Considering how many horror stories you hear from moving companies, PODS definitely seem like the best choice. The extra cost is really worth the peace of mind. Last thing you want to hear is your truck in a completely different state lol.
@mbash26
@mbash26 Год назад
Yesss! That was my biggest worry. I had heard so many stories about moving trucks either arriving weeks late, destroyed, or not arriving altogether. This was definitely the less stressful route.

I will be using POD for the second time… the first time went smoothly. The only thing that I didn’t like was, and this is the same with a lot of businesses, they quote you a high price, and it is only when you do not choose the quote, only then will they quote a lower price. My first POD experience, I paid a little under $1800 for small container three years ago. Now, for the same size, they wanted a little over $3000! I know prices have gone up on everything, but still…that was a big jump, in my opinion. Then, at another time I requested a quote with a coupon, which did not reduce price that much because coupon cannot be applied to transportation mileage which is the bulk of the quote. So, it wasn’t until I received a call from an agent that stated she could get a better deal, did I eventually sign contract- now the quote is a little over $2400. I saved about $200 because I am foregoing the first delivery of container due to not having room at apartment complex for delivery. Now, my stressor is hopefully there is enough room on small Container for all my contents. Few more weeks, and this will be all behind me… moving cross country is expensive and can be overwhelming 😢

It is so overwhelming and expensive! I couldn't believe how much it was for us either, but other places were quoting similar prices as well. We did everything on the phone and already had a discount ready, so can't say much else on the quoting experience but I'm glad you were at least able to get it down slightly!

This is a really good video, very informational. I’m planning to move from CA to TX next year, and been thinking about using Pods instead of a moving Co because with all the info I’ve heard, this is less stressful and convenient. I’m also planning to buy a house in TX, so the storage of the Pod will be great. As you’ve been moving a few times to other states, what other recommendations or suggestions in general would you give?
@mbash26
@mbash26 Год назад
Glad this was helpful! Honestly, I've heard so many horror stories about moving companies (losing your stuff or arriving months later, etc), that a moving a company was never really one of my options. It was always between hauling it ourselves or the PODs. I really do think for the money and because of the driving distance, the PODs were so worth it to us. Either option, you're packing the items yourself, which I think is important, but not having to drive it ourselves was a big plus. There was the worry of the items getting lost or being very late, but PODs had great reviews when it came to that and they were very transparent about where your POD was at any given moment.

$ 2322 for transportation mileage is very expensive for those not in the military, it is convenient though.i have pcs 2 times used uhaul from Fort hood Texas to fort carson colorado 1582 miles paid 1800 dollars. What i do i call weeks in advance to storage units get the best price, book the storage unit free of charge most storage units you reserve and only pay once you get there, go straight there and inprocess after and start house hunting after that. I would see where pods are better, you pack your house and they take care of the rest, stress free.

Thats definitely a good method if you have a little more time and patience haha. We had pets and vehicles to also drive, so this seemed like the best option in order to not have to do the drive multiple times.
@kathleenwalker1398

My only complaint was the $350 charge to drive the pod 47 miles back to their destination.
@mbash26
@mbash26 13 дней назад
Yeah, it seems like nickel and diming at that point, but I imagine even if they didn't break it down like that, they would have put it into the total transportation miles price.

Discount is smoke in mirror.. I have a quote from moths ago no discount and a quote with discounts ... same price then and now....
@mbash26
@mbash26 Год назад
That's interesting... I'm wondering if that's why they told me that we were supposed to bring up the discount at the beginning of the call.. So that they could have given us a "discounted" quote to begin with.

