Best review I found on this new tent. You sold me on and I ordered today. This evening I received an email it is already shipped and on it’s way! Thank you and I am now subscribed.
Best info I have seen on the OSMO fabric. I’m looking at getting the Hornet Elite OSMO hopefully closer to summer. So this is good info. Also the VERY FIRST review I’ve seen in this new tent so way to go and get it out early
This is the best-detailed review out there for the new OSMO Dagger tent. Thanks for the inside look and your feedback! Just bought one last night woohoo!
This was the best overview of the Dagger Osmo that we've watched, nice work! We noticed you commented in another video that you have the MH Skyledge 3 dp. We bought one in 2013 and loved it so much we bought a second as backup/parts after it was discontinued. Hundreds of nights spent in that tent. Curious as to your thoughts on the Dagger Osmo as a replacement that would shave a bit of weight, or what you would recommend?
I think if MH updated the Skyledge with today's materials it would be stellar tent! But yes, so the Skyledge I have is the 3P but it's comparable to the 2P sizes of the Dagger. It has very similar footprint (rectangular) and very easy setup. Dagger comes with more bells and whistles and I loved the little windows on the Skyledge, though I had to reseal them after about 5 years because of delamination issues, but also probably why you can't find tents with those windows as well. Both have the Jakes foot attachment, but I don't like how the Dagger is integrated. Definitely a good replacement for the Skyledge IMO.
Thank you again for the great NEMO tent review! I've purchased 2 NEMO tents because of your reviews. I first got the NEMO Dragonfly 2P Bikepack tent for myself (solo) and the NEMO Dagger OSMO 3P for my husband's birthday for both of us. We love both tents because they both have the Landing Zone, which is an awesome feature.
So great first look!! Thanks!! Is the first video i see of this nemo osmo in the field. I already want to see when you make another video with more rain tests and more time of use! :D
just found your channel.... after searching for a review on this tent. just bought it and getting it next week. off to the Allegheny's in 2 weeks to test it out! Awesome review btw
Hello! Thankyou for a actual fun and fun review for real. I.had no questions left and truly u did a great job. U nailed it!! And im.a brand new subsscriber and looking so forward to.seeing the pup.😃
Very thorough review! Is the OSMO your favorite tent? Did you use anything other than the original Dagger before that? Your review just got the Dagger OSMO onto my free-standing short list! Love the concept, but that color! Eesh.
I rocked a Mountain Hardwear Skyledge for 7 years before the Dagger. I also like the REI HalfDome Plus but it's definitely too big for just Remy & me, but a good value for weight and space. My fav tent is now for just 1+ (dog) backpacking is the NEMO Dragonfly. I love the Dagger for a true 2P tent though so if I go with another person I'll take the Dagger because of the easy set up and rectangular floor.
For anyone debating the purchase, GO BUY ONE NOW. Haven't field tested it yet but I bought a Dagger OSMO 2 and set it up today - it is a seriously high quality tent. It is a tad pricey and heavy, but far more durable and intuitive a tent than 99% of 2ps out there for ~$550. And if y'all want the best camping pillow ever, check out NEMO's Fillo pillow. I can't stress it enough!
Hi girl, nice presentation of the tent. Do you have any more experience with this tent? How about resistance in wind, rain? And the overall resistance of the material to damage?
Hi @Jirka h. Unfortunately, last year I didn't do much backpacking because of severe sciatica so couldn't take out this tent for a good field testing. However, the design itself is very similar to the original Dagger so as far being good in a storm (wind/rain) it is excellent and has good guy-out points. The rectangular design also makes it more stable than one with a trapezoidal design. The new OSMO composite fabric should be more abrasion resistant than the previous fabric. It should be able to handle wind gusts up to 25mph without worry.
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Hi girl, thanks for your reply. I know a sore back, it's not worth anything 🙂 I am deciding between this Nemo drager Osmo tent (which does not have an official distributor in our country) and the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2. Nemo has some details better resolved, but it looks like the MSR will be more durable. It also has better transport dimensions, so it fits better in the trunk of a motorcycle or in a backpack. It will be a difficult decision 😅...
Thanks for the really nice reviews where there is only few information of Dagger Osmo. These tents finally started to distribute in the Japan market, and we chose 3P. We are looking forward to using it!!
