Seems like the darkness caught Ryder as the (half- main character) for the price of mayor humdinger because after the darkness took over the town of Adventure Bay ........... Mayor humdinger tried to escape, but couldn't...and joined the darkness (as friends) and then attacked his kittens, and everyone else in the town (including Alex, Mayor Goodway, Captain Turbot, Mr. Porter, Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, and Skye) leaving Chase as the only survivor.
