Nice to see a car reviewer demonstrate the lights in their videos. I always feel they're overlooked (even the washers). I always appreciate CarExpert's attention to detail.
Yea I am one who sold a LC200 and bought a Y62. I could not be happier with my choice. The only reason jurno’s have such high fuel consumption figures with the Y62 is due to their heavy right foot. As an owner who is lucky enough to drive it daily I achieve much better numbers than suggested. Over all what a GREAT car!!!
Seeing these everywhere now. Such an awesome rig. Taken it for some mild off road and plenty of beach trips, literally couldn't get bogged. Still can't believe they couldn't engineer carplay into the infotainment, that alone would make the phone/maps integration infinitely better.
You can buy a click n play addition now to bring up apple car play on the factory screen. For memory around $600 then does the exact same as any vehicle with apple car play
35k and 11 months into ownership and I couldn’t be more impressed. Ultimate Highway car. Sucks a bit of juice around town. Highly recommend a long test drive for anyone considering a ‘Cruiser…
Think of the interior as in a classic car. In the long run will never go out of fashion and in 25 years will be one of the main reasons why you would want to buy one. I have gotten used to it and now after 18mths of ownership I have grown fond of the interior. At least it is good quality.
Absolutely love my 2022 patrol.. i admit i wasnt that impressed with the wood grain and was going to vinyl wrap it but have not bothered as i dont hate it.. its an awesome vehicle to drive on and off road..
Agree with other comments on here, not updating that interior is a massive mistake by Nissan. A nice looking and functional interior is a high priority for me when choosing a car and it always surprises me how many companies get this wrong.
Bit like Ford, minor or any changes were made to the interiors over the years. I wonder if a Diesel V8 could be converted to add a hydrogen converter to make the fuel last longer.
The Patrol interior made me consider a Landcruiser 300, but then I drove the 300 which made me buy the Patrol. They drive amazing, mines due in June, 7 months wait.
@@jarrod1687 1. Price, Patrol was about $30 k cheaper. 2. 300 GXL seats were fabric and mechanical adjustable, for $115k you would expect far better than this cheap equipment. 3. Bonnet rippled whilst driving only 60 km/ph meaning flimsy, 4. Drive was harsh, no longer feels like a solid car, feels more like a Prado (more evidence Toyota is cheapening it’s build), 5. Plastic underbody protection and aluminium door panels, 6. Whole new engine design, Toyota has a poor history of new design with many prior series experiencing significant flaws, 7. Timeframe to get a new car, dealer said more than 12 months possibly 18 months, 8. Infotainment system was very complex. Patrol, 1. Price through fleet buyer $84 k driveway, 2. Delivery approx 6 - 8 months, 3. Solid big vehicles, feels like a solid car, 4. V8, not too bad on fuel but great V8 feel and sound, 5, leather electric adjusted seats, 6. Looks, not perfect but better than the 300 (personal choice), 7. Lots of aftermarket upgrades accessories available- far more than the 300. Only disappointment was its wood grain and infotainment but for only $1500 all can be upgraded if I want.
@@jarrod1687 Got my Patrol 4 weeks ago. Put bigger wheels and tyres also 3 inch stainless exhaust. It looks great and drives amazing. Exceptional in sand. Not bad on fuel, Hwy 13 L per hundred, city 15 litres. I’m happy with that
For under 3k you can add a new instrument cluster, new centre infotainment unit with apple car play etc and even then it’s still cheaper then a Gx landcruiser with nothing.
Once again, a Patrol review and no mention of towing ability. I would suggest a lot of buyers of this vehicle do it for towing. Me personally I have nearly no interest in the technology, I have a 2017 Ranger with the tech pack. I have tried all of its tech and ended up turning them all off. Some of it is just dangerous. I want a simple tow vehicle. Can you please do a tow test and explain why we should buy this over a Landcruiser, Ram or Silverado. Would be a great help to those of us researching tow vehicles for our grey nomad years.
Absolutely agree. I sold my Landcruiser because it would use 25 to 35 litres per hundred k towing my 2350kg tare caravan My 2014 Colorado averages 16 litres with fully loaded caravan. When a big lap is 18000k the fuel price difference is huge. The interior bling is almost irrelevant to me. Being a tow workhorse is everything.
