressive sound of the TRX and it would be awesome. As is the zr2 more competes with a Tremor f150 and a ram rebel. Its not in the same league as the TRX or Raptor.
Honestly I know of one too many people that have experience the infamous GM Lifter issue.. For that alone I would not touch the ZR2 at all.. Raptor seems like the truck for me.
This is a dirt road. Not a great challenge here. Been on this road a 100 times with a Tacoma at higher speeds lol go push these things. This doesn’t mean a lot
I just can’t with that raptor engine. Not only long term do I not trust the ecoboost (personally owned one) but that sound is annoying. I did order a TRX so let’s see how that goes
Cool, but in a few years once more EV's are on the market and the Libs in government tax penalize gas up to $8-12/gallon to force us into EV's because utopian society you aren't going to be able to afford to keep your gas truck as long as I will my Raptor. This is already happening in Europe we are next. It's a topic guys don't like to talk about because they don't like what's coming in the future but ignoring reality doesn't make it go away.
It does not matter which truck handles better if I even wanted to purchase one right now I could not unless I bought something used in abused in the next fact in one year you will not be able to buy any of them