Just found your channel - subscribed! Solid review! You really presented the details well, and the comparison is a nice touch. The funny thing is I REALLY don't need a tent! I'm usually a hammock guy AND I have a Duplex for when I slum it on the ground. But I like to stay informed on camping/hiking gear (or at least that's my excuse when I buy new gear)! *Adds to cart... Looking forward to watching your other videos!
What else are you considering? I bought the S2S Telos 2P, but I’m concerned about the flat top of the tent, so considering selling it and buying the osmos now…
A good review, but I think the water test wasn't needed because it wasn't the full weather test that I see others do as well as I saw the main video just talking about the features, differences, and impact to the world on NEMO recycle program.
The fabric of the tent sack is waterproof but it’s not seam sealed so would be more weather resistant vs 100% waterproof. With the poles out you could probably compress it into a 6-7L dry bag,
Nice review. My buddy just bought a Dagger 3P and mentioned the vestibule and I was confused as I didnt remember that on my Dagger 3P. Now I understand and see the slight design changes while keeping the name. Will be cool to see them side by side on Mt Shasta this weekend to compare. Thanks and keep up the good videos!
While watching this review I remembered how/why I subscribed to your channel. I loved your reviews. Always very thorough. Of course they don't compare to that awesome CT journey but sometimes you have to settle 😄
Thanks Richard! I'm interested to try out this tent during the spring rainy season to see if the fabric does really hold up to the claims. Could be a game changer...
20% off last - noticed a sale at a large outfitter store - of course! My local favorite store match the price. Wish I had bought the footprint- your review suggests can put the fly up first so I'll get the footprint and try that tomorrow!!! That's a huge value as this will be my go-to tripping tent hopefully the next 10 years Kayak tripping is my main activity so I went for 3P so if partner or family come along there's lots of room for two or even three - weight difference between two and three is negligible (I'm not a backpacker) - I went into the store and looked at the sample that was already set up plus the one in the bag and this is very manageable compared to what I've been using
Yeah really it's not that much more for a 3P if you want the room and not a backpacker. Even for a weekend warrior the weight split between 2 people is great.
That was a great review. I have an older NEMO dagger 2p and can see the benefit of some of the upgrades. Especially the door toggles. Those are so hard to clip up on the older version.
Great review, but a possible deal breaker for me is the inability to set it up on the fly. You stated that is possible, but how? The footprint does not have pole holes. Can you explain or demonstrate how it can be done? That is a possible deal breaker for me.
Hi Terry- I thought I replied to this comment but looks like it didn’t post. At time 2:51 I talk a little about Jake’s foot attachment. You can position the tent into fast-fly mode by unclipping the Jake’s foot from the tent and keeping it clipped into the footprint. When you go to set up, you just need to insert the poles into the hole or round insert into the Jake’s foot. You can see this at time 3:07. The greener webbing is the footprint, the yellow-green webbing on the right in the pic is the tent (you can remove independently) and the yellow-green webbing on the left in the pic is the rain fly. Hope this makes sense!
For 1 person (and maybe a dog) I would stick w the Dragonfly. The Dagger is a true 2 person tent, so it's a little big for 1 person, but perfect for 2 since it has a rectangular bottle to fit sleeping pads better.
Thanks! It’s actually fun not to be affiliated or sponsored because then I can be less biased or at least not be pressured. I usually just try to answer questions they don’t have answers to on the website or I see a lot of questions about a certain thing on their website.
What is this like in windy / cold conditions, ie UK for the half the year! MSR and Big Agnes are lightweight also, but not really suitable for the winds we get in the UK in the Autumn. I can see the fly sits quite high above the ground, and is cut back at the ends to provide some venting. My guess it would be damn cold in there at times.
It’s actually pretty good in the cold with higher bathtub floors on the ends to help block wind. It’s done pretty well in Colorado high winds but I guy out with rocks so the stakes don’t come loose. Since it has a lot of head space it’s quite tall so can catch a lot of the gusts but I haven’t had issues with it bending so far I think the poles will snap.
