sounds and looks awesome, i saw flames coming out on the last rev!! Crazy!! I like your mods though I've read that this could ruin the engine if you install the completely open exhaust as there is no back-flow prevention! Removing baffle is the worst thing you can do on a bike! I saw ppl complaining on forums their ktm dukes are a trash due engine failure, they dont realize that this is one of the reason why this happens! Flames are not healthy for the engine at all. Owners are experiencing cracking pistons and valves failures due this kind of mods. This will reduce the life of your engine as every fun costs money. Congrats for this beauty and long life ktm! I am an 790 duke happy owner. Awesome video btw, drive safe guys.
Right? And that’s not really with wide open throttle. Yeah, I think a 890R is a great next step for you! You are already super comfortable on the 390, 890 would be a fun leap. 😁
Amazing that the 890R comes with the power cup 2 from the factory!! I use these tires on my street/ trackbike and are amazing, they suck cold but I run warmers on them anyway when I take the v2 to the track.
I’ve heard really good things about them! Will be my first time trying them out next week. I’ll see how many days I can put on them on track before swapping out to my usual slicks setup. How long have you had your V2 for? I absolutely love that bike!
@@vtranmoto thanks! My trackbike is an 07R1 and I had a monster 1200s and was scraping the headers on track so I got rid off it. I got the V2 last year in june. Love it!!! So well balanced its just amazing and the electronic package is just amazing. Perfect trackbike but also comfortable enough to ride it on the street.
That’s exactly how I felt about the V2 when I test rode it when it came out. Unfortunately, I convinced myself I wanted to race 600 class again and ended up getting a R6 (which I don’t ever ride, ha). Funny enough, the V2 is now being integrated into the supersport class for competition!
Great call out, I’m going to try and get the filter in the coming month and schedule dyno time for both the Duke and the RC8C. Very curious to see how they stack up side by side on the dyno!
you measured inside a garage, the sound is bouncing around ( and the sound will be alot louder ) so those db measures are completely off. you need to measure it outside in the open air to get an actual reading.
Thanks! I really enjoy the bike, it’s a blast in the corners. If you do a full exhaust system in general you will need a map, slipon not so much. Try to get a deal for a discount on the Akrapovic system + map if you go for it 👍 I’ve got a bunch of parts coming in for the Duke as well, hope you subscribe and checkout the build!
@@vtranmoto yess is a big “heavy” bike and that headlight 🙆♂️🤦♂️. I love the lightweight and the agility of my 690R… and I think the 890R will be the same fun and agility but almost double horsepower.
@@vtranmoto did you have to install any Akrapovic map, or custom Dyno map after installing the full exhaust? Thanks! (EDITED) I already put more attention when you said it haves the Akrapovic map for it. Thanks!
We’ve had 4-5 street triple and currently have a 2021 speed triple RS; if you are doing double duty road and track, I’d go with the street or Duke. Recommendation is pick the engine type you like the most: torquey twin or smooth triple (though tbh the Duke is super smooth!). Can’t go wrong with either!! ✊💨💨💨
@@vtranmoto well i love triple engines, but i love the agressive looks of the KTM. So it's either looks or engine. Can't decide. And those are not the only ones I consider 🤣
Thanks so much Arthur. That’s a bummer about the 890 not making it’s way there! I saw that there’s a big Philippines KTM Facebook group - so awesome to see KTM riders in Asia and thank you for subscribing!!!
@@vtranmoto yeah, but we're lucky here too cuz KTM has a assembly plant here in our country thats why we are getting the 790 duke by a bit cheaper than the 790 duke assembled in India
Have you done the rearsets yet? If not, it's much easier to get the swingarm pivot bolts with an impact wrench. Otherwise, you will get one out and the other will just spin.
@@vtranmoto The stock pegs have a bad feel to them because of the rubber insert. I only changed the pegs on my bike but the process is the same. Keep in mind, there are no spare parts available for the PP rearsets as I understand it
You forgot to remove the canister that is under the fuel tank, should also be indicated in the installation instructions. And don't forget to put the Akra map if you don't want to blow the engine
@@vtranmoto I have the part # and installation instructions for the cannister delete kit from KTM. I know it was part of the Powerparts kit for the 790 but unsure of the 890. Lemme know if you need it. Edit: it appears the Evolution Line Kit from KTM does include the Evap delete kit. You can order just the kit by part number.. I think it's less than $40.
@@ironken1796 hi there! thank you!!! it looks like we have what we need to delete the evap can. Going to take care of that tomorrow night after our 4-hour minibike endurance race. :D Really appreciate you looking out for me :) thank you!
@@vtranmoto glad you have what you need. Good luck and safe riding on your endurance race! Happy to look out for another rider as I'm sure you have also done....we're all part of the brotherhood! Peace bro.
Haha yeah they did, so we ended up waiting for the midpipe to be sent down to us. No problem though, everything worked out nicely! You’ll like it, sounds nice and the blueing on the pipe is beautiful!