Helpful video, thanks. You mentioned that PODS was on time, do you mean dropping off the empty PODS on the day within a specific window? Or do they simply say "The PODS will be delivered sometime throughout the day on X day?" Also when they come to pick up the FULL PODS are they on time (within reason for example a 4 hour window)? The container is 8 feet tall but towards the opening where the roll up door is, do you lose a little bit of height because the door is there when the PODS is open?
@mbash26
@mbash26 Месяц назад
Hi there! I'm trying to remember as much as I can about the small details as it's been over 2 years now, however, from what I do remember, they offered a 4 hour window. They called us about 30 minutes out to let us know they were almost there. I don't remember there being any issues with timing. I think this was the case for both the drop off and pick up. You definitely do lose a little bit of height because of the way it's rolled up. I don't remember if I mention this in the video, but we weren't as mindful about that. We put things pretty close to the door and things shifted (specifically a box) and blocked the door from rolling up. It was a disaster opening it up. I'd say you probably lose about a foot of height toward the front, maybe about a foot away from the door.

I considered using PODs moving containers but the quote was super high - basically pro-mover territory ($16k) to move a 5 bedroom house from Orlando to Colorado Springs using three large containers and one small container. Instead, we are going to try out the U-Haul U-Box - which is a lesser product for sure (steel vs wood boxes) but considering the price - it is hard to pass up ($6k for 10 U-boxes).
@mbash26
@mbash26 Год назад
Wow it seems the prices have become outrageous! Granted, we only got one large container but if we needed multiple, I don't know if we would have chosen it with those prices! Good luck with the Uhual, that sounds like a good deal!

Coincidentally, I am doing a nearly similar move (Montgomery AL) to Colorado Springs. My daughter just started her Air Force career at the AF Academy. With 30 years on active duty, I had a lot of moves. I have done both Pods and letting the military do it. What was the cost of your move, and which company did you go with? Pods quoted me $11,600 for three 16-foot pods, but I can’t remember if that included gas. That was a month ago. I already bought a house and will be moving less than two weeks. Penske has a 26-foot trailer for around $1500 before I negotiate. Thanks for your advice.
@JasonTaylor-po5xc
@JasonTaylor-po5xc 7 месяцев назад
@@markbennett8685 We ended up needing 13 UBoxes (2 for apartment, 11 for storage/house), which required two trucks for transport, so the fuel charges were a bit higher (closer to 10k). We also had issues with figuring out how many boxes we could have at each location at once. Orlando required them on the driveway. On the delivery side, our builder required them in the street. My guess is the other options would have scaled up accordingly too. If I was going point-to-point, renting a couple 26-ft trucks plus hiring help probably would be the better/cheaper option. But, we needed to store our stuff for 6 months while our house was being built. Any longer than 6 months - might be better to move into a storage unit then into the house.

Thanks for watching! We drove my car from IL to MA and stayed at a hotel halfway. A big reason we liked the PODs instead of uhual was because with the latter, we'd have to drive the truck and our car and we would be driving separately.

Hi Monika - when you say you'd put a tarp over everything, do you mean over the top of all the boxes once it's packed or also under the bottom of everything as you move it into the truck as well? How do you avoid the dust? I'll have a nice leather couch that I'm not wanting to be covered in dust.
@mbash26
@mbash26 Год назад
Hey! I'd recommend laying a tarp down before you begin moving. It's not going to stop the dust completely but it will keep it from flying off the floor which was definitely a big source of the dust. I imagine it will still be fairly dusty in there but this will definitely minimize it. I would also get some sort of furniture cover (I think they make like plastic covers for couches). Definitely individually cover any item you're concerned about because it will get dirty.

This is a wonderful video; thanks for doing it! My POD will be delivered next week. I ordered a 16', but like you all, I've thrown and given away so much -- most of my house to be exact. I don't think I'll need all 16', but a 12' POD costs the same as 16'. I also don't want to go down to 8' and not have enough space. Any suggestions?
@mbash26

About how many rooms worth of stuff do you think you have? Even though the 12 costs about the same, I'd definitely consider it as an option. You'd rather your things be tightly packed rather than spaced out with room to move around during shipment.

There may be different types of contracts you can set up with them, however, ours was delivered to our new house. 1. Dropped off at house to pack up 2. Picked up from house and brought to a local storage station 3. Once we knew the date of our new house closing, we called them to schedule a transfer from IL to a MA local storage station. 4. We got a notification when it arrived at the MA local station. 5. Once our house closing was confirmed 100%, we called for drop off at new house. 6. POD was picked up from New house a week later.
