It's a American thing, Trying to be the latest and marketing.. it gets confusing when trying to buy parts internationally. The U.S 2022 is just a 2021 for the rest of the world or a MSX 125 2021

if you are going 60mph on the grom. how much do you wiegh. cause in 5'5 130 pounds?
@chriserickson6099
@chriserickson6099 3 года назад
I'd assume you should be able to do that no problem from videos i've seen. I'm 5'4 and weigh about 160 and i've seen videos of dudes saying they are the same weight as me who are seemingly exceeding 60 mph with no real struggle
@AdiCherryson

What weight has to do with the top speed? It's not like you're going uphill.
@chriserickson6099
@chriserickson6099 3 года назад
@@AdiCherryson I mean weight kind of effects speed lmao, if you are a heavier person you obviously wont be able to go as fast, its a 229 pound bike as it is
@AdiCherryson

@@chriserickson6099 I don't want to be mean or anything but it actually doesn't. Weight affects acceleration, the top speed (on a flat surface) is only affected by the drag coefficient and friction.
@chriserickson6099
@chriserickson6099 3 года назад
I guess I'm a little confused at what you are trying to tell me, If weight affects the acceleration, then how does it not effect the top speed? The heavier you weigh, the longer it takes to accelerate. If you don't have enough time to accelerate depending on where you are riding, that can affect the top speed. We live in a world where hills are bound to exist. If we were on an endless drag strip that would be a different story, but I'm still sticking with the idea that in the end weight can effect top speed.

I own both the OG and SF, and also tried the new one. The OG is the most comfortable one. Also this new one is Euro5... The engine is gutless. The 5 speed gearbox was not Honda listening to us, it was a requirement for it to be usable with that Euro5 💩. Can only imagine how much worse would it be with only 4 years. I was excited and wanted to buy one so I would have all 3. After riding it, I don't desire it anymore. The seat is far better than the SF, but the shape is not as good as the OG, and it will make your bottom hurt. The bars are too low, not as bad as the SF, but low nonetheless. Suspension is bad, as it has always been, Honda doesn't care at all. For the price, at least the suspension could have been improved. I'm not hating on the machine, I do have the 2 previous versions after all, but it is not what "The internet" is claiming it to be.

I'd like to know how a engine with all other specs the same but with higher compression would be lower in power? the exhaust is supposed to be an improvement as well with a single chamber muffler vs a 3 chamber. 2022 also has a smaller cat, maybe more restrictive? . with the higher compression, better exhaust I can see a 1 hp improvement for the new 2022 groms/monkeys. maybe the one you rode just needed more run in time?
@zefautino
@zefautino 3 года назад
@@billwilliamson9842 You don't need to believe me. Try all 3 as I did and evaluate for yourself. And where have I said it is lower In power? Just don't forget all the changes, including the 5 gears, are due to Euro 5. There's only so much manufacturers can do.
@billwilliamson9842
@billwilliamson9842 3 года назад
@@zefautino well you said the engine is "gutless" implyin it has less power then previous models. all things bein equal, higher compression equates to more power. maybe not a huge power increase, but an increase all the same. a 5th gear should be a good thing. from what others have said, 1st gear in the groms and monkeys is too high. so if they made 1st lower and spaced the rest out properly, it should make for a snappier ride and maybe a higher top end.
@zefautino
@zefautino 3 года назад
@@billwilliamson9842 oh, no, no, no. I implied nothing like that. Power and engine response are two different things. I had this conversation before, not gonna do it again. Off course the 5 gears are a good thing, unfortunately Honda didn't thought in 2011/2012 it was needed, as the oil filter. Honda have apparently learned about luggage, as the new frame has new mounting points for it, the previous didn't have specific points and although not a very known issue, the older frame did bend with luggage. Also the suspension... no need to say more, anyone who has ever ridden one, new or old, knows exactly what the problem is.

I call BS on the 60 mph. 2020 Grom 4th gear 0.923 with 15T/34T sprockets, 2022 Grom 5th gear 0.843 with 15T/38T sprockets. They are essentially the same final drive at 2.09 vs 2.13 ratios. There is no way the 2022 will go any faster out of the box than the previous one. I would definitely not hit the highway with this thing.

Highway is not recommended on a grom but the bike did go 60 mph in the video.

Mine has a 181 and top speed was 120km/h (gps, 131 on the clock) on a steep hill. This new one's engine is gutless, you are good on math, you can get there. The 5 gears is to dilute the gutlessness of the engine, but... It didn't work on me. Would love to have this engine on a OG electronics. Took me a long time to figure out why my SF couldn't keep up with the friend's OG. Now that I have an OG I know. The OG just runs better. OG - nice. SF - not as nice 2021 - oh.... FSS.
