In this video I road test and review Harley's 2022 Low Rider ST From the highway to the California canyons. www.ridelikeapro.com www.tabperformance.com
@@motorman857 of course he did Everyone who is serious about riding knows who u are and watches your vids (Or id like to think that. Duck walking is not a good look and same with 20pt turns)
Bought a bike from Matt Laidlaw last year (Pan America) and it was the best HD dealer experience of my life, paid MSRP no gimmicks no games, highly recommend Laidlaws Harley!
I like how you demonstrate safety and pace on an unfamiliar bike on unfamiliar roads and didn’t fall into the pressure of the pack. Common sense but worth noting.
This is awesome how the collaboration effort between HD Corp and our favorite vloggers is coming along. Fantastic video footage and commentary from real world experienced riders.
Finally honest review about sitting position. It is made for short legged riders with long arms. High mid positioned foot pegs and low seat never match. Either much higher seat or forward controls.
First video I've come across from your channel and very impressed. Its very refreshing to hear feedback from someone who obviously knows what he's talking about and can ride a bike, and describe it accurately.
I’m from Los Angeles and your homeless tent comment made me chuckle , you’re spot on about that . Santa Barbara is a beautiful place , most of smaller coast cities are in fact . The homeless/junkies from all over the country just love to migrate to Los Angeles unfortunately.
Hi Motorman . Good video on the new Lowrider ST . Gauges would have been nice. The led display is small and can be hard to see. I had a 2020 Softail Standard. I put 14,000 on it. I am 5’11” and felt cramped on it. The H-D Sundowner seat made a big difference and I found a set of highway pegs from D&K and let me keep the mid controls . I also added a detachable windshield. I even installed factory cruise control which is nice for long straight rides on the interstate. I agree the new Softail frame is a lot busier as far as vibration goes and you feel every bump and rock on the road. I did miss having saddlebags too. So in the end I traded it in on a brand new 2022 Electra Glide Standard I was lucky to find. It has RDRS which I am getting used to but I would not have ordered it. Best Harley for the money in my opinion. I have always had touring models and thought I would like the new Softail. Live and learn I guess. Keep the videos coming, great info on riding techniques.
Jerry I like the jacket you’re wearing it reminds of the flat track leathers. By the way I can’t imagine riding without the kind of roads you were ride on.
Great detailed review! Looks like a beautiful motorcycle. Not sure about that “gauge cluster” seems a bit tiny🤔 Can’t wait to see the 975 review. And I’m loving the Ride like a Pro DVDs BTW! And you should keep the beard Motorman 🧔👍 May God Bless you and Donna
it deserves a gauge. I can do without a large infotainment system, but something bigger than that display. it looks clean, yeah, but I'd have a hard time reading it
There are mountains in Florida , Mount Dora . Lol . Good looking motorcycle , needs bigger bags . I just need the fairing for my Super Glide . Great video , love the new Low Rider . I will most likely find a fairing for mine and save the money , will pick up a garage queen in two years with low miles. Ride Safe
Thanks Gerry great video good review of the bike looks like a fun bike to ride enjoyed the ride up the mountain Thanks take care and have a great weekend
I looked at these and almost bought one, but ended up with a Triumph Speedmaster which IMHO, is much more comfortable, has as much torque and comes standard with forward controls, swept back beach bar, and a comfort seat for over $10,000 less than this Harley that as you say, needs customization to be comfortable. I added some Viking hard bags and a touring windshield, plus floorboards and even with these add ons, it was still almost $10K cheaper than this bike before mods. For me, Triumph wins hands down for value. Thanks for another honest review!
@@joshdeaktor5827 Excellent! I also liked the red, which I test rode when visiting the US, but when the dealer here told me he was getting a Speedmaster Goldline, I bought it sight unseen. Even nicer than I thought it would be. Enjoy!
Great video Motorman! I know what you mean about getting shaken by the drop off view. I got the same sensation riding through the Smokies in Tennessee! 👍
Great review. You have the voice for this type thing or even radio. Now about Harley. I understand foot controls and handle bar placement is left to the riders preference, but why cant they produce a practical, comfortable seat from the get go? Thanks for video.
For sure. Make it comfortable stock, then if buyers want to make an uncomfortable "styling statement" of some sort, let them, but make it comfortable from the factory. Competitors do.
Great review as always Jerry. Glad you had a good time in California. I agree, there are lots of gray bikes and gray paint on vehicles popping up all over the place, hardly any black bikes! LOL, wink wink.
