Completely agree with your comments regarding the steering wheel. Touch controls are dreadful. Volume control in particular is a nightmare. Previous wheel was brilliant. This is Mercedes saving costs. Bring back buttons!
I think the best Merc steering wheel was found in the cars from 2018-2020. Looked great and just the right balance between physical switches and capacity buttons (there was a two which you swiped to choose options on the main infotainment and driver’s display).
The biggest pity fall for this generation Merc is interior quality, everything creeks every material feels cheap, all you get for “luxury” is a screen, which will undoubtedly look dated in 5 years. On the other side, have a look the previous E or S class, it still looks modern and luxurious 7 years after.
The interior of this car looks and fits better in the C class than the S class. I have a W222 and my uncle just got a W223 with the White interior. The S-class interior is supposed to be wide sweeping from left to right. The W223 screen wastes too much space while the widescreen of the W222 didn't. The S class should have the EQS’ HYPERSCREEN.
Mercedes need to bring the hood ornament back. it was real classy and had an awesome presence which is sorely missed. and i do not want an iPad in a car. i want the car interiors to look like a car.
I think the exterior and interior design are HUGE upgrades over the W205, fills all the gaps and improves on the 205's quirks and shortcomings, I just think it's becoming too expensive now for really what's just a 3 series competitor. Although once people's 2-3 year leases are over, these will become INSANE value for money. So, I'll see you in 3 years, 206.
Between my wider rims to fill in the gaps and a Weistech tune, my w205 is like having an ugly child…even its bad angles I love now. In person the w206 c300 actually looks better without the AMG trim to me. My 205 is aging well against the w206 😊
Definitely agree on some of the notes, I do think this is a step too far into the everything is touchscreen operated direction. I would like to see more of a blend between touch screen and real buttons with tactile feedback. Also agree that the doors are very bland and needed something else added in the design. I will be interested to see your review on the new 330 model for BMW as a comparison to this.
Button controls and analog information panels were much more refined and simpler to operate. In fact with screens it is necessary to look away. With buttons, you knew and had in memory where each function was.........I miss them
Fantastic video Raz. Could really feel the passion back for AMGs again and the new AMG C43 looks very compelling. Actually think the 4 cycl turbo is going to be great in the C Saloon & wagon
I am a huge Benz fan and have ordered over 7 factory brand new self specd out cars from Benz. And I have to put this out here, the door panels are the most horrible design yet to be seen in a Benz car and the air vents does not fit in a C Class its something that could be in a B Class. My verdict is that the designer of the interior, seats, door panels needs to resign immediately! This is unacceptable and a shame to this brand, the quality on these door panels are on pair with a Kia. It's all squeaky and pure soft plastic I can't believe, Mr AMG did not poke on that matter.
i've owned a w202, w203, and w204 and ive loved them all. i almost started out as bmw fan but im glad i gave the C class a try, the 202 was beautiful and such a retro modern car, the w203 felt sporty and light but did have some quality issues, and mu current w204 has been totally bulletproof and solid! i wanted to upgrade to the w205 but idk if i can let my w204 go, i love the boxy design. I drove several w205's and they're great! The C class has always been the dependable choice in terms of german compact luxury sedans IMO
I needed AWD and a wagon, and luckily, Canada got the C43 wagon. I'm very happy with it, especially seeing the 206 changes and "downgrades." I'm sure it's great, but it just feels like it's missing something.
@@ddavideo great ride. Sounds the best out of the 3 German competitors. It's even great in a snowy winter. I those screens and the AMG pack with the AMG steering wheel controls and the valved sport exhaust helps make it better than the Audi S4 (better in snow) and BMW M340i (faster), for me
I drive a 2018 A250 AMG Line with Adaptive Suspension which in my opinion is a must if you like a balance between sport and capable handling and comfort. During the last service of my car I got an A220 non-AMG loaner without Adaptive Suspension and it was so soft and waffled through corners like a full-size 1970s American landyacht. The Adaptive Suspension in my A250 is amazing. When I want to drive in Comfort Mode (which I do 99% of the time) the car is comfortable BUT still handles nicely around corners. In Sport Mode the car completely changes personality: the steering wheel response becomes sharper and the suspension hardens up so you can drive much sportier and aggressively. I guess the moral of the story is: a standard modern Mercedes’ will be soft and comfort-oriented. If you want a sportier experience without getting a genuine AMG model, get the AMG Line Package and the Adaptive Suspension.
I really do appreciate your thoroughness and honesty. Sadly not the most common features among car reviewers nowadays. What would you go for in terms of driving experience itself, W206 or G20?
Every reviewer has a different style and target. Straight pipes and throttle are funny, smoking tire is driving, jayemm can give more of a rounded take based on a luxury Enthusiast vs manual person. I like Savage geese detail and humor. Rbr has amazing production and covers the types of cars I really like. Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, really german cars. But I also like that people focus on older cars, jayemm made me really like, the 996/612 scag. For Mercedes, I just like the brand design choice. Sitting in the car feels good. But when I see a person revisit an old car, I realize I can never buy something new when there are so many fun cars out there to own. But I love seeing Rbr cover new cars. Point is, everyone has to pick a lane, not enough time in the day to do everything. But it's good lots of people have different things they focus on so there is a wide variety of coverage and coverage types.
Great review. I would say your car wasn’t fully equipped with certain items. Burmester is not on your car, which would’ve given you the metal speaker covers (which look nicer than the W205).
Thank you for posting this video. Really enjoyed your honest review. I’m still a fan of physical buttons, not these touch screen menu. Will it tempt me from my 3 series? Certainly seems worth a look. Thanks again
My Uncle's W223 has the White interior and it's like Heaven in there. The default Black really doesn't show you how nice these interiors can be. The primary colors: Red, Orange, Green, Blue, Violet and Yellow should be offered.
