free game, excepts near the corners, they cannot make a run inside the delimited areas , only one point every time they go inside and they must go outside, to makke the game harder to play
Hi Pepe, I challenge you to try to make a run of 100; you will find out how difficult this game really is. Yes, of course it is boring to watch when sitting in the audience, but the game has much more in it than you are watching here. The goal is to gather the balls as quickly as possible and get them into "serie americaine" position, which already is an endeavor for many players. So it is absolutely not ridiculous at all in my opinion. As we all know, the classic game types are dying out, because all attention goes to 3 cushion already which provides more amusement for spectators, but still a lot of players practice the free game over here in Holland. It would be a shame to see the classical games disappear totally and only 3 cushion will remain. And if free game is too boring for you, try to play balkline 38/2 or 47/2. Even more tactical and challenging! (Search for Raymund Swertz for those balkline videos, he is a true master.)
Actually, this discipline is a real art. 1st things first, you must be able to master all types of queue handling, queue action, and types of shots, Retro’ Masse’ The seemingly easy but actually hard thing to do, trust me, is calculate the trajectory of the balls that you’re hitting so that they continue to stay together and tight and in favourable position so that u won’t lose position on next shot, so that you can have an easy run of just tapping the balls to the cushion up and down. It’s very easy to mess things up and not have a long run. It’s relaxing to play, and yes, at times can be lengthy, and not as visually rewarding as 3 cushion, but it’s just as beautiful to play and I think it requires more touch and feel, finesse and precision imo I love 3 cushion a lot by the way, and snooker too. ;)
