Thanks for that comprehensive vid showing how far one can take the "bling factor" when making the bike their own. I owned one of the two 2007 models that the local dealership was moving out at cost, making room for the next upgrade model which was about 80 lbs heavier. I added some bling of my own, but not to the extent that you went to. I had six bikes registered at the same time & each one of them was so unique that they all had me giggling inside my helmet each time that I rode one. As a commuter, I found that the 2011 Kawasaki 650 Versys was better for divided highway riding with the paralled twin with more hp & torque. Enjoy the fruits of your labor & imagination & "speed safely".

Thank you for taking the time. I have to say I'm a fan of T Rex. I bought a very lightly used DR650 that the previous owner had already installed TRex engine guards on, and I went ahead with a TRex skid plate. Very heavy duty. I didn't realize they made hand guards. Great bike. Great video.

Nice build. I added the Corbin heated seat. I don't think it's any more comfortable than the oem seat, it's the dish seat which came in about 1 1/2 inches lower than the stock seat. Good for short riders!!!!

Hello again from the other Ohio(Idaho). Yes, I tell people I'm from Idaho and I get "Ohio"? "Iowa"?. I've watched this video a second time 8 months later as I said "I don't want to be that guy with all of the gadgets". Here I am adding the gadgets one after the next. I got very worried when you weren't saying anything about the stock tires until near the end you called them "garbage" and that is exactly what those tires are. I changed mine out right after my first dirt(mud) nap. I agree with you 100% about Happy Trails. They are located in my state and it took them months and months to get the products I ordered delivered. But the products were top notch A+ excellent . I bought the 2022 Adventure model in sept 2021 and now I've taken the bike on trips through the lower 48, 3 weeks in Mexico, and ran it on portions of the Idaho BDR in the north where I live. I use the HT pannier racks and run the same Tusk pilot soft bags. A pain in the arse to put on and take off quickly, but they have been great so far. I have the water bottle add on which was seriously needed when riding in Mexico. We have many of the same add ons except I did not put on my fork brace. I heard some negative stuff about it and I'm not sure whether to put it on or not. Since it's been 8 months later can you comment on the fork brace? Are you still happy with the Steelmate TPMS? I'm thinking about adding it. And any comment on the headlight guard? Does it affect the flow of the light? It's 150 bucks and I'm not sure whether it's worth it or not. You mentioned a headlight replacement running near $1k which is outrageous, but I'm still contemplating this purchase. Are you still happy with the GPS mount? I guess I'd need to buy a zumo gps if I was to get that mount. It looks like a stable system. Now you should be able to tell us how good it has worked out for you. I did the thermo-bob upgrade immediately after buying the bike and added the two gauges. I'm thinking I'll do the Doo-hickey this late spring when the snow melts a bit. I did add the Corbin heated dished seat which I don't feel is any more comfortable than the OEM seat. It allows me to touch the ground better and my butt stays warm when riding in the cold. Thanks again for your comprehensive video of add ons and since it's going on a year later it would be nice to know how those add ons added to your riding experience. Thank you.
@2talltimadventures
@2talltimadventures Год назад
Okay there's a lot to unpack in your comment and reply to. I want to start off by saying thank you for watching and being a subscriber. Well yes putting gadgets on may seem like Overkill to some people really what I have on my bike is still stupid simple items that just work. Yeah I couldn't wait to get the stock tires off pretty happy with the Motoz Adv tires didn't really get the mileage out of them I wanted for the money but I was happy with thier performance. Happy Trails can kiss my ass they will never get another dime of my money nor will I ever promote them. Has nothing to do with the delay or the quality of products mostly has to do with how they handle themselves when questioned on these things. Instead of Manning up and owning to their mistakes and or problems they just simply chose to block me from all social media Outlets so I can no longer comment on anything. I ended up getting rid of the Tusk bags before I even use them I do plan on getting another set of soft luggage eventually but I want to utilize my hard panniers for now since I spent so much money on them. I've been very happy with my steelmate TPMS system I've had it on a few different bikes I can't comment on their newer system the one I have it seems they don't sell anymore but it has been very reliable and works very well. The fork brace is mostly for Road riding it really stabilizes the bike and gives it more of a sporty feel. Which my background is mostly sport bike riding so I think it really improved the stability on the road of the bike I don't think it really does a whole lot for off-road or slow speed maneuvering. Lots of options out there for those like Amazon and eBay it's a pretty basic thing doesn't need to be over engineered or complicated so even your chineseium options will work just fine. Very happy with my Moto pumps GPS mount it's been solid has never slipped so no issues there I do like my Garmin I wish I could upgrade to the XT but for what I have vested in the older model I'll just keep rocking it for now. I too will be doing the doohickey this spring I was just waiting for the warranty to be up on the bike before I started messing with it. I went with C Concepts tall seat I do have another video on that so far pretty happy with it took a little while to get it broken but now that it's pretty well broken I can say I'm comfortable all day on it. It's obviously winter here in Ohio just like it is where you are I did plan on doing a follow-up video this spring talking about how my upgrades have worked out. Really don't have any regrets other than giving Happy Trails my money with all my upgrades I'd say the biggest drawback is just adding weight to the bike but I haven't done any major off-roading yet to really be a problem. Thanks again for watching and interacting if you have any more questions or I didn't touch on anything you were asking in this comment feel free to reach out again ride safe