@@rosewood1 I towed my 2.5T caravan with a 4-cyl diesel Amarok for a couple of years and averaged around 16-17 L/100km when towing. Bought my new Patrol Ti one month ago and I am seeing 19-21 L/100km towing the same caravan. For the slight increase in consumption, but using cheaper petrol over diesel I would not go back. The smoothness and comfort level inside along with the performance on tap is on another level. Hills present no challenge and no raucous diesel engine revving it's head off. To each his own, just my real world experience.
Great review! Land Cruiser definitely is attractive with diesel engine . However, the Toyota is just too greedy. If Nissan can offer a similar 4X4 with less than $100,000, then the asking price for Toyota of $150,000 is simply a rip-off!
you're arguing in bad faith! the Badge number you're comparing the 2 with is the Sahara, but you should be comparing the Patrol to the Land Cruiser GXL in which the GXL is more comparable at $110,000
@@MrGameDestroyer12 Hey mate, that's interesting. Most of the previous reviews I've seen on other channels were comparison between TI-l and GXL. But when you actually look at the features, and what you get in the models, the GXL is no match. GXL is not even close to just TI.
the exterior still looks good but the interior on the right-hand-drive is okay it's average so the left-hand-drive version is slightly nice i think it's still a good all-rounder despite in this age
Agree! If you spend an extra $2000 a year extra over an LC300 on fuel, considering you'll save up to 50k that's 25 years worth if fuel. Enough time to see deisel cars in Australia go they way of the dinosaur.
I picked up a 2021 Y62 and had heaps of trouble with the torque converter. RPM fluctuations. They bought it back. Get my new one this month. Choice was easy for me. When you get in the car and drive it, it feels like a big sports car. The woodgrain is the last thing on your mind. If you drive a 300 s, you need all the fancy crap to take your mind off the fact that the car is not exciting to drive. Land cruiser drivers normally have small hands anyway.
I LOVE MY PATROL. I have owned Toyota, VW and Land Rover and this Patrol is so much better. The engine is bliss and performs beautifully on the highway.
I do love the look of it more than 200 or way more than 300. Black patrol looks VIP to me😁😍 if I was choosing between 200/300, I would go to Y62 in Black or white will all bells and whistles😁
If it wasn’t for the interior, I’m sure many considering the 300 series would opt for the patrol. Quite frankly, for $95k, it’s not good enough. If wait times were reasonable, I’d opt for a prado VX, and use the remaining $12k for some mods or towards a caravan.
As someone who has now had 2 Y62’s I don’t mind the outdated interior. The buttons and dials are easy to use off-road. The more modern interior is less user friendly on rough roads. The stereo and sat nav are horribly outdated but value for money the Patrol is awesome
Considering the Patrol is still made in Japan (a RHD market), very surprised that they didn't make a RHD version of the new interior. Is it because, Australia is the only RHD market that's still buying the Y62? I wonder how many Y62 orders were cancelled, since petrol prices started frequently exceeding $2/L?
Just took delivery of a TI to replace my LC200 as the main tow vehicle for large combo horse float. Keeping the 200 for fun as It’s never let me down and just keeps trucking.
1. Between Kia Carnival and Nissan Patrol - how does boot space compare? 2. Between Kia Carnival and Nissan Patrol - how does comfort for a family of 6 compare? 3. Between Kia Carnival, Nissan Patrol and Toyota Landcrusier - which lasts long without much issues and has good service? This is coming from a man who loves to take care of his cars. I have a toyota yarris 2009 and it's in mint condition. It has lasted me for a long time and nearly has run 400000ks no issues at all I find Nissan patrol tempting especially V8 part as Kia is a V6...