Thank you.. I’m really on the fence between the osmo and the dragonfly bikepacking tent. I’m on a motorcycle so the short tent poles is nice but not a deal breaker. If you had to pick one, what would you pick?
Ooo tough one! Especially considering you’re on a motorcycle, you don’t need to consider weight. If you want room and easy set up, I’d stick with the Dagger. The fabric is also a tad bit stronger so will hold up better over time.
If you are on a motorcycle, you don't need a lightweight tent... There are plenty of great options with heavier tents. I still use my old Marmot Swallow tent that weights eight pounds for car camping. Can't beat the space and waterproof qualities and the ventilation. And it is a three - four season tent ... however, it is 18 years old and discontinued. I have just repaired some holes my cat put in the fly. For backpacking, I am using a first generation REI Quarter Dome 2p (discontinued as well) but thinking of getting the 2p dagger or hornet (Osmo)
Thanks for the great review. Yesterday i owned my Dagger Osmo 2P as well. I did a test ptich and reviewed all parts. I currently missed the repair patches which are mentioned on Nemo´s website. Do you received any repairkit or patches? I only got a pole split for repair of cracked poles. I am from Germany and here its not so easy to reach out to Nemo direclty - i need to go over my retailer which as also not that good knowledge about such details. Thanks in advance.
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Thank you. I again reviewed all but i did not found anything like that. I guess its not worse to follow up. I will buy a set of tear aid patches. This should be the easiest way. Thanks for your answer.
Great overview, and you answered many of my own questions during the comparison! The one item you omitted was COST 😇. Is the Dagger Osmo 2P worth the extra spend for that "new car smell" vs finding the original on clearance for $150ish less once summer wraps up? Thanks a ton!
Many thanks for this review. Have you tried the NEMO Dagger OSMO 3 person? I'm looking for a 3 person tent and narrow my search into the Dagger, the 2022 MSR Hubba Hubba and the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL3. Which one would be your choice when combining quality, durability and livability? Many thanks!
I have not looked at the 3P but only because I have no need for that size. But all features will be the same but it will be wider floor space of 20” to accommodate another person. You would definitely want to purchase the gear loft to accommodate as well. I think the Copper Spur would not provide as much liveability given the trapezoidal base. It also has thinner material but will be lighter weight. I do have the new MSR but have not taken it out on trail yet so sorry can’t say much on it!
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Many thanks for your answer and advice. I wish you could tell me more about the MSR! Anyway, it sounds like the Nemo is a very good option.
Hello, thanks for the great review. I am 6'2" and going to go on some hiking trips with high wind and rain and out west into the mountains. I was looking at Nemo tents and am deciding between the dragonfly and this tent. I noticed you had both and was wondering your recommendation if I could only get one, thanks!
I do have both! Are you getting the 2p Dragonfly version? To save weight, would definitely recommend the Dragonfly. The floor length is 88” so you’ll still have plenty of head room as the head area angle is pretty vertical. The Dagger is true 2P so almost too much room if you’re just going solo most of the time.
@@Xerute then definitely recommend the Dragonfly to save the weight. It also comes with the gear storage overhead whereas the Dagger you’ll need to get the gear net as well. I have a couple of weight saving tips as well in my 2nd Dragonfly video.
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures That's what I have been leaning towards just wanted to get an opinion from someone who has both. Thanks for the quick response too
Hi, Can the Dagger be set up with only fly+poles (and possibly footprint)? It would be great to be able to collapse the interior part of the tent under the fly to allow it to be packed in the rain. Thanks in advance!
Hi- test, the Jake’s feet bottom allows you to set up in Fast Fly mode. You’ll want to make sure the feet are attached to the footprint first if it’s going to rain so then you can quickly set up the fly without having to get your tent wet.
Sorry, thought I responded to this but it must not have gone through! There is only 1 Landing Zone piece, but it is compatible with either side of the tent. You would just need to turn it inside out when you flip sides.
In the original Dagger 2p, there was no way to fit two 25" wide Nemo Tensor pads side by side. Are you saying the floor dimensions have changed? Were you able to fit two 25" inflatable pads and have them remain on the floor without 'riding up' the side walls or overlapping each other?
