Personally, I would pick the BRZ because I currently own a Subaru and my personal experiences with the Subaru Service Department has been exceptional, beyond my expectations.
@@joshuathomas512 Excuse me. You must've been out of your mind writing utter nonsence in this very comment section. I must inform you that your opinion is doubtlessly wrong. I still wish you a delightful monday afternoon. Yours Steve
I personally prefer the BRZ purely because the front graphics fix nicer with the overall design. I’d have mind in same blue colour as you. But would fit an after market bumper without the weird vents.
3 года назад
you mean the vents on the front bumper? GR has better lookin ones, but other than that BRZ looks bit better. Btw they're to help "wash away" the tyre wake, energize the turbulent air with more energetic laminar flow.
The GR86 is my choice. I really like the big mouth and I think it would look 10x better with some lowering springs or coilovers to actually reduce the height. The front grille reminds me of the Yaris GR grille and I like that feel. My only complaint is that the GR86 front kinda tucks into the body more so I'd probably add a street lip kit to it
Thing thing I do NOT like about the GR86 is the big mouth. Toyota showed a little constraint on this car such that they didn't ruin the whole design with the oversized grill like they have done on so many of their cars.
@@kevindepew8193 Really? I find that the simple design just works and isnt severely aggresive like the GR Corolla or weird looking like the Nissan Z but taste differs I guess.
I like the GR86. I don't like that happy face of the BRZ but the grill of the GR86 is a bit high you are right. In Europe we don't even get the BRZ sooo
I think I would go with BRZ. And IMO both BRZ and GR86 looks better than predecessors. I just wish they hade more unique taillights. But sidevent, skirt, and shape are spot on. And it is light, affordable sports car with manual transmission. We need more of them. Also, I would love new Miata to be available as a Coupe.
And Toyota used cheaper suspension on GR86 and they saying they used better and charge $5000 more than a BRZ. In truth Subaru used more expensive suspension. What a shame on Toyota.
Subaru all the way. IMO better suspension set-up and, more importantly, Subaru dealer techs are familiar with horizontally opposed engines. A lot of folks who did the recall of 1st gen cars to replace the valve springs (for free w/ a loaner car) had the Toyota dealerships do the work and it did NOT work out well.
i like the toyota more. i think the design really benefits from a larger grill. i think the BRZ front end looks like it slopes down too much, like its steeper from hood to bumper. i agree though there needs to be some through lines in the side of the body, and the couple lines there are, are at weird angles. the rear i wish the ducktail was wider and came acrross the top of the tail lights more, just a bit. and that the tail lights were tied into the body lines more, like have the end of the tail light pointing into a line going through the tire to the body line that ran along the bottom and points up to the rear wheel.
Agree. I want to like the Subaru, but the front end on the Subaru looks too ricer to me…front end on the Toyota looks cleaner and fiercer…the Subie reminds me of a Civic…and not in a good way. I don’t really care for the duck tail on either but have not seen one in person yet so…I wouldn’t let it stop me from buying but I’m sure I could be happy with either one. Currently I have a 2020 GT86 with 1900 miles so prolly will not be upgrading unless they offered me 30k trade in value, and zero down zero percent interest loan. That would push me over the edge.
Agreed, the Subie is the better looking car. The same way Porsche design their cars, sleek elegant and aggressive. As an owner of the previous 86 I would consider the new BRZ, or, wait for the new 2022 WRX sti! Any info on the new REX????
@@DefinitelyNotEmma Ok, there really is a big difference between first car and first new car. I don't think many people can buy a new GR86 as their very first car
I think that the Subota is a great sport car, being a rear wheeled-drive coupe with a manual gearbox; just like the Nissan Z and the Toyota Supra but between $10,000 to $30,000 less expensive. I wish that Toyota and Subaru would at least differentiate the two cars with unique sheet metals, like the Honda Civic/Acura Integra, or the Mazda MX 5 and the defunct FIAT 124 Spyder. Having said that, I would choose the one with the Toyota badge but in the gorgeous Neptune Blue color. Otherwise, I would choose either one depending which dealership would give me the better deal.
Definitely prefer the design of the GR86 more. The "teardrop" intakes on the BRZ just looks too busy and out of place to me. The only pro the BRZ has are the headlights.
