On personal front, the first impressions about the exterior design is that it looks pretty much mix of Jaguar F-Pace and BMW X-5 from the rear and side overhang design respectively.

A really great review. This CX-60 looks like a genuine alternative to the Euros (and should deliver much better reliability and cheaper cost of ownership). Only concern is the feedback of the firm ride. In Aus, this could be a real issue in our roads.

Cars these days are all pretty much very reliable. I mean not like torturing it in extreme condition (e.g. bad driving, poor maintenance) and expecting it to last for decades. Most cars now with good servicing can pretty much last for a very long period without salient problems. Its just like your phone, would you worry about the reliability of phone nowadays anymore? Probably not, its just technology has reached a very advanced level.

Nice review! I never considered Mazda (I'm a Lexus gal), but now, I am. I agree with you as far as the interior details of the one shown in cream vs the black. The cream is top notch in detail! Not thrilled with so many manufacturers putting out black (not fun if you live in a warm/hot climate), and creamy white (would constantly worry about staining) interiors. I know that there are those that prefer a touch screen, however, as someone who is barely 5'4", I appreciate a no touch screen so I don't have to stretch in trying to reach it. Seems the seat adjustment option is off for many people. But as you said, pre-production. I believe I heard a reviewer state that starting price was expected to be around $30k and could be priced upwards of $85-100k (plug-in hybrid with options added). That's HUGE! I'm not paying that much for a Mazda! Not when I can get a fully loaded Lexus RX for less (including rear sunshades, thigh extenders, rear heated/ventilated seats, climate control, etc., reliability and long term ownership). Nonetheless, I'll be checking on March 8th for "official" reveal. Thank you again for your pre-prod. review!

Good Review Paul. The CX-60 sounds like a great car to buy. It’s just the fake exhaust pipes and the second row leg room which I don’t really like despite the wheelbase. Pretty excited about the coming cars of Mazda.

Thank you Paul for giving Aus a glance of CX 60. Good work👍. Cx60 appears to be a great car. The seating in CX5 feels a bit less with thigh support and centre console sort rub the knees despite having a soft touch point in high end CX5s. Hope Mazda have taken care of this and add the adjustable thigh support.

The exterior is simply stunning. V. dynamic, minimalistic, sophisticated like a passionately trimmed bonzai. This soul red crystal or whatever it's named, is very common, but Mazda keeps improving it and when you see it next to ANY other car, it's like gold vs brass. No wonder customers choose it. It'd be my choice too, although that white one in the background looks equally great. Would enjoy to drive it everyday...

18:40 The 50L fuel tank is only for the PHEV. On the CX-5 the 56/58L fuel tank is only enough on the diesel and many are left wanting more on the 2.5L Skyactiv-G. This increases to 74L on the CX-8, which is great for range. My bet is that the fuel tank for the inline 6 engines will be somewhere in between. Possibly 65L.

Hey Paul, I was waiting to see your review!. What can you say about the new AWD system? I know it's a RWD biased system, but do you think it can be more capable than previous system? I know it's not intended for off road, but as many luxury SUV on the market, they have excellent AWD systems, with very good traction control to distribute power to the wheel with more grip even when probably will never touch a gravel road. So considering it's not for off road, do you think Mazda improved the electronics here?

Great design and leap forward for Mazda, I really like the design. I agree; the rear wiper should have been at the top of the rear window, similar to Lexus. The centre screen isn't touch screen, they moved the screen further back and removed the touch screen functionality. Agree that the white interior gives it a more premium feel especially with the wood and other textures. Agree I don't like the silver centre console...not too premium. Otherwise great car, excellent styling and tech.

Excellent, detailed review. Love your work. I think this looks great, and I’m a huge Mazda fan - of their cars and design philosophy. Not being an insider or having access to statistics, it seems like a bit of a risk, taking things premium to this level whilst at the same time mostly disregarding the EV wave. -But of course, that comes down to the actual price and the local specs. Talk about giving Australian consumers what they want, I’m still perplexed as to why we won’t be getting the CX-50. There they have the capability to give Australia what it would almost certainly want: a better looking, more premium RAV4 competitor. Maybe they have a handshake with Toyota or something. But, it would be cool. Or maybe they’re just mad? Like, why don’t we get the Turbo Mazda 3? We have the Hyundai Ns, the Cerato GT. You know what I think of when I think ‘premium/BMW competitor’? I think, great design that also puts you back in your seat when you hit the on ramp. The CX-60 looks great - and I’m sure that there’s a lot of us who look at the power to weight ratio of a Sorento and just want more in our lives. I hope it does well for them! I will sit here, still holding out on my tiny thread of hope that the new Mazda 6 will come storming out of nowhere in all of its RWD/AWD glory, low and sleek and station-wagony. Don’t make me pay those Skoda people their goddamn ‘package’ markups and then deal with their servicing!
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 года назад
Yea the supposed 2022 Mazda6 isn’t likely going to be a thing. I like my Mazda3 sedan but for a roomier family car to replace our Camry, the Octavia Limited Ed is a good choice. I like the sedan/liftback option but of course the wagon is there for those who want a SUV alternative. The service packs aren’t the end of the world and the 7 year pack extends the warranty to 7 years so that brings it in line with Kia for best in class.