Floor dimensions are the same but I am able to fit them. I’ve had some tents with different tolerance levels where you don’t quite get the total width. Sometimes it’s also the design of the pad where when you blow them up they actually end up being more than 25” wide. If you already have the Dagger, the upgrade you’ll primarily get is the OSMO fabric, gate keeper clips, D style doors and landing zone.
Thought I responded to this but looks like I didn’t! Dagger is true 2P tent with a rectangular bottom. Lots of head room and bigger vestibules so it will be heavier because more material is used. Dragonfly is more of a 1+ tent due to trapezoidal base and less head room. Will be lighter though overall.
Do you prefer the Nemo Dagger or the Copper Spur? I'm debating between the two, I go camping with my 2 golden retrievers and I love both for different reasons. I'm wondering since you've had experiencing using both, is there one you like more than the other?
With 2 dogs I would prefer the Dagger. Bigger and easier to set up. The new one will have the Landing Zone so you can stick gear outside as well. With the Copper Spur, it also has the storage space on the end that is big but Remy always rubs against it and knocks this out. Plus hair gets all over it.
@@cmoses1308 I would take the Copper Spur solo yes. Lighter weight primarily. The Dagger 2P actually would be too big for me alone so I would want to cut weight if backpacking solo.
Yeah not really sure. I don’t think it was a weight saving issue, but more they didn’t think about it on the new designs. Maybe enough complaints in reviews they will change it in future versions.
How much does the tent weigh in total including stakes? I saw the Nemo website that they say it is 4lbs 2oz, but early reviews had said it was 3lbs 2oz
Hi @Spence Southard- I can weigh out total weight this weekend. It would include, tent, poles, pole bag, rain fly, guy out cord, 10 stakes, repair kit, landing zone and stuff sack. I think NEMO is updating their website as well so may have been an error. It is not over 4lbs.
They usually won’t say the # of hours because of variables involved (water repellency, heaviness of rain, wind, etc). But they’ll give the strength of waterproofness such as 2000mm for the NEMO Dagger vs 1200mm for the Big Agnes Copper Spur. 2000mm is definitely good enough for a 24hr constant rain.
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Will you scroll down and read the specs and tell me what you think about it . Do you think it will keep the rain out . Its a moto tent so you can put the bike under it at night and its a tent you put up inside it. There is a video that shows it . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XaahZWAXfz8.html Fly fabric: Ultra light UV-Resistant, Rip-stop, Fire-Retardant CPAI84, 10 000mm waterproof coating, 210T Polyester Floor fabric: Ultra light, Rip-stop, Fire-Retardant CPAI84, 10,000mm waterproof coating, 190T Nylon Inner tent fabric: Breathable Polyester, Fire-Retardant CPAI84 Poles Material: Aircraft Grade Aluminium 7001-T6 Pegs: Aircraft Grade Aluminium 7001-T6 (18 units) . www.lonerider-motorcycle.com/collections/shop-by-motorcycle/products/motorcycle-tent-mototent
So hopefully this can help! Dagger = big with rectangular base. Strongest denier. Dragonfly = small with trapezoidal base, overhead storage. Strong denier. Hornet = smallest, trapezoidal base, lightest denier. Lightest weight. Hope that helps!
You should be able to order from Amazon (link in description below) or an outfitter like REI. I'm still seeing shipment delays in a lot of equipment though so could be sold out or delayed in inventory.
Pause: do the cops ever bother you at the park for setting up your tent to test it, "You're not camping here are you?..no camping." I am like, "No I was just testing this tent." Thinking to myself, "It is day & park hours: why are you bothering me?"
Ha, no but I also went when nobody was there. It was at a forest preserve so not as bad. But if they did stop me I would try and point out the guy living in a tent by the bridge.
Yes, it's amazing that they don't have to use any type of coating to make it waterproof. Can't wait until the spring to give it a good field test in the rain!
@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures 2.5lbs for the standard xmid 2p and yes trekking pole or aftermarket support poles. 4 stakes, 2 trekking poles. Super easy to setup. Much easier than the LanShan, Gossamer Gear, Zpacks or Tarptent trekking pole tents. Most people take trekkong poles anyway so it is not really any added weight. The Xmid Pro 2p is 20oz if you need something auper light, but them again like most DCF tents it is expensive at $680.