Great review and summary video of your accessories. I have many of the same items on my bike- T-Rex hand/engine guards and center stand, touring shield, heated grips (Koso), DT mirrors and TB with tack/temp gauge. I have the Rox risers and had slight interference at full lock with the windscreen so I trimmed the bottom inside corner of the plastic Barkbuster hand guards. The only free mod I have is same as yours (kickstand pad) except mine is a little thicker to stand the bike up a little more. If you end up modifying the angle of the center stand I would be interested to see what you come up with.

im 270. Bought the 2023 S model and was concerned before I bought it because everyone told me id need a stronger spring. But with the different suspension they used I guess it stiffened it up for the S model. Im getting the recommended 1.5 to 2 inch sag when I sit and my preload is on 4. Rides fine on and off road.

Awesome build 😁👍 I wonder if the windshield + panniers slow you down on the highway. I have heard the big box type saddlebags create a lot of noticable drag. The windshield mfrs should state what kind of impacts they protect against. Like 5lb bird @ 70mph, etc. Dyno tune+flash and you're set 😎 Maybe 705+719cc upgrades after 50k miles (when you do start burning oil) with a 17t or 40/16 sprockets, and then you'll really be set 🔥

This is the best mods video for 2022 on RU-vid for sure but I just want to say I have the adventure model and for one the LED fog lights don’t break off. I’ve crashed my bike and all sorts of rocky ravines roads and other horrible spots I will also say that during these crashes, I have never hurt the plastics and all I have is the stock engine guards, so I believe they really do enough and you don’t need the big ass top bars, but they do look kind of cool other than that very cool video

Very thorough....! $4300 later huh....? one way or another the KLR becomes a $10-11,000 bike if you fix all the shortcomings. I sure hope Kawasaki does something with their 650 twin to try to make something for $9,000 that does all of these adventure things well, (in Green!). I'm sure it would be better looking than the Tenere which I think looks kind of lumpy. This might be the definitive KLR build, looking forward to your front shock upgrade reviews.

Do those Tusk foot pegs bend slightly backwards? One reviewer on Amazon said they do, and I'm concerned about this because I need them to be as straight as the stock foot pegs. The KLR has so far been the only adventure motorcycle that has its foot pegs positioned as mid-controls (essentially), and for medical reasons I cannot have my legs bent back too far. Thanks, and you've done wonders with that bike!

Do the bar risers cause your throttle wire to stretch very tight when the bars are in the locked position. Mine did and I took them off for that reason.
@6806goats1
@6806goats1 2 года назад
Guess I need to cross check application but will these panniers also fit on a GSA? If so I'd get a set to run on the Kawi (when/if I get one) and then later on put them on the GSA which is also a bike I'm thinking about for the future. KLR first the a GSA. Lots o' money spent to keep her safe and I dig where you're coming from.

Good video. How the heck did you get those tusk bar risers installed? I bought the exact same ones, and could not get them to mount. Not enough slack in the cables on my 2022 klr. This is my third klr. The bar risers fit just fine on my previous gen 1 & 2 bikes.
@2talltimadventures
@2talltimadventures 2 года назад
I had zero issues. There was plenty of slack in the cables and wires. My friend put on the same ones and he had zero issues too. You might want to make sure you don't have a bind or something not routed right from the factory.

How does the windshield compare to when using the oem shield in the tall position with the risers? I currently have the 3d risers but definitely considering the different windshield
@2talltimadventures
@2talltimadventures 2 года назад
While the risers with the stock wind screen is a vast improvement. The touring screen take it to a whole other level. Almost complete silence from air and buffeting. Make what seem a pocket of silence compared to stock. There will be draw backs in warmer weather due to last of air flow.

Good morning, Tim. Thank you for this most excellent video. And...thank you for not treating the viewers like we're 5 years old. Just getting to the information is great. I am just days away from purchasing my first KLR. I'm coming off of a 1250 GSA. I'll likely follow in many of your mod footsteps. They're good ideas, and look like fun projects. I do have a question regarding the electronic mods. Due to the color choice (I like the tan), I would like to get the KLR with ABS. One of the first mods I will do is put in USB/12V. Is this a mistake...and I should purchase the Traveler as it's setup for wiring mods? Or...are they all the same underneath, and the simple purchase of a switch, outlet, and relays and I'll be good. Thank you for your thoughts. See you out there.

If your in the lower 48, you don’t know how good you have it. Try living in northern Canada. That seat concepts price I actually laughed out loud. $280 shipped. Where I live it’s like 400 plus 30% for exchange and then add $400 for shipping. I put a Corbin seat on my dr 15 years ago and it was $600 in 2004. Americans have it so good with Amazon and free shipping and all these dealers are in the states. So lucky.

Thank you for the compliment. It is a Garmin zumo 590. It is identical to the Garmin Zumo 595. The replacement for it was the zumo XT. I would assume they have similar mounting holes. And yes it does mount right up hole for hole with the Moto pumps bar mount.

@@genemalburg785 yes the Garmin Zumo is motorcycle specific. It's riggid, water proof and has motorcycle specific routing options. As well as other options for Bluetooth and other controls.
