7:00 "Prettiest red in the automotive landscape" - Big call, but many automotive reviewers echo the same sentiment and I personally agree. I comes with a catch! This particular colour has a back story. I was lucky enough to attend the 2015 Tokyo Motor show.... and anyone attending would tell you that the star of that particular show was the Mazda RX-Vision done in this amazing red, that under the lights and reflections has people talking. Many approached Mazda and said they wanted a car in "that red". Initially Mazda said it wasn't possible. The car shows are painted by hand in a very specific way. It was designed to mimic the red from the Japanese flag, and be almost like flowing magma. But being done by hand in the way it was done, wasn't really possible in the factory. But they decided for this particular colour (around 2016) they would get some of their best painters to paint a car and they would motion capture the paint gun movements, just as animators would for something like a Marvel movie. They translated the human movements, back into the paint robots. So for each colour in the factory, normal movements are done until a car needing Soul Red Crystal comes along. The catch? The only issue with the colour is that it is so deliberate in the way the paint is layered, that car repair painters say it might be the most difficult car colour to respray after a repair. And some insurance companies agree, charging a premium for this specific colour.

@inodesnet
@inodesnet Год назад
@@K03sport Mazda uses a proprietary system from Aqua-tech which is a Three Layer Wet Paint System. This was designed to have the lowest CO2 emissions of any paint application. It might be that applying the paint in this way though makes it less durable. But knowing the cultures of Mazda and VW well, I suppose in many ways Mazda should be given Kudos for being environmental and responsible in their approaches. Sadly the best demonstration of the two companies and their culture was back in 2012. Mazda designed and patented the worlds first low compression diesel. This was borne out of decades of research at universities in the UK and India, but no car maker actually put research into product. Bottom line - low compression diesels are really quiet, have naturally lower CO2 and NOX emissions, but suck in cold weather (which Mazda did get around). But in 2012 Mazda decided to invest time in tuning their diesel engine to meet US EPA - which is twice as strict as Euro VI. During this time however, VW just decided to export their diesel to the US. Two issues here. The emissions were higher than Mazda's engine without tuning, and two - to pass the US EPA, they used a cheat that would later have their caught out as part of the VW diesel emissions scandal. It was to take Mazda 5 years of honest work to have their car pass US EPA - but the engine would have to be detuned so much, that it proved not worth the work. But at least their were honest. That said, maybe increasing emissions in their paint shop would allow for a bit of extra baking and hardening.

My feeling about the Mazda 3 Hatchback is that, 20+ years ago, it would have been released as a great-looking 2-door coupe, but - times being what they are, now - Mazda was forced to squeeze 4 doors into this design. It's an easier sell. But what it is, really, is what we used to call a "2+2", for 2 adults in front, 2 smaller people in the rear. The 3 Sedan would probably make more sense for a family.

No need to get those revs up to an insane amount before you can enjoy the car's power. Torque now! Torque immediately! Street racers can't stand that. Hi, Dan. Just wanted to confirm that the numbers in our video are correct. I'm looking at the spec data from Mazda USA right now and trunk capacity is 13.2 cu-ft for the sedan and 20.1 cu-ft for the hatchback, which makes sense since the hatchback's capacity would naturally be bigger.
@ragweedmakesmesneeze
@ragweedmakesmesneeze Год назад
@@MicahMuzio While technically "correct" I think that it's more valuable to compare the cargo space below the cargo cover in a hatchback to a sedan with trunk. Because unless you are packing the rear to the roof, taking the already poor rearward visibility of the hatchback to "non-existent" you don't have anywhere close to 20.1 cu-ft of storage space. As someone with bikes and kid and dog who used to rent a lot of cars, I had only one hardened rule. "As long as it has a trunk." Because it was always easier to pack my gear and family into a car with even a modest sized trunk than a supposedly roomy hatchback. This was especially true for the sedan versions of the Mazda3 and Ford Focus. Those hatchbacks were extremely small and near impossible to get my bike in the back with the seats up, whereas the sedan versions not a problem. (I take off both wheels on my bike for anyone wondering how I can pack one or more bikes into a trunk.)
@BeyondTheTestDrive
@BeyondTheTestDrive Год назад
Yea, the back seat is the 3’s Achilles heel. But with the seats down it actually beats the cargo capacity of even the new civic. The sedan back seat is less claustrophobic. So for a couple or single person who values the unique Mazda experience this is a great pick. We are quite enjoying our current 3 Carbon edition sedan long term tester.

