I blame you for my flower seed addiction. 🤣. I have ordered 1000’s of flower seeds this year. I am developing a cut flower section at my garden centre this summer. Even if they don’t sell, I’ll grow them all myself. Love your videos. Thanks for the inspiration.
lol, I blame her too. I live in an apartment and I already have most of my space taken up growing veggies, but I'm making my husband build me another growing box so I can grow more flowers XD
Nicole, your videos always cheer me up. I started a donation based flower stand last year after a winter of binge watching your videos. It was a booming success in my small town. Watching your content gave me the push I needed to follow my passion for growing flowers and veggies into a dream. I love knowing their are others out there that love growing like I do. Wishing you a great success for this growing season❤️
I would love to know more about your donation flower stand, if you don’t mind sharing!! Where did you put it, how did you do a money box, did you say “donation”…..????? Thanks
Nicole, re the delphiniums- check out Sarah's video at Bloom and Gray from last year about starting delphiniums. I've never been able to grow them before, but with her method I had about 80% success! A bit fussy, and VERY slow to produce true leaves, but they grew, and some bloomed first year! The rest are are tucked in the gardens and happy.
No, no, no. My seed order is done, everything is under my grow lights - don't do this to me. I came across your channel a few weeks ago and I'm hooked. Really enjoy your quirky sense of humor and am impressed with your talent(s). Fan for life!
Nicole- I seeded about 100 Chabaud Carnations last summer and I got ONE decent stem that really wasn't anything fantastic. I actually laughed at what a miserable failure they were. I'm not wasting my space on anymore carnations. I'm not sure why mine failed?!? I did successfully grow some in planters because I carelessly sprinkled the rest of the seeds in mixed flower planters and they actually grew in those, but not to a stem length for cut flower bouquets. I'm sticking with what grew so fantastically for me- Dahlias, peonies, zinnias, snaps, roses, penstemon, rudbeckia, Phlox, Nigella, scabiosa, and eucalyptus.
Nicole, because of your channel I discovered Baker Creek seeds...I'll be growing the transplants for two other vegetable gardens, besides my own and any leftover seedlings will be sold on weekends at my friend's farmer's market stall.
I pulled blacked eyed Susans and white daisies planted by the previous homeowners and am planing Queen Red with Blotch Zinnia, and Green envy &, Red lime blush, zinnias . I’m obsessed with them.
I grew snapdragons the first time last year. I hope I am more successful this year. I may need to also get some annual phlox seeds. I had not realized how wonderful they smell until you had mentioned it. That light blue ageratum looks so dreamy. Looking forward to seeing that blue sweet pea.
Crap!! I swore I was Done 😁 But Now you showed me some I Have to Have!! 😂 + I’m lucky enough to be in the grow along!! I can see it coming - me knocking on the neighbors door asking if I can plant flowers in their pasture ‘cuz I’m out of room!🤣 But so FUN!!!
I used the Thai Blue Butterfly Pea to dye vodka and gin for Christmas gifts for my neighbors! Turned out great, they all loved it! It's a beautiful vine and not overpowering like some vines can be! I am definitively growing it again!
🤣 I love your varieties! I am cracking up over your yep I have to have all the seeds unapologetic attitude!🤓 I’m the same way about my seeds! Thanks for sharing!
I grew the ostrich feather asters last year - you're in for a treat!!! They're stunning 😍😍 Love your new selection, and thanks for getting me through my ironing! x
Not sure what your problem was with growing Delphinium(one of my favorites), but I had great success "winter sowing" them in milk jugs last year. I ended up with about 40 plants from one jug.
Every time I see your beautiful pups I smile. I also have two blue shar-pei sisters. One is 3 years old and the other just turned one. They have the same mom, but different dads. They are truly amazing dogs. Funny coincidence lol. By the way, my husband blames you and Laura (Garden Answer) for my seed addiction this year lol. I just can’t help myself. Love your videos. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing your life and gardening knowledge with us.
You have inspired me soo much in the last year. I'm doing a cut flower garden (for myself and family/friends) this year. I hope I'm at least half as successful at getting things to grow as you are ❤
Watching al the gorgeous flowers you are going to grow and imagine just how much happiness they are going to bring with your Bouquets to your customers and those you donate flowers to ❤️
I now feel vindicated in my seed order. I have looked over my cart to try and whittle it down, as I sit with abox of seeds i already have 😏, but there are things, you know THINGS, i want to grow. 😊😊
I am sure you are aware the rudbeckia trilobas act like biennials, and are prolific self seeders. No problem weeding out seedlings, but many people don't connect what the seedlings look like versus the mature plants. There is a fair amount of difference from a first year seedling versus the foliage of the mature plant. They are a great garden border plant and offer prolific (thousands and thousands of blooms) and the seed heads are a wonderful dried arrangement plants as well. Keeping them where I want them-- not always easy. The seem to want to move front and center for me rather than being part of a supporting cast and filler. They make a great arrangement bunched on their own. Rabbits seem to leave them alone. I think deer do, too. Don't plant them inside the fence! Full sun where they can do as they like!
i bought 3 bunny tails plant last year...it was hard each time it rain... they got cover with mud... but omg they are sooo beautiful dry... i love them
Hey Nicole , your hair is super cute. Hope Brad and the kids are well. Thanks for the seed update. I ordered many of the same seeds. Looking forward to growing with you and the flower fam ❤️🌷💐
I literally have thousands of seeds from Bakers Creek. Vegetables, herbs, flowers. I hope and pray the best for success. Thank you for your encouragement.
