Now that said I've had issues with the oil pump drive belt (yes its a thing), and when they had everything back together from that a boost hose didn't go back on correctly and caused some issues when under load and acceleration. Got it put back and it runs like a top. I gotta say I'm not fan of the "wet belts" Ford runs.

@@johnjacob688 yes, even as primary vehicles. Most people don't need trucks anyways. An SUV would be the better choice most of the time if you need a family hauler that also tows around some toys. Most people commute all by themselves. A single cab is all that's necessary at least 50% of the time for people who actually need trucks. That fact people are buying in excess of their needs is thanks to salesmen pushing for that bigger sale, and as more sales of crew cabs were being sold, they put more on the lot. With most people being those who take convenience over most other things, they'll buy a more expensive crew cab on the lot before they'll place an order on the single cab they need and wait for it. They wanna drive it home TODAY....So the market has been manipulated by pushy salesmen and lazy, convenience-driven people, rather than by actual necessity.

There is a new generation of people who want such a small truck, as well as the old timers who valued their small Rangers. Some people just need a trunk that is bigger than you can get in a car/suv; not particularly a "truck need" type person, so the compact truck works for them. I personally don't see why someone would get a new Ranger over an F-150 since there is so little difference in size between the two. Then again, I also don't understand paying for a house and getting a truck instead. I remember when I started at Ford in 1992 and you could get a truck for $8,500. @dposcuro
@dposcuro 3 года назад
I kind of doubt there is much of a market for a 2 door compact truck. Considering the that 1/2 ton Regular Cab market is fucking miniscule. Hell, Ram doesn't even offer the new 1500 in a regular cab model! GM only off Yes, you and a couple of your buddies may want a Regular cab, compact truck, but you don't represent much. GM only offers their half ton twins in a Reg cab, long box, and their midsize doesn't offer a Reg cab. Ford is the only one of the big three to still offer a Reg Cab short bed in the F150. According to this article ( www.motorbiscuit.com/in-2020-regular-cab-pickups-have-almost-no-sales/ ), regular cab pickups make up 3% of the US truck market, and 1% of the Canadian truck market. The bulk of that is going to be fleet sales, selling stripper trucks, for little profit. So where are all these people who want regular cab, work trucks? GM and Ford still make them, but they aren't selling for shit. Probably because so few people these days have the funds necessary to buy two brand new vehicles; let alone have space to park them. No one really wants a stripper work truck as their DD. No one really wants to deal with manual windows, and manual locks, every day. No one needs an 8 foot bed anymore. No one, except the smallest sliver of the market, who want a truck so cheap, that it cannot be sold at a price that will recoup its own development costs. So why should these companies cater to this market? By the way, I own a 2016 GMC 1500 Reg Cab, Longbox, 4x4. I am part of that very market.

There’s still a few good trucks to be had under $30k. I was able to pickup a new 2021 Tacoma SR5 i4 w/ appearance package for $28,000. My last truck was a lower trim GMC Canyon for $23,000. I see Colorados in the WT trim w/ appearance packages for $25,000. It just depends on what kind of capability you need and what you consider a must have. For a lot of people, a lower level engine and 2wd meet 95% of what they need. The problem is “want”. Everyone wants the super nice interior, v6/v8, 4wd, etc. those things add to cost quickly. Obviously the above isn’t true if you live in environment or tow a boat where you need the power. Hell I was seeing 2020 Silverado WT Customs go for $29,000 a few months back. Everyone always say “I just want a cheap, basic truck” but no one buys them.

Could call the compact Jeep pickup the Wagoneer - despite the unfortunate fact it isn't a wagon. Nobody makes wagons anymore and I strongly dislike that fact. Ford is totally going to miss the mark. 4 door unitized body and a small suv size bed. Yuck! Agree with most below two door and 6 1/2 bed. Low Price!!!! Give me a rubber floor, crank windows and a metal interior roof. That's a pickup truck. An F100 use to be cheaper than the cheapest car. F100 was less money than a pinto!!! When I bought my 1985 Ranger S even a rear bumper was an option. Pickup trucks are for work. Not a 4-door Lincoln with a pickup bed.

In South América Fiat Toro is “sailing” alone with no competitors and is a huge market for just One small size truck

Hopefully they make a single cab variant. I loved my 04 single cab ranger.

Of course... ANOTHER 4dr pickup with a useless bed. Hey Ford... give us a 2dr Maverick with a foot or so of storage behind the front seats and a 6 or 6.5ft bed.

I hardly see any new Rangers on the road. For a bit more you can buy an F-150.

take away the 150’s from before 2019, that’ll give a better perspective, i think it just needs more publicity

That's because people have been conditioned to think they need bigger trucks. If someone were to step outside North America you'll notice that what we call a "midsize pickup" is all that people drive elsewhere. You'll run into the odd superduty imported to Europe and you can also get them in Australia but worldwide, midsize pickups are king. We just think we need bigger pickups in NA

Yeah I like it for sure. Wish they offered 2 door/larger bed though.

Ford never stopped production of the Ranger. They just stopped selling it in the US and Canada for a few years.

My 1996 Ranger is still going strong. Manual transmission, manual roll down windows, V6 (with almost 300,000 miles), A/C, PS, PB, and extended cab. If Ford can make a compact truck like that, this old f@rt will be interested. But, we all know it will be an automatic with all kinds of useless gadgets. (I do have a tough time with the Maverick name, but I can live with it.)
