I'm a beginning Woodworker with a single-car garage for a shop....and want to be able to breath in Winter with the doors and window all closed.....I cannot wait to add this to my little shop. I LOVE my other Laguna tool....the Bandsaw!

Thanks for video chief. This DC looks beautiful. If I had a 30 amp breaker I'd get it, despite having a 1car garage. Keep up the good work man.

I truly believe most of those features are superfluous. A remote can be had for like $25 on Amazon. My filter has a crank at the top to agitate the filter media and knock dust off (literally a 5 second procedure). I never have to worry about over-filling since I use clear bags (which I reuse). The best thing I ever did was mount my unit to the wall since floor space is a premium in my modest-size shop (pretty sure the ones in the video can't do that). I am not, in any way, trying to discredit this video or 731. I am just trying to get across the point that the more integrated features something has, the more things that can go wrong and lead to downtime. Thanks for the content!

What model do you have? There don't seem to be a lot of HEPA 1.5hp dust collectors. The only other one I've found so far is the Dust Rite, which only has a wall mount option.

Good review as always. The value equation for this machine is on the pricey side as mentioned several times below. For 9cfm, payng almost 3 grand or more with the shipping is a bit over the top. I can turn a handle on cleaning paddles every so often for free. Also, to replace that HEPA filter after the autoclean paddles beat the you know what out of the filter pads, then that is probably a couple of hundred dollars. The unit is large, you never did show where you are going to put it. There is no way I could get that in my 2 car garage shop. By the time one gets all the tubing, connectors, blast gates, hangers etc. etc., one is looking at 5 grand. For a professional like you, certainly, for amateurs like me, probably not. Keep up the good work, I love your channel and the way you present.

Same here and dust collection was something I overlooked. Fastforward 3 years and supposedly I have asthma. All my life i have been an athlete....but not sure if it was the wood dust or a million other things such as Covid...cause i did get it a couple times... anyway dust collection imo is the most important aspect of woodworking, that and not ever ever coming close to a spinning blade.

Just my 2 cents. I worked in a professional cabinet shop and they had laguna 4hp sliding table saw, laguna edge bander, and the 2 or 3hp laguna pflux dust collector. The saw and edgebander are 10k$ + each and they were the worst. I'll never buy a laguna machine. Their reliability is not great. I've heard great things about their 1412 bandsaw but never used it so can't comment on it. I've only used the 3 tools mentioned above and used them daily and hate them. The dust collector is ok, not impressed with it. The remote stopped working after a month and it doesn't turn on sometimes. Only way it will turn on is if you plug it in and turn it on 1 sec after. This is a known issue from laguna and was told they are working on it. Anyways edge bander is great when it works but only does that 40% of time. Many reps have come out to fix it ands it still doesn't perform like a 10k machine should. Same with table saw. Tons of wiring issues and the dust collection on the saw it horrendous. Also 2 blown motors within 1 year is unacceptable for 10k saw. Their customer service isn't great either. Again I've only used those 3 machines and based on working with them daily, I will never buy laguna
@adamchesis7443
@adamchesis7443 2 года назад
their machinery is low end, you're results should be expected, good entry level edgebanders are around 30k sliding table saws are starting around $20k. Those pieces are made in Europe and they're great machines, I have an Italian slider, bought it 18 years ago new and it still cuts dead on 90. paid $13k back then but worth it. You can't run a professional shop with Chinese machines you will not last in business. between the poor results and down time you'll go broke

Hmmmm..... It's good that you're doing well with your business, and the channel. Especially, if it means getting free, or heavily discounted, products. That said, I'm not sure if your audience, that is primarily made up of intermediate, home-shop, hobbyists, are going to start springing for $3K dust collectors. Especially, if this company is having a hard time fulfilling orders. Not knocking the company....or this product's value. Just saying be careful how quickly you jump into bed with someone, as your success, and visibility grows.