Yet a clear winner for many who seem to be overlooking the value and options that may not be available in a decade Detractors to weigh on:. Rumored oil loss, or at least it occurs within the first oil change and levels out. Low battery indication if you leave your dome light on or doors open too long a period of time Cell phone charger in the center console you cannot put a phone and then stuff on top of your phone when charging it. Piano black accents inside scratches up within seconds of ownership A/C is described as tepid to underwhelming at best No cooled seats Pizza cutter rims/wheels (needs 235's) Rear suspension changed for more rigidity (was a Ford rear end) Front gauge cluster plastic scratches even with the mildest of dust (use a vacuum?)

I have the manual😁 premium '21 hatch in soul red crystal metallic and I'm struck every time I see it. I don't drive very much so I may see the car once a week, but it definitely is a beautiful color. I don't think mazda should use this Color on any SUV. The black trim doesn't look good and it kind of degrades that color.

There was a time when driving a Hatchback was a thing. Those were good times. Now, those times are gone. Get a CX-5 if you have a family!

I don't think this is a "family" car as the primary family car. My wife and I don't each own a 3 row SUV for our 2 kids... This is more a fun car for the fun spouse or something for someone who wants a nice, quick car that's comfy without being crazy expensive. I'd definitely take this over the new Integra... but I don't buy gasoline cars anymore.

It’s about tome for a redesign. I think they could do what Subaru and Toyota has done and just evolve the style they have had. They do need to make this bigger to compete and my god fix that c pillar.

I think the design is nearly flawless. I suppose everything must be kept fresh every few years to keep sales up, but the next gen wont look as good. I'd bet money on it.

This Mazda 3 is definitely Mazda's best looking car but Mazda keeps straying away from the beautiful kodo design language with the CX-60, CX-5 refresh, and CX-50. Whatever they design, they need to compare it to the Mazda 3 and CX-30 and ask themselves if it looks as good or better.

I disagree. I think the CX-50 is their best looking model. This is my least favorite of theres

My mom and I have M3. She has the base 2L in red and I have a 2.5L manual both hatch. In my opinion, whoever is owning or driving this in over a week and didn’t get to learn how easy it is to operate that knob for infotainment system is too incompetent. For me this is much better interface to interact with than those touchpad of Acura’s and Lexus’ses. I also agree with what Mazda said in one press that everything in the instrument cluster and HUD has to be a driving-related feature only. Hell, I don’t want to see in the HUD telling me which song is next or even the volume.

Micah is just too swole for the skinny seats. The hazards of being cover model material for Men's Health.💪😄 Seriously though, I've read that complaint about Mazda seats a number of times. Its like they aren't made for Western sized people. I'm 6' 3" and 210 lbs and tried the Mazda3 and Mazda6 last year. One of the main reasons I didn't get for either was the rather small seats. My old car at the time was a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer and it had a longer seat cushion and wider seat back. Ended up getting a Subaru Legacy just because the seat was big and comfy enough.

I am 5 5 130 and feel many cars today have seats made for my body size. I just bought a 16 Altima SR, the seats are a pleasure to be in it.

Mazda knows the US market wants their cars big. The tiny back seat isn’t acceptable. It should have been Sentra size on the inside.

You mentioned that you did not like that the Mazda 3 did not provide a touch screen. Mazda stopped using touch screens for their infotainment systems a few years ago do to a quality issue. The screens would generate ghost touches resulting in unplanned phone calls, radio stations changing, navigation routes changing, ...

Mazda3 sedan looks great, hatchback not so much. I test drove one and the seats were painfully uncomfortable. I don't think they're made for old people.
@davids1816

I sat in the sedan once and realized this is a CRAMPED car. It's pretty, I like the ethos, but it's just too impractical for me. If it went 0-60 in 5 seconds and got 35 mpg I'd deal with the space but not as it currently is.
