The results are in, the Downtown track is horrendous.

I am going to really miss this track... For a road course it has given us great races with a ton of passing and great strategies... I hope the downtown circuit races like this but I doubt it... most road courses don't... this has been my favorite road course since they lengthened the straightaway between turns 2 and 3... I will miss this track!

It was a great last race for Belle Isle's send off... but I'll never forget last years races, especially Pato O'Ward's Sunday race win...

Same in Malaysia here too bud. Ever since Fox Sports Asia is no more, we don't get live Indycar broadcast anymore. Which sucks.

They usually rush the 5 minute video just after the race ends. They upload a 30 minute video the next day or two. If I were you, I'd wait for that one in the future to not spoil it!

Love that the appeal of IndyCar is reaching Asia already, as well as Europe. Hope that live coverage reaches you guys soon.

Some of my buddies who are f1 fans are recently following indycar due to Grosjean & with Ericsson winning the Indy500, interests are gonna continue to climb. I just wish Indycar could finally travel to Asia and maybe race at Sepang. F1 doesn't race here anymore, so Indycar can swoop in and make Malaysia it's SEA leg of the asian tour.

F1 fan trying to get into Indy here. What are the key strategy elements I should watch for? It seems more diverse than the F1 undercut party.

@@thiagoveloso7610 Also an F1 fan! 2022 F1 has been really fun to watch. The two series are, other than both featuring formula style cars, really incomparable. When I see people fanboying one series or the other I really don't get it. F1 is a technical championship, where teams compete to build and race their cars. Indy is a almost-but-not-quite spec racing series where all teams compete with very similar hardware. This leads to more interesting cars in F1 but better overall racing in Indy. One way the series are similar is that they both require teams to run two different compounds of tires during the race. However, unlike F1, Indycars do not carry full fuel loads and instead have to pit many times during each race to refuel. So, stints can be either limited by fuel or tires. At Detroit, the red sidewall tires (softer) were discovered to wear incredibly quickly leading to rapidly deteriorating lap times whereas the black sidewall tires worked really well over long stints. Many teams opted to go for the red sidewall tires at the start of the race, for the first few laps, they had a huge advantage ran over drivers on the black tires. However, after a few laps, the script flipped. The red tires fell apart and now the drivers on black tires charged through the field. This was the first point where strategy played a part. Some teams opted to pit immediately and switch. This let them get off of the red tires sooner but meant that, due to fuel limitations, they would still have to pit 3 more times. Other teams opted to stay out and suffer slow pace so they would only have to pit two more times. TL;DR, the main winners in the end were the drivers who started on the black tires. Will Power won the race by going black, black, red. Dixon and Palou did similar and came 3rd/6th. Newgarden, who started on pole but did red, black, black, only managed 4th. Its worth noting that every track ends up being a little bit different. Sometimes, the track isn't as hard on the tires so the reds end up being the tire to be on for majority of the race.

@@ejcourtemanch2689 it's easy to compare the two main formula series, but they do indeed have different aproaches to car racing (F1 = car and Indy = racing). Thank you very much for the explanation, it seems like indy drivers can work well with both undercut and overcut bc of the higher number of stops. I imagine one of the three stops was just for refueling, since the drivers seemed to follow a Red-Black-Black or a Black-Black-Red strategy. Since a stop in Indy is way longer than in F1, maybe it won't worth the hassle of changing the tyres

He really killed it. Both the strategy and his pace was something else that day.

With the 2024 race having just ended, it is safe to say that the Downtown track is absolutely horrible. Hopefully they go back to Belle Isle in 2026, when their current 3-year-deal has run out.

Race Control screwed up. In some places like Long Beach, it's impossible to get the field bunched up because of the hairpin, but there's more than enough room at Belle Isle. Makes me wonder if the starter's stand screwed up while the track worker at Turn 1 threw up a yellow flag.

@@danielhenderson8316 Yes, I didn´t understand that yellow. At Long Beach they could move the starting line forward to get the field bunched up, and that also would make the cars reach turn 1 slower.

@@MidwestFarmToys Good point, I’m just a bit optimistic about the track’s future because it really could be a bigger Michigan landmark than it is if it got more funding. And having a GP in the city may end up costing more to set up than anticipated

Just be glad we have 5/30 minutes highlights for free ,they also upload old races from time to time too. If they expand to Asia and some of the channels there (cough) ,who knows? Maybe they will lock everything behind paywall and geoblock everything which will be even worse

They have launched a streaming service on their own site. Basically, if your country doesn't have a TV contract or other way to watch it, you can watch every session for free there.

@@QF_Dan72 They also post a longer highlight... I watch it on Peacock... I would love to see IndyCar have a race in Japan or Korea and maybe Surfers Paradise too. It would do wonders for fan growth if they had four international races a year I would say Great Britain and Mexico or South America some where.

Considering Scott had never driven an open wheel car until the last race of the season in 2019, shows exactly how talented he really is. 2nd place in his first ever oval race last year and winning his first Indycar race in Round 1 this season, further enforces that. But to get the car sideways and keep it running instead of just going into the tyre barriers was quick thinking. He still has lots to learn but has already shown in such a short time how much he has already learnt in this highly competitive series.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan had been doing terrible the entire year. It's not just Graham.

Spec cars and two engine manufacturers. Honda and Chevrolet.

I don't follow Indy that much but the engines, chassis's (chassises?) and aero packages are spec, the damper setups can vary from team to team

The engines are very similar but from two manufacturers, Honda and Chevrolet, the cars are a Dallara but the teams can develop parts like the dampers and of course the best teams can get the best engineers to setup the cars

The engines are always being developed with exception of the engine block itself. They're always improving the small parts and the ECU. We are getting a new 2.4L TT V6 in a few years that will put out over 800hp. What hasn't been answered is if they'll put them in the cars and add the 100hp KERS later or wait for both.

Basically underlines that IndyCar is more of a driver than a constructor series

Primary sponsors are a per race basis, and some sponsors only want exposure at one race because they only do business in one part of the country.

That's what makes it great all the changing of concrete to Asphalt and not ideal conditions lets you see the skill of the driver. When everything's not perfect that is when you see the skill of someone who has total control of the vehicle

You're out of your mind... This street circuit has consistently given Indy Car great races! Lots of passing with lots of strategies! Exciting, entertaining, great racing at Belle Isle... Loved it... Will miss it!