Fyi Northeast Poultry Congress in Springfield,MA @Big E is this Saturday 15th thought of you and your lovely chickens.... looks like an awesome way to spend a Saturday 🥰 🐔
You have made me want to plant flowers for the first time this year. Last year I had a vegetable garden for the first time. I’m continuing that and expanding it. But today I just built lots of beds for flowers 💐 . I just want to grow them cause they are pretty and when I want to give a Bouquet of flowers to someone I can cut them.
I have to get me some more snap dragons. I ordered more flower seeds this year so far than I ever have. I'm getting the flower bug lol I have my cut flower bed ready and starting my seeds as soon as this snow storm leaves. I don't want to start them n the power go out n loose them all. Thanks Nicole you're awesome.
Monday, I pressed the button on my Johnny's shopping cart. I, too, ordered a few snapdragons. I also ordered Limon for an interesting filler. It sparkles. I also ordered a China aster in a lovely blue and white. Ooh, I now want to look into the Chantilly series. They look like azaleas. I don't know the difference among all those varieties. I usually looked for the rocket series at my local nursery because I wanted tall blooms for cutting. My goodness. I'm yawning so much.
Well, I learned about yarrow last year. It needs about 6 years to germinate/grow! BUT I bought a couple of Proven Winners peach yarrow and it was very healthy. I was SHOCKED to see how much growth those seedlings grew at the end of the summer! No blooms, but really big plants. SO, learn all you can about the plants you are germinating. I am in zone 8, SE coastal NC
Thanks for sharing all of your processes and tips! I'm researching to start my own flower farm and taking notes based on your videos. You keep my attention because you are so animated and hilarious! Love your videos, so inspiring and you make it fun but keep it real. Thank you thank you thank you!!
Okay, so I’m a total veggie seed addict however last year I started wandering into the flower section and this year I’ve definitely wandered a bit further. That story about you buying seeds for your sister from Baker Creek was too perfect. I rewound it so my husband could hear it and I said “See! She gets it! Imagine if you could have so much joy for only $20 at Home Depot with free shipping!”😄. I went to place an order at another place but when I see $8 for shipping I think “that’s 2 seed packets that I could get from Baker Creek”(I really do have a problem, don’t I). Great video, thank you for sharing! Now I’m off to check out your veggie seed haul.
Ahhhh this is so inspiring. I'm still in the "clear a half acre 15 feet tall brambles and nettles" stage of my flower farm and don't think I'll be planting much this season, so I am living vicariously. With the older phlox, I'd seed heavily as I've had poor germination with year-old seed in my home garden. I just love your videos, every one makes my day.
@@joannenardoni17 I love that idea! The land is a pretty funny piece, there's a fairly sheer 10 foot drop from the road to the flat part of the land so I had counted out machinery, but if they had a digger on that big tractor they might be able to make themselves a path! xx
i‘ve had amazing luck growing carnations, delphiniums and foxglove with the winter sowing method. pop them somewhere cold/freezing. as long as they get water from rain or snow you can forget about them until its time to plant them out in the landscape….
I didn’t see the flamingo feather celosia (you got some from Gina for one of your bouquet bars). Maybe I missed it. I have been buying seeds since September last year almost every week!!! Soon as I saw they have inventory of what I like I bought it right away. And the seeds I purchased from baker creek I was able to buy before they raised their prices. I have tons of seeds and I only have a front & backyard. But I’m happy so I regret NOTHING!!!!
Flamingo Feather is one of dozens of celosia I still have leftover from last year! This video was mostly just the new ones. I'll go over the others in detail when I start seeds etc...SO MANY SEEDS! I also regret nothing LOL
I love bunny tails!!!! Can't wait to see how they do for you, would love to grow them myself. Bunny tails are used a lot in rustic decor, just love it.
I have a tip to help you organize your flower seeds. If you hang a plastic sandwich baggie on a makeshift clothes line with a clothes clip (dollar store) then you can label "Snapdragon", "Sunflower", etc. then take handfuls of packets and drop em in a bag like teachers set up Valentine Card distribution. I then group filled sandwich bags into a Gallon Zip Lock- YOU can label that bag "Fillers", "Thrillers" or "Spillers" Or just list the bags inside or inventory- Bag "A", "B" blah blah blah...moist. Hee hee
Amazing video, me and my fiancé are moving and buying a homesteading/farmer’s market farm in Kentucky in june and have bought a ton of seeds … i think I’m addicted to seed collecting.., lol …. We can’t wait to moved and get sees in the ground…
FRIENDLY REMINDER! While watching this video, do your best to RESIST BUYING ALL THE SEEDS!! good Luck! 🤣 Thanks Nicole for another great video! Now excuse me while I see if I can order some more seeds from geo..... 😅
Hey Nicole! If you want to blow yourself away....put some peppers inside your hoop house! They are wimps and the difference between I side and out is amazing. I had the ends off and they grew beautifully!