Sure looks nice...but even at once every 2 years..which would really only be hobbyist replacement time...at $800 replacement hepa filter...I think I will pass and stick with Harvey Gyro....they get such little dust to the actual filters they basically never need replaced...just saying...
@DNGJustSnakes
@DNGJustSnakes 2 года назад
@David Takes It can be used mobile no problem if wanted...and even a better priced filter will still be in the hundreds...if you replaced that once or twice a year in a busy shop...that adds up fast...though the Harvey is more money initially. Nothing against Laguna...I love their products..but Harvey has most everyone beat for the items they sell and the value you get. I just wish Harvey made more products. I Harvey chopsaw would be nice..lol
@DNGJustSnakes
@DNGJustSnakes 2 года назад
@David Takes As a side note..I know 731 is being sponsored and I have no problem with that...but Laguna is not sponsoring me for anything so I try to get the most for my money and Laguna falls behind on many items...though I would buy one of their drum sanders in a minute...
@DNGJustSnakes
@DNGJustSnakes 2 года назад
@David Takes LOL...well..$800 may be a drop in the bucket for a busy shop...but throwing money away when you don;t need to is not what I would call wise business...plus...$800 would make a nice weekend away with the wife, money toward business growth or a couple gallons of gas....!!!
@DNGJustSnakes
@DNGJustSnakes 2 года назад
@David Takes In todays world of youtube and google..it doesn't take very much time to research a tool or price compare...as a matter of fact..there are several price comparison extensions for browsers and apps for phones...all this is easy peasy...and finding reviews of products on youtube and skipping to the end of the videos takes no time at all...especially if it saves you money or hassle. Just like sawstop....they are marketed well and there are hundreds of people that promote them on youtube and elsewhere...but in 5 minutes I found that Harvey is much better, comes with more options and upgrades included for a better price. I mean if you are so scared of getting a finger in a blade then maybe sawstop really isn't the answer...maybe a new hobby would be a better decision...lol...just saying..

I have really enjoyed your videos over the years because my woodworking journey began not long after yours. If you are looking for advice from your viewers, then I would say be careful with all of these high dollar sponsors if you want to keep with your original image. I would imagine that around 90% or more of your long-term viewers would never even imagine spending $3800 on a dust collector. Stay true to yourself and don't let the sponsors take over your dream.
@carlcarlssen4299

puk that if sponsors paid me and gave me free stuff to review, id be thrilled to do it on top of already making bank from an established youtube channel. The youtube grind is a tough one. Whoever comes out banking has to put some serious work ethic. I tried it years ago with a fitness channel and couldnt make a single dollar. I was trying to be a real one and didnt like the fake aspect of being a youtuber. Id spend so much time replying back to comments and people and in the end all for nothing. Youll never see those ppl ever in real life, plus theyre all hiding behind screens and dont even know their name or who they really are, plus dont get me started on trolls. If I were him I'd keep getting high end sponsors for a fact.

I'd rather see a review of products after 12m use. Explain what really works, what's nonsense and what doesnt work. Maybe I'm too old, but shiny paint and flashing led lights don't blow my (grey) hair back. Products that work like they are supposed to well after the warrantee period do tho.

The cones these units are two short and don't do good a good job on fine dust if you have a drum sander. I know at one point they were selling addons for the fine dust if you called about it.

I have the older Pflex1 that I have been using for two years and after talking to Laguna this morning, it is NOT compatible with the iVac switch. You have to manually turn the machine on, but it will turn off automatically from the Ivac. That is a major disappointment. Even my Harber Freight dust collector works perfectly with the iVac.

You hit the nail on the head with my problem. Cutting into epoxy gums up alllll machinery including circulating saws etc. they should come up with an idea to help keep things clear of the epoxy. That’s stuff seems to always stick and jam machinery.

So aggravated. I bought the larger version of these just before they came out with the new model. I had no idea they were changing them. Would love to have that filter cleaner. Very nice upgrade. And I’ve already had to replace my remote. The remote that came with the older model was junk. And love the audible on the full dust bin. Overfilled mine many times 😬. But still love my DC.

Do you feel that the upgrades are worth the doubling in price? I looked at this when you did your first review and it was about $1500. I figured I would save up for that since I felt it was reasonable for all the features. The new model is almost $3000. Way to much for me. Will probably get something else because of that.

Howdy Mr. 731... It's a cool looking collector.....for a "large" shop. But, unfortunately, it's footprint isn't small enough for those of us with a small shop. I'd like to see something from them that's the size of a shop-vac , cause honestly, the vast majority of us woodworkers have small shops, so that model is basically obsolete for most of us.

The footprint and collection drum on these is great but the cyclone design is just so inefficient i can't believe how much dust gets through to the filter. You can get a CV1800 for $300 less. More assembly and not mobile but the efficiency difference is well worth it IMO. Unless laguna can improve the cyclone efficiency it doesn't seem like a good buy.