@johnsteve1352
@johnsteve1352 2 года назад
Its simple, if you have that much of money you should go for 7-seat hyundai/kia, similar price better practicality. If you insist on buying Japanese ones, if you love PHEV, no brainer go for Lexus. For normal petrol engine, if you can accept the hideous infotainment on Lexus (even the new one and you can go and test drive), still recommend Lexus because you will appreciate just how much Lexus cars would retain its value in years. In terms of comfort and other aspects, I dont see much of difference thats worth choosing one over another.

@johnsteve1352 2 года назад
@@nephilimdj I dont understand why people still would choose Kluger. I mean it did have a history of good reliability but nowadays, all cars last quite long if you give them good servicing and not driving like a maniac. Kluger is super overpriced, considering its brother, Mitsubishi outlander, apart from its design and interior, a lot of them share similar technology with a slightly better 4wd system and comfort on Mitsubishi. Its just not worth 20k more for a Kluger, just because you are buying a Toyota
@User-cb4jm
@User-cb4jm 2 года назад
@@johnsteve1352 Just hypothetical - I’m no SUV buyer by any stretch but I’d probably avoid a 7 seater if I could. But yea if priced similarly Lexus being a luxury “brand” with Toyota reliability reputation, resale value would be good. I’d assume the Mazda would offer more equipment for the price to avoid losing sales to the NX directly. I can’t imagine the Mazda and Lexus being at price parity - I feel most people would choose the Lexus then if there isn’t anything else to tempt them. I’d also imagine the Lexus would be quieter and plusher as the Mazdas tend to straddle mainstream and luxury but hasn’t truly gone all th way until now. straddle mainstream and luxury and haven’t gone all the way until now with cars like these. Still worth it to see what extra bits of intangible luxury a Lexus would provide given most people would assume Mazda is aiming to be a slightly nicer Toyota rather than gunning for Lexus directly. Time will tell.

I would prefer they used black for the wheel arches CX5 looks must better... this is definitely not a homerun for the exterior.... btw as you would now all that extra wheelbase just goes to the distance between the front wheel and start of front door... looks like rear seat space is not different to a CX5... it also looked like it had a flat-ish floor for the middle seat... finally do you think the small armrest storage box is to do with the PHEV battery etc using up that space? maybe the non-PHEV would have a normal size storage area... the acceleration sounded good... sounds supercharged to me :)

I’m really liking the CX60! I just don’t know if the US will be getting this vehicle in any configuration🤷‍♀️

The US model will be a CX-70, which is wider than the CX-60.

4:40 It's the first time Mazda has done fake exhausts...... which is a pity. My guess though is that they will use both a real side exhaust and real rear quad exhaust for the inline 6 engines so they have the faux versions there are a kind of placeholder for those models.

It looks good. I know in the U.S. we’ll be getting the cx70. I know Mazda has said that their mission is to compete with the German luxury brands. I don’t know how it is over in Aus but in the U.S. that’s not happening. People don’t really buy Mazdas here.

It's relatively small company, but people do buy Mazdas in the US too. The smart ones... US date: "Mazda achieved its best year in sales since 1994, with a total of 332,756 vehicles sold in 2021. Mazda3, CX-30, CX-5, and CX-9 all achieved double-digit percent sales increases vs 2020" You know, in the nineties nobody was byuing Lexus...

7:08 Kudos to Mazda for getting rid of piano blank on the console. Any manufacturer that still uses the highly non scratch resistant material needs a good talking to. 7:50 The Mazda Connect software restricts the touch screen. This is borne out of many studies that show that touchscreens lead to significantly more impaired driving response than even a driver over 0.08 BAC. Using those studies, Mazda is of course anit-touch. But as a replacement, the Commander Control (knob) was designed for easy use with muscle memory. In practice it works very well and the infortainment is dumbed down to make the most of minimal rotations to do something. Mazda has no control over how complex Android Auto and Apple Carplay are though. They did force their "no touch" philosophy onto Apple and Android but admit that touch is required for quick use. This works very well in Australia. In Australia it is illegal to interact with phones. But some state governments are even starting to include in-built car maps with Apple Carplay and Android Auto as both are technically an extension of the phone and touching the main screen while driving is, as Mazda has found out, leads to accidents and impaired driving. Mazda has resolved this by allowing touch for both Android Auto and Apple Carplay when the car is stationary. This is completely legal in Australia as well.

We have Android auto in our CX-5 and not once not having a touch screen been a problem, we just use voice control. honestly using the touch screen while driving would be a pain in the arse.

Hi, I bought the 3.3L turbo petrol mild hybrid verison Takumi. Loved that car. They are offering me a "Comfort Suspension Enhancement Recall." I am wondering if that will make my car less firm? I kinda like the present ride.
