I just went driving last night with two guys who'd just bought a pair of these. One was DCT on Kumho tires, the other stick shift on Michelin PS4s. I was in my 2011 NC2 Miata. These things are quick. The guy on the Michelins especially proved to be just more than I felt comfortable keeping up with. HUGE difference in those tires. I'm really happy to see Hyundai-Kia making genuine enthusiast products that deliver the goods.
@@ronburgundy4375 We were on a very twisty road with a lot of 2nd gear corners. Especially on the Michelins the Kias set a pace that very few people go near on that road. If we were in corn country where it's all highway pulls, then no it wouldn't be that impressive.
Love mine. Going on 6 months now and been modding the hell out of it. People ask what kind of car it is all the time and say it’s one sexy ass car. Full tint all around including tail and headlights and new mbrp exhaust, bov , cai and a tune make it a whole new beast
I traded in my 2021 GT with the GT2 package for the updated refresh 2022 GT GT2 package in November of 21. I swapped out the stock tires for a set of Firestones, I added a chip to get 250HP from the engine. I love it!!! Handles great and for the money and options great car. I got the Sporty Blue in the DCT.
Great Review. I don’t see a ton these in the DC area. Love the feature set and seemingly good performance of this model. I don’t care for placement of the rear turn signal/reverse lights.
Thank you for the excellent review. I’m definitely going to consider the Forte next to a Ford Maverick for my soon to be 16 year old son’s first car…affordable with good gas mileage is a good combo.
Spot on review! I had a '21 GT manual and LOVED IT. With the updates for '22 (for the manual, the exterior refresh, full syn-leather seats and navi are added), I'm thinking about upgrading. The price/performance-features ratio is as good as it gets. Full stop. Now, for the wish list: the 2.0T from the Elantra N (detuned to about 250hp and to run on 87), radar cruise (for the manual; it comes with the auto), and a heated steering wheel. For this, I'd pay an extra $4000 over the $25XXX they ask for the manual. Please, Kia, make it happen. But, as it is, the Forte GT is a better overall package than the Si, will be better to own long-term over the GLI, and has styling that is more... preferable... than the Elantra N-Line. If you are looking for the affordable performance oriented compact of your dreams, take Steve's advice from the end of his review.
@@stevehammes For a little while. In a moment of weakness, I traded in the stinger for the forte. And then since then in a moment of weakness traded the forte in for a Sonata and NLine. And then, because we moved to Minnesota, I felt the need for all wheel drive, so traded the NLine in for a Mazda three all-wheel-drive turbo. Not too thrilled about the Mazda, so now looking to get back into either a forte GT, or an Alantra N. Both of which are proving elusive to procure. The good news is, given the craziness of the car market, it doesn’t cost much to drive a new vehicle for a few months and then turn around and trade it back in. About equal to the monthly payments.
Because this review I bought my Kia Forte GT 🎉🎉🎉 🎇🥳🥳🥳 and I love it . And for people like me that like to modify your vehicles there's plenty of aftermarket parts available for this car 🚗🚗 I've already done some upgrades to my car and it's another beast 😜😜😜
The Forte has matured really well. I own a gen 2 from 2014 and have always liked the way this looked but not sedan trim. The hatchback redesign took on an odd interpretation and lost some ground. Their estate or wagon style in Europe is really nice and should have been brought over to NA but alas this would be a nice compromise.
All the dealerships near me don't have any in stock how did you guys order yours? I know you can go and build one and they will deliver it but can you finance it? With 10K down and a trade in, I'm sure they wouldn't reject me.
Could be my next car. My only question is: Will things break on this car, will it burn oil? The warranty is long but will Kia deny your claim and give you a ton of bs? Been reading stories on forums from not just the 2010 but the 2019 Forte and that was the more basic NA engine... Hard to tell if their new stuff is more reliable than their old too soon to tell. Having said that will give this car a chance, if i get burned then I'll give Toyota a try.
The engine in the Forte has been in play for Kia & Hyundai line up since 2012. They are pretty stout and robust cars. I work for Kia the GT's haven been pretty solid cars and trouble free using such an established platform. Had a 2020 & now a 2022 both have been solid cars. Even tuned both a bit and zero issues.
I don't own this car yet, but when I did own a 2014 Optima I bought used I had 3 warranty repairs that they did with absolutely 0 issues. One was as "frivolous" as a rear passenger window switch breaking. I trust Kia and I'm excited to be trading my Volvo in for another Kia.
@@blaireeee344 every since Peter Schreyer (formerly Audi) Kia has been one hit after another. He truly helped a company on the brink of bankruptcy to one of the top 5 manufacturs. Glad Kia is trying to compete with Euro market as let's face it BMW & Benz are not built how they used to be. This was the reason behind the Optima being named K5 & Forte the K3
@@oldhunterraziel5327 Was that around 2010? I don't know their history well but it has been really impressive to see how they went from like bottom of the barrel economy car in the 2000's to like some of the best cars on the market for both entry "luxury" and economy cars.
@@blaireeee344 so the "new" Kia launched 2015 as 2013 is about when they were gonna tank. Hyundai swooped in and helped them as they were the only other Korean car manufacturer. It is also good for business. Kia was trying to go from a budget to respectable company on their own they just really didn't have the funds to do so. Some 2012-2014 have LIFETIME engine replacement due to failures. But since then it has been on JD Power best in class on quite a few vehicles. If you'd have told me 10 years ago I'd be willingly driving a Kia I would have laughed at you. Me and my cousin bought one each right when they first launched. It was $8,499 for one Sephia and for $1 more you got a second car 🤣
I really would love to see a comparison between this car with the GT2 package and the Hyundai N-line (not the N). They are both very comparable in price, and performance. Ultimately they are the same engine, with different visuals on exterior and interior. Personally it seems that the Forte GT is more loved, while the Hyundai looks "cooler" and has a more "aesthetically pleasing" interior look. I am test driving them both this week and looking forward to it!
The top trims are nothing close to the lower trims, whole different suspension and engine. This motors been out since 2017 and is reliable Dct and manual I’ve owned a 2020 and have the 2022
My only complaint is the stupidly low turn signals in the rear bumper. I know they had to add them to meet DOT regulations, but it seems like a safety hazard.
The wireless issue is because of google and apple want their maps to be default and kia said no they want their map to be default. So no wireless option.
Nice to actually see a fully loaded performance model be affordable for once. Will guess that the next redesigned Forte (unless discontinued) will cross the $30,000 mark for a GT (w/GT2 or whatever it gets called).
Sounds like you get a lot with the GT2 package.... None of it though has anything to do with performance. And honestly, I'd rather have an actual hand-brake. So, under $25K, Nice!
I have a 2020 mazda 3 and the 2022 kia forte gt. Both are fantastic cars. I love my mazda 3 and the way it drives and looks. The forte gt is quicker and more fun when you drive it sporty. You can hear the turbo and exhaust, it's a really fun car for the price.
Nah, awd would just add more weight and give it a higher price tag. Though the car is slightly underrated cuz its making closer to 185 wheel hp, for awd itd need to get a bump to 245 bhp at least, which also brings the price tag up. You want a bang for your buck at under 30k? Mid / high 20k? This is just right.
Kia's good dependability is a bunch of bullshit. Have you seen the complaints on Consumer Affairs about electrical issues leading to engine fires? Hyundai is still having issues with engine fires, and they still have not come up with the solution to fix the problems!