Yeah that's all I could think when I heard the comment about a lot of gray bikes. Yeah black, that'd be unique & original! 🙄 Have a gray Low Rider ST myself with about 80 miles on it so far, agree with most of your comments. I'm 5-9 and another couple inches of pull back on the risers would be great, and it definitely is buzzy compared to a touring bike. Much more FUN to ride than an Ultra, light and nimble.
Very nice aerea and views, looks very similar as where I live in the south of France. This bikemodel is not my cup of tea, but with a little arrangements it can be nice. I don't like the 2 beauty cases on the back. Good review, thanks
Hey Jerry, big fan of your ride like a pro video. Did harley give you a chance to do any tight meanuvers? Was curious to see how the bikes handling is compared to the road king etc...
Like the way you called it a Sport Touring Cruiser, if I buy a Harley the ST would be it. I use an Air Hawk so I think the seat would be OK. Only concern is leg room, sounds like that might be compromised. Thanks for the great review, you hit it out of the park.
Hi Jerry, Did you get to ride with one of your students ( Doodle )? Would be nice to see how she's progressing since she has been riding larger and taller bikes. I agree Matt did make the bike look like a toy. The larger models with forward controls in Harley's line are a perfect fit for Matt. I've watched several videos including Matt's and Doodle's on the ST. Might make a change in the future to an ST. Thanks
Hey motorman, would like to hear your thoughts on the road racing in northern Ireland, North west 200, ulster gp etc, great racing, just s thought my friend, 👍👍
This is the replacement for the Sport Glide. They discontinued it in '22. Maybe not this year but definitely next year I'll be looking at a purchase. Like long distance travelling and I've outgrown my '18 Yamaha Bolt R-Spec. If I'm going to spend the money this is it rather than buying a fairing and saddlebags for a Softail Standard.
@@2hotFL thats kinda my point, Harley's are really asymmetric, so the point that the two bags aren't the exact same size on each side is such a massive issue/problem to some people seems crazy. There's way more OCD inducing things about Harley's.
@@jimmyrustles8118 To each their own then. In my view it would have been a better idea if Harley had put a 2 into 1 exhaust on it and made the bags the same size, or at least made them the same height with an indentation on the right bag to fit around the exhaust.
Great vid Jerry!! As a guy who was born and raised in the winding roads of the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, why in the world don't the California Highway Department put guardrail's on those drop offs?? In Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, we use guardrail's out here, at least on the highest drop offs. I was just wondering why. Anyways NICE HARLEY!! Beautiful bike and my son's "Dream Bike". I'm still partial to my 2011 Road King, I guess its just to much of a old friend to let go of her lol. Be safe brother Jerry and GOD BLESS🙏😎
When you pay people not to work and give criminals money not to commit crimes and feed and house millions of illegals, despite the high taxes in Ca., there's not enough tax payer money left over for guard rails i guess.
@@motorman857 you read my mind brother, you just had the courage to say it when I didn't, lol. Virginia has her own set of issues. I'm 56, and when I grew up in Virginia in the 70s and 80s, we were a VERY CONSERVATIVE OLD SOUTH STATE. Now in the northern part of Virginia, (where 90 percent of the population of "move in's" and illegal immigrants live) they have the shear power of numbers, and because of liberals in that part of my State, some vote ILLEGALLY. Anyways, I was afraid we were going to follow in California's footsteps here, but in the last election for governor and the other 2 top position's, we came home and we went CONSERVATIVE. Just know Jerry I love y'alls Governor!! Top notch man, and TOUGH!! But your channel is all about bikes and safety, (your advice has saved me a time or 2 for sure) so I'll leave the political scene alone for a while, lol. God bless you and Donna, and I pray she's doing well. Godspeed🙏😁
@@williampoff3096 Born and raised in L.A. now living in central FL. I've ridden all those canyons from Cambria down to San Diego. If you want to know one of the reasons there are no guardrails let this sink in. 83% of retired California state employees are receiving a pension of AT LEAST $100k.
@@Tuleyne I don't know what to say but.......Wow😳!! State employees here all have to get a second job to live on with their pensions. My grandpa did and my cousin will have to also. I'm a carpenter, so it's no pension for me. Oh well if it's works for them out there, as Pa Darling said on a episode of Andy Griffith, "More power to um"........Lol, I think😁
you did a great review Jerry! The riding position looks uncomfortable for the long haul tho. The more i see this bike the more i don’t like the design of the fairing head on. it looks cheap imo. the windshield square and bolted on is not sleek in person… its kinda plastic-y and weak looking from the front angle. the bags aren’t color matched on the inside edges- just black plastic… the inside of the fairing not color matched either. i know they did a lot of this to keep cost down, but this bike is basically for someone who wants the power of the 117 and a bit of wind kept off the chest… the club kid that is upgrading their softail. If a skater kid were a biker kid. I am just not digging it.
and that taillight and license plate mount just detracts from the looks too. I just think this could have been done better and look meaner but would have come with a higher price. Meh on the aesthetics of this bike for me.
