I have to say Juan is absolutely correct about how the thrashin bars and risers change how light and nimble the RG is. I bought a 21 RG special in January 21 from Top Rocker HD. Had them put the 6.5” pullback risers and the high bend bars, this was incredible. Did a 4500 mile road trip to sturgis and more in 9 days. This set up was the most comfortable and also the ability to ride aggressive is amazing. Great job Thrashin on this set up. 🤘

Been loving my ST, first had a 2022 low rider S then got the ST instead, big game changer for winter riding, I have the thrashin supply utility bag on it, and the quadlock with vibration dampener on it for my phone, and it’s nice it comes with the USB port Started on a Kawasaki z400 and was worried about the weight but once you sit on it you realize it’s super manageable, and it handles amazing at low speed maneuvers and felt just as nimble at regular/high speeds

I was torn between these two bikes. Got to ride both at a demo day. Went with a Road Glide Special. I was surprised how light and nimble it felt while being so much heavier. Even better with my thrashin risers and bars. Too many comfort items on the road glide for road tripping for me to pass up. Still loved the low rider st tho. Wish I could have both.

One's a Bagger, the other is a Clamsheller. The Low Rider ST didn't work for me with it's mid foot pegs, so I went with a used forward mount Sport Glide, which is a Clamsheller, too. Almost need the HD aftermarket insert bags for it, for packing, to fit inside the clamshell. Does make carrying into your hotel or motel easier, though.

I appreciate your commentaries. I own an Iron 883 3 gal peanut tank and long trips suck because of that. You gave me some food for thoughts on which bike to get next. I am interested in both bikes and one factor that weight heavy for me is the ability to split lanes. I live in the Bay Area and traffic sucks bad here!!! It is easier to split lanes with a sportster or any soft tail than a Road Glide or Street.

@@ToyodaJake if you’re mainly using the bike for commuting, a couple hundred mile joy rides on the weekends and maybe a long distance trip from time to time then a low rider ST would be an amazingly fun bike to accomplish that. If you’re looking for maximum comfort and lots of long distance highway touring miles then the Road Glide (with upgraded suspension) would be better suited for the job. For me and how I use the bike, I don’t regret buying my low rider ST and selling my Road Glide.

Rode a Softail Customs for many years (still peeved I traded it in) until I was talked into getting a 'grown up bike,' a Street Glide. that extra weight really threw me off. Tried to get used to it for about six months. Saw the Low Rider ST...to me its just about the best of both worlds. I installed your 6.5" pullback with the mid bend bars. I just wish the bent back more towards me, as I still have to reach a bit. I'm more about riding in the N. Ga mountains than long touring. All in all, a great bike.

Until you change out those "Wheel Barrel" handlebars on a stock RG, they will NEVER feel anything different than a grandpa bike. You need to ride one that already has been modified to get a realistic feel for how an RG truly rides. The LRST comes from the factory already setup way more aggressive than most stock harleys....the bars are usually the first thing EVERYONE should change on a touring harley, as the stock ones are simply horrible. THe position is down on your lap in front of you on all of them....minute you change that the whole bike changes entirely.

I have a Street Glide with the 107 and the SE447 torque cam and I don’t have any problems passing people. I do agree though, the clamshell bags suck if you have much to pack. Mine are always scrached up too just from the way you have to close them. Waterproof.. completely solves the infotainment problem… and you can pop it off and watch Netflix and RU-vid videos.. or even ride with.. plus there is a handlebar controller.. super sweet … it’s a better tech platform than Harley

Great video. Definitely helped and hindered my decision. I have owned a sportster, CVO Road Glide, and my current Road Glide Ultra. I want something new. After watching this review, I'm leaning towards a Road Glide Special. I prefer the bigger bags, and bigger fuel tank. I'm in Edmonton, AB. Our season is short and our nights are cold. A bigger faring makes a huge difference! I'll definitely miss the lowers, and the tour pak. But, those are an easy fix. For context, I'm a 100 mile/day rider (mostly city).

At the end of the day, if you plan on doing anything more than a 2 or 3 hour ride with a group, the RG is the logical choice. The LR is a street shredder with the ability to tackle a 1-2 hour excursion if need be. By a longshot, most guys who have the bigger bike will never be in a spot where they really, really wish they had the smaller bike. However, most guys with a smaller bike, inevitably end up in a situation where they go, man I really wish I had a bigger bike. If you’re only gonna have one bike going with the glide is the way.

Interesting perspective on the Road Glide. My personal Opinion: 04-up sportster, early model Dyna, new softails all feel similar weight to each other. Now, on paper the new softail is quite a bit heavier then the first two I just mentioned, but the weight balance is just so damn good it feels lighter and more nimble then I ever expected. The Sporty and Dyna get a bit top heavy and twitchy at low speeds especially with jacked up suspensions. New model dyna feels heavy, especially the jacked up ones like the Low rider S. I'd almost say that it's closer to the RG feel wise. Regardless of that I'd say any touring bike I've ridden feels noticeably heavier to me. Especially in tight twisties, it takes a lot to go from full lean in one direction to the other. That scenario specifically is where the Sportster is king, overall handling I'd give to the Low rider S/ST personally.

@mrks_motorcyclist it's a shame because for the type of riding they like to do a properly kitted Sportster would do as good/better of a job in alot of cases. I think you can do it for less money too. All the parts, especially engine parts, are a bit cheaper than big twin stuff. But hey, to each their own they have some slick rides! What Sportster model do you have?

@@EngineeringGoneWrong I have an Iron XL 883 N from 2019 with an S&S 1200 Hooligan kit, some parts from Biltwell and from the company HeinzBikes from Germany. I would love to get some good parts from Thrashin, but there's nothing for me here! I would like to get a adjustable brake pedal or clutch for the Sportster... GUYS!

@@mrks_motorcyclist yup. They used to have a gorgeous 2-1 they discontinued. Very sad

@@EngineeringGoneWrong No way... that sucks... shame on you thrashin! You are losing customers, that can't be your interest! Buy a Sportster, it's not expensive and makes parts! I know you read it... so let's go!

I’m running thrashin high bends with boosted Brad 8” risers. Bars still feel too far forward? I’m even running the SDC Saddlemen with adjustable backrest. Any advice?

Are your risers Pull Back? Also the higher you go, the closer it gets to you!

I traded my Low Rider 2019 for Bagger 2022 (RG Standard) such a great damn bike, way more stable, its look sick...Just didnt like the Low Rider even with the bigger engine didnt notice the power difference personally how i ride.. I ride my bike everyday and everywhere, i dont drive my car unless it snows in Socal, im always on my RG..Just a way more comfortable ride..Great review