If you're ever interested in organizing your seeds. Those photo cases work wonders! I use 3, one for winter veggies, one for summer veggies and one for flowers. Michael's, hobby lobby or Amazon usually carry them. They may help you out :)
I have those! Lots of people love them for sure. I have too many of each for anything real organization of them I’d need three just for the sunflowers 🤣
Nice collection! I wish we could sit around and chat about our seed haul/upcoming season. Wed be the best of flower friends haha🙂. Good luck seed starting this year. Wishing you the best!
The macarenia zinnia is really beautiful but it’s much lower growing than other varieties just as a heads up! Love your channel!! Hello from Houston! 👋🏻
I'm ohhh-ing and aww-ing over all those rudbeckia varieties. Guess what I'll be doing after finishing your video. Ordering seeds. Haha. You are so fun to watch.
The only crop I ever started from seed were foxgloves (years ago). They never self sowed in my garden, so it was (and is) the same process every year...start from seed, plant out, watch the foliage grow and the plant get established, get snowed on (etc.) flower the following year...repeat. When the plant is done, I save some seeds, dig up the old plant to replace with the new seedling. I have had foxgloves in my garden for as long as I can remember. It was years later I started to grow other flowers from seed...but it all started with foxgloves. Don't give up...they should self-seed very well in your area. Maybe plant them off to the side near your woodland area and let them do their thing. Cheers!
I dont feel so bad with my seed "issue" now 😀. I'm in the UK and have a double allotment, I'm dedicating half of it to cut flowers, its quite addictive! Not sure if you can get these in the US but I've just ordered Brighton Rock Snap dragons, they look amazing, the other one that I think you will like is Frosted explosion Panicum Elegans, again they look amazing . . . . will let you know how I get on. Thank you for your vid's your fuelling my inspiration. take care x
Bare Mtn Farm has a really good video about getting tall bunny tails!! Maybe try planting them in the hoop house? Also, I grew the purple red strawflower last year and it is so amazing!
Nicole!! All the flowers you have trouble getting started are cool flowers 💐 I think you mentioned you took the flower farming course with Lisa Mason Ziegler. Fall sow those babies or better yet, winter sow them. Dianthus, carnation and delphinium are stupid easy to start using winter sowing. I’m in 6b in Canada. Zero issues with those using WS. Loooved seeing all your new seeds. Happy dreaming flower friend 😊
Okay Nicole, I thought I was done ordering seeds!! After watching this, there are many more I NEED to order. I’ve been meaning to try statice and that sunflower/statice bouquet of yours convinced me! So pretty! Thanks for encouraging my seed hoarding! 😉 🌱
Ok, I just went through the comments and nobody has talked about this. Azureus Blue Sweet Pea is very different from any other sweet pea I’ve grown, (and I stopped counting at around 65 varieties.) I’ve grown them for 2 years now and they are lovely but not what most people would expect. Enjoy them for what they are. They don’t fit into the mold exactly. Observe the differences as you grow them. The seeds are shaped different, the vine/foliage looks different (fine, wispy tendrils), the growth habit is shorter than what one normally would expect from a sweet pea. The blooms are an incredible blue, but smaller than you might expect from looking at the Baker Creek picture. I have used some in my bouquets, but more as the “spiller” or airy accents, winding tendrils around a sturdier stem in the bouquet. (And not too many, or it just looks messy.) Anyway, have fun and happy growing! Hope this helps someone !😊💐
I'm glad you are going to try delphinium. I've thought about your cool weather, that it might be just perfect for growing it. I hope they take off. I've never grown them before, want to very much.
Well, it's 10 p.m. here and I can't stop yawning, stop it!!! You need a team for organizing, a team for planting and a team for cutting all those flowers!!!!!!! Just take care of yourself:)))
Thank you so much I love all of your content love the seed hauls and I’m the same I’m a soaper just getting into flowering and I’m the same way go hard or go home my soaping studio is huge can’t wait for this new journey to over take lol enjoy your. day and keep the content coming I’m learning so much
So bummed, snapdragon seeds not available till April 2023 (unless you want a HUGE pack)..oh well, at least I can plan. I had so much good luck with flowers last year, I think I'd rather start and grow them! I'll let my husband deal with tomatoes, etc LOL.
Will be curious to hear what you think of the Azurius Blue sweet pea. I was disappointed with how small the plants and flowers were, but hopefully yours are better.
