I remember on his scouting report, Kyrou's skating was referred to as 'McDavid-esque', and that's no joke. He's averaging over a PPG, playing third-line minutes; he's incredible.
@@HeavyMetalorRockfan9 I'd say that's true in the neutral and offensive zones. He's always look for the steal and has several breakaway goals. He can shoot from the slot with zip. He can make your goalie look silly and he can make the tricky passes. Still needs to work in battling for loose pucks and tends to turn it over a little but he' only 23. He's like a faster Tarasenko.
@@Mitch91PyroisB0SS No he's not. He averages about 16 minutes per game. The Blues don't really have set lines, so he floats around as needed, usually with Thomas and Tarasenko. That's what makes what he's doing even more impressive.
Yeah, Kyrou representing for the StL Blues! This young man is very, very, underrated! Hes very skilled, very quick, (as you can see), with and without the puck... and it should be stated that league wide recognition isn't too far away for the Blues superstar! Way to go Kyrou! LGB!!
I liked it when back in the day, the players wore a crest of their native country on their jersey. It gives the spectators an idea of the players background, and for sure these amazing hockey players have a lot of country pride! NHL should consider bringing that back. ✌🏾
Individual countries? According to the woke '1619 project', social justice warrior crowd, there are no boarders or individual countries. We're all immigrants that originated in Africa in someway or another.
I would absolutely love to see a variation of this event where they have to carry a puck throughout the lap. Mcdavid would probably win by 2 seconds every time but it would still make it more interesting IMO.
@@lunardaftxp9103 he lost by .1 seconds without a puck. Considering he is the best puck handler at speed in the NHL I think he wins easily with a puck.
I knew Kyrou at minimum had a chance to win this event. I’m not sure if he’s got the highest top speed, but he probably has the quickest acceleration, which in a competition this short, is just as important.
The track of this event is perfect for him. His turning in the corners of the offensive zone make him almost impossible to cover 1-on-1. He’s really figured out how to beat guys with his speed so he can avoid getting blasted. I’m not sure he’s the fastest NHL skater in a straight line, though.
First time I read a draft report on Jordy K. One of the first words to describe him was Roadrunner. As a blues fan I see it every game. The Greek god of speed
awesome....most impressive is that McDavid has prob the same time with a puck on his stick and Kreider is flying around 20 pounds heavier than the other guys
@@ImSKRIPZ - If you truly DO love hockey....as you SAY you do....then you'll love Kreider, too. He's obviously a good guy, and a hardworking guy, who loves the game.
Bunch of cry babies about McDavid not having the puck. Let Kyrou enjoy the moment. No McDavid wouldn't be faster with a puck because he's not trying to score 🤣 he'd have to skate around the net like they do In this event. So why give them a puck? It's supposed to be for fun
Kuzi isn’t the fastest skater, but the way he glides and circles when he has the puck is mesmerizing. Hard to predict where he goes and how fast he’s gliding, dude is a magician
Anyone knows how they decide the competitors? i.e: knowing Kuzy, i dont get why is he here and not at fountain face-off why is Huberdeau at the fountain and not at the accuracy challenge, etc.
@Joey Kelly Matt goes from a standing start to top speed faster than anyone! Not to mention the very tight circles he can skate around the defense. He's an exciting player to watch and the fans know when he's on the ice! Better luck next year- Go Isles!
Looks like McDavid took that second corner poorly, u can see he doesn't do any crossovers until the very end of that corner so he's just bleeding speed.
Let me summarize the comments for you: 65% of chat: Yeah, good job Kyrou! He’s an up and coming star! Other 35% of chat: Excuses for why McDavid lost the event, again.
@@mikescorpio13 I love to watch Makar skate mostly because of his edge work. In all the time I have watched hockey no one skates like Makar. Don't get me wrong the league has some fast skaters. I would love to the All-Star weekend change some of the competition. Do the faster skater maybe using a puck. Or do what Cale did in Chicago with the empty net goal.. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
@@marie2274 ive been watching hockey since i was 6 yo back in 1980 and played as well for over 35 years, sadly my knees are now swolling after 5 minutes of skating, but beside of Crosby not a single player have that edge work and change of direction like Makar. He is even better than Crosby at it in my opinion. He is the master ankle broker hahaha
Was there to watch it in person, was awesome! The 3 on 3 All Star Games were SO boring. When they can't hit, check or board players, it's no fun. I left after the first 2 games. The majority of the players are young, I was hoping to see 'older' players, but that wasn't to be. Oh well. Loved the Skills Competition!!!
I'd be interested if they put the same course on a grass field, to see what kind of time Alphonso Davies would hit. I'm guessing he'd get off to a quicker start and it would be pretty close at the midway point, but the skater would pull ahead after that.
Not sure why all the boys chose the crossover stance. I always used to start with a similar stance to the short track speed skating guys and smoked my teamates in AAA hockey
*Note* Larkin won by skating through start line start which shaves a second or so off the time . This here is a stand still start. Larkins record doesnt count and as you can see, he is not elite. So yeah, he's a joke ! There was a calculation done on it, and he would have ended up in the low 14s had it been stand still.
@@xtraplayer7281 they were allowing that kinda start back then as you can hear the announcer say. Also he took a bad route which added time. You can see how fast he is during a game and thats when it counts
@@ezio_Winchester Haha Back then. They did it one year ! He's quick, i'm not saying he isn't. I'm saying he is not the fastest ! Never was, never will be. And to compare that time against Gartner's just isn't fair. That is all.
Kempe looks like he can skate so much faster than that. Kyrou got WHEELS. McDavid didn’t seem to go that hard. Larkin yet again lost control. Kuznetsov just there to have fun
Ironically this and the hardest shot are now the few actually competitive parts of the All Star weekend. The games are a bit of a joke with players barely skating or defending and the 3 on 3 format just opens up a ton of space. The breakaway competition has turned into who can be the goofiest which has nothing to do with hockey skill. Maybe stop referring to it as skills competitions and just call it an All Star show or All Star display because it has become a little weak on the skill side of things in recent years. If they wanted to improve this particular competition though they should do a lap with the puck and show how fast these guys are with a puck. Seeing as speed skaters burn fast laps all the time, the skill part for hockey players is to keep the head up and bring that puck where you need to so lets make this hockey skill again.