Took the baffle out, baffle in or out is more for noise regulations. If you end up modifying the whole exhaust system from stock such as changing the headers/mid pipe/muffler then you should definitely get a proper tune for it. In my case, we just used the Akrapovic map (we had the dealer install that so it isn’t on the video) and then we installed the exhaust ourselves.
thank you! yes we had the dealer add the Akrapovic map ahead of time since we knew the bike was going straight to the track (and eventually gridded up) so that was the first thing to go.
The Duke and RC8C have been good for us. The RC8C has a 890 motor and nearly 2000 race miles on it without issue (I change oil every 2-3 trackday and every race weekend). I can’t speak for long term, but it’s been good for the last year! In my opinion, manufacturing has improved across every manufacturer. Ducati used to be inconsistent in the early 2000s but they’ve improved significantly. Same with other European manufacturers like Triumph. If you go European, go with a newer generation!
hey, if you still have the bike could you do me a favour and measure the internal diameter of the exhaust pipe without baffle, I wanted to see if it possible to mount the Evo baffle on the slip-on, thanks!
So sorry to ask again just want to make sure cause this is my first bike, but as long as i map with the akrapovic mapping i can remove the baffle correct
Sweet video! Just got my Duke 890 as well! I got the Akra from the dealership as well. How did you get the baffle out? I didn't see an easy way of removing it?
No you don’t have to, for this exhaust system there’s a small bolt that holds the baffle in place, simple Allen key will do the job. You have to remove a rubber grommet that hides the bolt.
@@vtranmoto Unfortunatly, I just looked, and my akra doesn't have the rubber grommet... So looks like I will be drilling out the rivits. (Its a 2022, so not sure why its not the same??).
Hey man, I sold you the ZX6R. Think it was your brother who picked up the bike from me in LA. Haha I'm about to pull the trigger on the 890 R myself. How do you like the bike so far?
SHUT YOUR DOOR. That's so awesome man, hope you're doing well. Didn't you have a MV?? We love the 890R especially in the corners. If you're canyon carving in LA or trackdaying at Buttonwillow/Chuckwalla you will have an AWESOME time. I'd recommend getting the rearsets so you get more clearance. Definitely test ride one if you get the chance!
@@vtranmoto Thanks man, hope you're doing well also. For no good reason I sold the MV F3 800 and bought a 2019 R6 which I also recently sold. I currently don't have a bike. Test rode the Duke 890R and RS 660 today. Leaning towards the KTM. Hey sorry to see you crashed the RC8, hope you get it sorted and back in order.
@@-Cold-World I am about to sell my 2020 R6, its just not fun. The 890R has so much more soul and just a more unique style. Love the thing! Thanks so much, it just comes with the territory. Better than it sitting around! :D
Hahaha! Okay so I am a bit paranoid, I bought a new 2020 Yamaha R6, rode it for 6 miles, fully converted it to a track bike…but didn’t get to ride it for a few months. Already hauled it to the track and then tried to start it and it was completely dead. 🥲
@@vtranmoto thank god. Picking up a 21 890 on Saturday with the full system already on it and I saw something about the euro bikes having locked in baffles
@@vtranmoto yeah I’m US as well. Over in NC i just wasn’t sure if they changed them to import here or if it was same as euro. But yeah I’m ready for this loud beast.
It’s just a screw that’s beneath a rubber grommet that you can remove, believe it’s a 5 or 6 allen. This is for the full exhaust, I don’t think it’s like that for the slipon exhaust.
@@vtranmoto thanks man. Was the screw welded on? As someone says it's got a dot of welding..I know for a fact it's welded on the akra slip on (to make it harder to remove) but I hoped the full system would be easier to unscrew and wouldn't be welded. And that's the case right? Thanks
The full exhaust, it has a small rubber grommet that you can remove by hand then use an Allen key single bolt to remove; unfortunately I’ve heard the slip on exhausts don’t have that option.
The whole system came in two boxes and when we were in Dallas they forgot to give us the second box with the midpipe in it! Ha! The dealer was kind enough and overnighted it to us so we were able to get the system on without an issue once we had the midpipe 😁
It’s a full titanium system, required the Akrapovic map that the ktm dealer installed separately. Bike runs great! If you get a slipon you likely won’t need a different map.
Thanks for watching! It was right around $13,500 OTD with the trackpack. The Akrapovic was $1800ish OTD (separate cost). At this price point, I strongly recommend also test riding the Street Triple RS. Both are *awesome* bikes that are versatile for street, canyon, and track riding!
@@vtranmoto id love to put a full exhaust on mine but from what i understand the turn signals get disabled. Ill only be using mine for the street such a shame.
@@vtranmoto its not even that on my 390 i was gonna put on a full exhaust but dealership had informed me that when its remapped the turn signals would be disabled. Some weird feature im currently trying to find out if its the same deal with the 890r
@@mortmazon7011 that's really bizarre! oh man, well I already disconnected my rear blinker but let me check if the front blinkers work. I won't be near the bike for another couple of days, but I'll check when I'm with the bike and report back!
@@dungvuhong9847 I think that’s an exciting change! Especially for track/racing the 890R engine doenst have quite the same topend as the inline4 600cc sportbikes (R6, ZX6R) but a 990 should help and it’ll also let it compete directly with the Panigale V2 or other big twins. I’m excited!