Had a LC300 Grs on order, they put the price up $10k while on wait list; now 160k drive away. I cancelled order, test drove a TiL; order placed. Drive away price difference of 60k
I think the Patrol is the better option, especially considering you can basically get the same features compared to a land cruiser which would be an extra $30k - $40k. If the Infotainment does annoy you, which it does for me quite a lot, you can get aftermarket options for only a couple of thousand. Think the Patrol wins and I can see why they’ve outsold the Landcruiser the last few months
Hey Paul, you can actually fit a big bottle on the centre console, just need to lift that small plastic sleeve (adaptor) which is installed by default ;)
Personal opinion but I love the old school look, value for money under 100k compared to a 300 series which you can’t even get anyway,no wonder people are buying the Nissan…..
Who cares if it's comfortable, capable and has a smooth v8 , if you want gadgets buy a Tesla, it's because, i am guesing we're the only big right hand drive market for a car like this
@@hamishfullerton7309 many people do care though, hence the waiting list for other cars, but hey if you're into 90s tech and paying a premium for it by all means.
@@jasonpb27 look I can understand with 70 landcruiser ute ,they really are dragging the chain it's a 80s interior, 70s chassis, you pay $100000 for it and the v8 diesel is relatively thirsty and has less power than many 4 cylinders in the class .However with the Nissan it's not on the same level, they only stopped making the old one 5 years ago, there plush comfortable and the motors are very willing, give me this over an Mg loaded with gadgets and black plastics are you buying a computer or a car🤔
I'd have bought one long ago if it wasn't for the paint problem. Nissan has had to respray a huge number of each generation under warranty. It's a problem that should have been fixed years ago, but they just don't seem to care and push most cases into a knock-down-drag-out battle between the customer, the dealer and Nissan.
Let's face it, why would Nissan spend the millions of dollars putting the updated interior on a car that is going to be replaced in a couple of years. Won't happen. The VK family of V8s always sound great
I got to 4:33 and stopped watching. If Nissan can't be bothered updating their interior, I can't be bothered considering the product. Landcruiser here I come.
@@thelonewolf666 Each to their own of course, but that dashboard and interior is hideous and for me personally, the interior is definitely something that improves (or can reduce) the pleasure of the driving experience. If you're purely driving A-B I get it... but either way it's disappointing.
@@thelonewolf666 Makes sense - I should clarify that I'm just disappointed in the decisions made by Nissan - not that your purchase is a bad choice. I'm sure the car is good otherwise.
I desperately want nissan to stick the updated interior in this from the US armada and make a warrior-esque version for the aussie market. Good for sending it on dunes.
I’m done with turbo diesels, just love naturally aspirated V8’s and there are just so few available. I think this is incredible value for money. Just wish they could bring it to Australia and South Africa with the updated interior.
Still incredibly impressed by the Y62, but do agree on the outdated interior. You can now install a whole new modern centre stack with mod cons and a digital instrument cluster. All shown on Y/Tube and very impressive!
I have no issue with the interior. Cars are making me sick with the amount of unnecessary crap they have because people are brainwashed into thinking they just HAVE to have X feature. If you've got Bluetooth and cruise control what more do you need?
@@AP-ow5vu and I do that in my 10 year old falcon, but buying a brand new vehicle in 2020 I’d expect it to at least have CarPlay. The bottom of the range MG hatchback has it ffs. I agree there’s plenty of useless crap in cars that people have been convinced they must have but being able to connect my phone to the car for audio and navigation is very useful. Not to mention it’s legal for me to use the head unit to navigate through music or podcasts and maps. It’s illegal to touch your actual phone while driving.
@@lahmyaj Wake up pal. You're getting a true full size 4wd with a 5.7L v8 with 298kw, a 7 speed auto, leather interior, diff locks etc for $90,000 which is a great deal. Go see what you get from Toyota for that price... maybe a prado which would have a couple of interior features you're addicted to but you're getting a smaller vehicle with a 2.8L diesel.
I’d rather the patrol than a 300 Sahara. The 300 Sahara feels compact compared to the cavernous patrol. Honestly this is the perfect example of old school trumps the latest and greatest. The family would be a hell of a lot more comfortable on a round Oz trip over the 300. My wife sat in the Sahara and then sat in the Patrol and the Patrol blew her away. She actually said why would you buy the Sahara over this. Patrol for us. We’ve been a Toyota family with previous landcruisers in the driveway over the years.
