Happy World Wildlife Day! We celebrate and support wildlife all around the globe, but today we're sharing a conservation story that's a little closer to home.
Last summer, we raised, marked, and released more than 130 endangered gopher frogs back into the North Carolina Sandhills. Habitat degradation, long-lasting droughts, and invasive fire ants have decimated this rare and secretive frog; in fact, it's thought that as few as 500 exist in the wild today.
With assistance from our partner, @NCWildlifeResourcesCommission, we're working to ensure the continuation of this species. Hop along and prosper, little frogs! 🐸