It is a Sport touring cruiser. On your youtube channel you can call it what ever you want to call it. On MY youtube channel, I'll call it a sport touring cruiser.
Love your videos! Since I come from a non-cruiser background, I'm not a real fan of what I consider forward controls on my 19 Heritage Classic. Would these foot pegs and controls bolt on my Heritage? I am your height.
I would think so since all the softtails have the same frame. I happen to have a set of mid controls from a 2021 Low Rider S. 200 bucks and they're yours.
@@motorman857 If they are less feet forward than what I have, I want them. I'm a new Harley rider so I don't know the exact definition of mid and forward. How do I get you my info?
With a fixed fairing and one head light, not two headlights like the road glide . How is the lighting at night on curves? How bright is the headlight in general at night?
MSRP is around 22K but finding a dealer to sell you one for MSRP may be a problem. Laidlaw's Harley Davidson in LA. CA is an MSRP dealer but they are sold out of these bikes for the year.
Great video, lots of good honest information. I do feel that Harley should at least offer an exchange or heavy discount when ya have to change parts on a new bike to enable it to be ridden by the owner!
@@splodge5714 H.D. must have made the correct decision since they are all sold out for the year with most people paying way over MSRP. Tough to argue with success.
Hey boss I have a question are expensive if u do private lessons because I would love some training on a new bike I’m getting it’s the Yamaha vstar 950 or can u show a vstar 950 on ur channel so I can see how it’s done
Go to ridelikeapro.com and get yourself my video ''The Ride Like a Pro Experience'' either in dvd or download. Then master the first 2 exercises before coming to my class or even a private lesson and you'll be way ahead of the game. The best 20 bucks you'll ever spend. The 3 techniques are the same for all motorcycles.
"They could've put a better seat on." LOL. Jerry, you're supposed to go over to Parts and Accessories and buy that better seat for $500 when you buy the bike and have them install it before you take delivery.
It’s a great looking bike but the right saddle bag is way smaller than the left and the fairing is flimsy , I would much prefer real gages than the led type even a TFT would have been better , still its a definite change from the 2021 model , just keeping it real with my opinion
That guage .....they couldn't do thought of something Better for that model ? Does the fairing since it has no gauges or radio does it utilize its space for potential storage maybe something as simple as your wallet paperwork for the bike turnpike EZ pass ? Anything ?,
Interesting bike. However I would like to have floor boards on that bike and pull back mini apes and instead of that rectangle instrument cluster, rather have round dial speedo and tacho on the bars so easy to see and your not looking down to see them. I think you would be better to buy a low k street glide or road glide.
Welcome to CA Jerry. Next time out, bring De Santis' twin out to replace Newsome. I live about 70 miles N of where you rode. You need to come here more often, and start a RLaP out here, please. Don't forget to bring De Satis.....
SIR, I DO NOT MEAN ANY DISRESPECT. BUT A PERSON'S HEIGHT MEANS NOTHING AT ALL IN THE SEAT HEIGHT OF A, A MOTORCYCLE!! IT IS THE INSEAM THAT MATTERS !! I AM TALLER THAN MY BROTHER BUT HAVE A SHORTER INSEAM. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SIZE IN HEIGHT OF WHETHER A PERSON IS ABLE TO REACH THE SHIFTER OR BRAKE PEDDLE AS WELL WHETHER OR NOT THAT CAN SIT ON THE SEAT AND REACH THE GROUND FLAT-FOOTED. I AM SURE WISH YOU PEOPLE THAT DO THESE EVALUATIONS WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT. I HAVE A ROAD HARLEY AND THE LAST BIKE I OWNED WS AND ROAD ALMOST DAILY WAS A NOMAD. THAT I HAD T REDO THE SEAT ON A PERSON CAN BE LONG-LEGGED OR SHORT AS A PERSON CAN HAVE LONG WASTED OR SHORT. IT IS NOT HOW TALL OR SHORT A PERSIS IT DOES MATTER HOW LONG THE PERSON'S LEGS ARE. THNK FOR THE INFO ABOUT RIDING SLOW. I DO LIKE YOUR VIDEOS.
Crystal River Harley has one on the floor. They've added the H.D. speaker and amp and a Saddleman seat. MSRP 22K. Their price? 34 K plus, tax, tag, title fees, and dealer fees,, of course. You better hurry!
Both boring colors, but too many grey? About 90% of HDs are black. Same for every square inch of most other vehicles anymore. Paint pigment must be imported from Russia or something.