The exterior styling of this car is, in my opinion, the best looking C class yet. however modern cars need to stop using gimmicks in place of standard BUTTONS for climate control and radio! Please!
The new 3 series had it completely right…. But same thing happened and with the new facelift they completely ruined what i liked most about the car. less screens and using real buttons for important tasks
Also, The w202 C36 AMG (aka the FIRST OFFICIAL AMG C class) is a rare car now since nobody took AMG seriously until recently, and the W202 C43, that V8 in the w202 was Magnificent! also a rare vehicle
Incorrect, Mercedes hasn't officially stated that the Mercedes C300's 0-60 is 6.0 seconds, and Mercedes stated it is 5.7 seconds. However, Mercedes-Benz officially stated that the Mercedes-Benz C300 takes 0-100 in 6.0 seconds. Also, that isn't AMG line spected. If it was, it would be manifest.
I may have missed it- Was there any discussion on how the 9g tronic shifts in normal driving, including in town- start/stops and acceleration/decelleration? Smooth? Unobtrusive (when not in manual paddle shifting)?
please review the BMW 5 series(530d or 530e) and compare it to the E class and the Audi A6 (you have never done a comparison video ) because not a lot of people buy high performance cars but they want the luxury and comfort of a nice car without being too flashy or loud. AND also i think the current 5 series is the best looking BMW in the lineup
Seems just silly paying this sort of money for a compact sedan. I mean, I love exclusive cars, I would by an E class in a heartbeat if I could, but these smaller and cheaper "premium" cars just seem to be a fundamentally weird segment. Compact sedans are for the everyday trip to work, and luxury Mercedes are for indulgence and quite frankly, being seen. This one is just too expensive to be just a drive-to-work-car, and not special enough to really feel like you've made it in. Just my thoughts
W205 c class and w213 eclass were better than the current generation. I thought the touch pad would be annoying on the w213 e class I have but they work great and they also kept the swivel wheel instead of the touchpad (although the big center touchpad is still there.) I find myself about 90-95% of the time using the swivel wheel for controls. It's just easier. Also, the physical buttons for volume and cruise control makes more sense.
Due to emissions C43 has been a 100k+ (euro's) car in the Netherlands for many years now (without options). 70k (pounds) sounds like a GREAT deal to me.
Never have I seen such a polarity between specs. The base trim is one of the worst looking modern cars in existence, yet all it needs are these crisp AMG Line bumpers and the transformation is complete.
I had a w205 c300 with the sport package. I was so disappointed, interior creaked, build quality horrendous, and finally the engine ticked so much. Finally the engine blew. I don’t think I can buy another Mercedes’ might be going a different direction and buying a camaro ZL1. So disappointed with the w205 I had. I feel like this w206 is going to be the same result the way you spoke about it.
Oh to add Mercedes’ doesn’t use leather it’s an extra they don’t add most of the time. They use something called MB Tex which is faux leather. 🤦♂️ I’m sure that w206 you’re reviewing is MB Tex as well.
Does anyone remember the original new car smell from the 80s and 90s in Benzs? What allowed them have that special scent? Was it the leather or something else in the interior? I heard it was the glue they used but not sure if it’s true.
thank you soooo much for addressing the stering wheel issue. Who the fuck made the design decision going from alumnimium premium materials to plastic touch shit. Just because of that i will opt for the facelift e class.....
When navigating with Apple Maps can you have the map on the driver display yet ? It’s been in iPhones since iOS13 that the iPhone can drive both screens at the sane time
Unpopular opinion: peak C-class was exclusive trim w205. I'm so tired of sporty benzes and tasteless "blacked out AMGs", give me a C220d with the iconic chrome grill and hood adornment and I'll be happy. The w205 in the exclusive trim is such a timeless piece of design.
No surprise the ride is uncomfortable although I thought the C may be better than the A. I changed my E350 Cabriolet for an A250 w177 and the comfort level is shocking. My wife comments every time she gets in how she hates how uncomfortable the car and the ride are. She still has not forgiven me for getting rid of the E350 Cabriolet.
W203 is peak c class, you are just thinking about the AMG versions. The w203 c220 cdi is probably the most reliable car ever, as proven by the hundreads of taxi drivers that managed to hit 1 million km in the things...
The steering wheel definitely needs to go away from this type of buttons. I was watching the head of the AMG one project say that they put regular buttons on the wheel because it would be too distracting without them. I get a c300 isn't an AMG one but if the company knows the buttons aren't optimal, why are they forcing it on us?
😂 they have dropped the quality big time in the W206. Welcome to the future , ask more £££ for new gen car and give less. Mercedes is becoming a big let down in the quality.
I've learned that W206 replaced the aluminum doors (of W205) with steel doors. MB was so proud to have essays talking about aluminumize the W205 and now it was only history
@@ddavideo they have dropped the quality big time. Since they were helping struggling comping like the Nissan/Renault alliance, good for them. Bad for Mercedes owners.
@@waleedhassan798 I have the S205 C-300 Avantgarde Edition. Compared to the previous 2018 C300-S205, the only set back was the front callipers. The 2018 has the big drilled sport brakes/rotors whereas the 2021 only has non-drilled rotor and base callipers. Have done the upgrade to active multi-beam (the car came without the active function as it was banned here in Canada) also.
What I don't understand about the people whining about the v8 being gone is, how many of could even afford a new c63? Ignoring the fact that I'm still studying and have no change at all, even if I were to be done and got a job, it would take at least 10 years of cutting and saving up to have the money for a c63. And people out here be acting like they get the latest c63 after every facelift.
Also completely ignoring the fact that the c63's are completely overpowered and unusable on the streets, if you want to stay legal and responsible that is.
