2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha AMT / AGS - Detailed Drive Review 

I bought Baleno Alpha AMT in March 2023 in Rs.12 lacs (including accessories, RTO charges, road tax, insurance). I have driven it 3000 kms so far. My monthly running is around 1000 kms (70% highway & 30% city). Here's what I found - PROS - 1) Spacious cabin with ample legroom for rear occupants 2) Sufficient boot space with hydraulic tailgate 3) Auto dimming IRVM 4) Excellent headlights 5) Very silent refined engine CONS - 1) I regret buying AMT because it gives mileage of 18 to 20 kmpl. I have checked tank to tank mileage many times. I drive with lightfoot and never cross 80 kmph speed. Still it is giving so less mileage as compared to manual version. One of my friend has Baleno manual version & it gives him mileage of 23 to 24 kmpl. 2) No youtuber will tell you this but the rear part of Baleno (near rear grab handles) is bulkier. So when I try to do reverse parking, it creates a blind spot in ORVMs and hampers judgement. 3) IRVM and infotainment screen are so close that it creates a big blind spot on windshield. 4) Manual car gives you confidence that you can control car even at high speeds. But that is not case with AMT. 5) Front seats have good lower back support but equally bad mid back support. 6) Auto start stop system is very irritating. Though Maruti claims that engine will stop 15 seconds after pressing the brakes, in reality engine stops after 3 seconds or 5 seconds.

The SA of Nexa in blore suggested me to take the leg off the pedal at the time of gear shift to avoid the headnod and it actually worked …. I didn’t get the headnod … so this trick kind of tilted me towards baleno alpha amt as I was totally against amt cars until then and also I am moving from baleno cvt …!

Maruti is not delivering AGS, some issue. No dispatches in last one month. Nobody knows what is the issue for no dispatches.

I've owned a Ciaz diesel Delta for 5 years. Want to change to amt. Visited the Nexa showroom but not booked as yet. Just one question, do the gears shift automatically on speed change and on start?

I bought it a month back. At low speed the humming sound inside cabin is very irritating. Rest everything is okay.

Hello, i own creta 1.6 diesel auto (torque converter). Recently, Delhi has banned the bs 4 diesel car. So, my creta is off the road now. I am planning to buy one petrol auto and considering the Baleno amt top of the line alpha with all the bell whistle. So, my question is the amt jerkiness will be felt as I am used to driving a torque converter with a diesel low end torque. Is Amt reliable in the long term as my running is a bit high (1.5 lac km done in creta in 6 yrs).

How about Parking mode in this Baleno AGS, I don't see any like CVT gets "P" mode. What to do while parking on slopes. CVT has P mode and in MT we keep in 1st gear. So is missing parking mode in AGS a concern ?

In 2010 my father's younger brother's son died in a bike accident. The accident reason is because of riding the bike at over high speed. He lost his control and hit an electric pole and he died on the spot😔 So my dear brothers🙏 and sisters🙏 Speed is thrills but that speed is buried our life😔 If you ride a bike please wear helmet avoid use cellphones while ride a bike and maintain limited constant speed. If you drive a car please wear seatbelt not only a driver all cabin passengers too. Avoid use cellphones while drive a car. Maruti should learn this k when other companies r stepping up the automatic gear box with cvt, torque converter, dct it makes no point for them to offer automatic at 13lakh price point. Haan they could given us the to choose automatic option along with cvt or launched it lower variants. Plus we don't have the option of turbo variants. Cmon even magnite is offering the turbo with cvt. Even altoz is offering dca with their altroz. 🙄😒. Pls dont cost cut on amt options. In this modern era automatic technology is a necessity in start and stop traffic and customers would prefer superior hassle free drivability when other companies r doing it u should be the pioneer in bringing new technologies to India if u don't do it then customers wl switch to other brands and it will hit ur brand value that uve been making over the years . Pls focus on driving dynamics, engine options, automatic technology and safety features.

Good car for city ride but looking at the price my suggestion is to opt for Tata Nexon XMA Plus with Sunroof. No head nods at least u can’t notice. 118 BHP and far ahead from Baleno.