We own a 2018 sport tech rs and have already ordered a 2022 brz since our 2018 trade in is paying for almost 3 quarters of our new 2022 LOL love it totally worth it love it and can’t wait , delivery here in Canada is expected in early December so we’re really excited
Hi Bembli! Great call on extending the center/doorline! It makes the side perfect! Now personally, I own the previous BRZ, and I still think it looks better than the new generations because the previous gen had all the hallmarks of a classic sportscar look. I am so saddened by the removal of the "horns" (the elevated bumps on the two front fenders above the wheel wheels that gave it classic sports car vibes (GT2000, Stingray) . Plus, the overall rounder lights and front end made the car look chubbier rather than sleeker. It looks like a modern Porsche/C-Class. Lastly, the back just has way too much more elements for me! The taillights are complex in both shape and elements, plus that black line REALLY creates an unnecessary element that makes the spoiler look uglier. Like it was glued onto the car rather than organically part of it. You can imagine it would look as good as the new Supra's ducktail if you edit out the black line! Now that being said, for this new generation, I actually think the 86 looks better because it captures the "simple RWD lightweight sportscar" image better. The Subaru's front end has way too many lines, elements, bends + counterbends that make it look so busy. The front vents look less like intake vents and more like exhausts! (that shape would look good at the back of many cars!). The smaller grill on the BRZ as well makes it less sporty and looks pretty much like many road cars. Well thats all for me! I wish you could show us a sample of the new BRZ, in white, with a deleted black line behind (maybe vinyl wrap it??) That would be awesome!
Amazing. I agree with every point you have made here! I actually owned a 65 Stingray for awhile and the first time I sat in the 86, looking out over the hood I was immediately reminded of the stingray. Unfortunately, that’s where the comparison ended. Nothing can match the sound/feel of the small block Chevy V8.
Toyota’s front looks cute but compared with the Brz it look a bit look flat while the Brz front is lower and more sporty so it plays better with the overall complexity of the rest.
These 2 are just like a "find the differences" quiz. So hard to tell apart. P.S: what's your take on the newly announced Lexus LF-Z concept? that has some interesting shapes and lines (ofcourse, it's a concept, but hopefully it will be translated fairly close into production )
They are identical except for the front bumper/grille. The previous model was always that way too, I'm not sure why anyone is surprised that they are "hard to tell apart".
The hilarious front air intakes are destroying the looks of the Subaru. I would definitely buy the Toyota GR86 if i had to choose between these two. On the other hand if i had to buy an affordable sports car i would go for an MX5 NC with hardtop (i owned all previous gens NA, NBfl, NC and the NC with softop was too noisy on the motorway for me). Nice video! Thanks for uploading.
I guarantee you that if you set these cars without badges next to each other, the GR86 would be the more liked one, it looks mean, and the Subaru doesn’t. People see Toyota as the cheap more economical car and the Subaru is portrayed as more of a luxury brand, therefore just because of the badge people like the Subaru one even though I think it’s the ugly looking one
I think for a lot of us deciding is really going to come down to which dealership you have a better relationship with. I’ve never owned a Subaru. My local suburu dealer is terrible. But My family has bought 4 Toyota’s from the same dealership. So I’ll probably go with the white premium mt6 gr86 in halo white. But I honestly feel like the brz in silver is the nicest looking one in videos I’ve seen. That finish combined with the front bumper design just seems more grown up, more expensive, maybe because it looks more Porsche inspired.
@@Transit_my-way Yeah I think I need to reserve my final judgement until I see one in the flesh. I really liked the long slender hood of the 86, it seems to be way bulkier in pictures with the new one, but maybe not.
I'm leaning more toward 86's front end over the BRZ, but I appreciate the happier look of the BRZ. Reminds me of the older Mazda 3. Too many cars these days look pissed off at something.
@@JordanMarzz And just about EVERY Toyota today is ugly. Toyota doesn't know how to design a front end anymore. Whether it is a Lexus or a Toyota, their goal is to put a gigantic, oversized grill on every car they make. They look like crap. This Toyota GR86 is the only front end that doesn't look horrid. The GR86 would look way better if they had simply lessened the height of the grill a little bit, but at least it still looks pretty good with the slightly too big grill it has. The Corolla, Avalon, Mirai, and Sienna all look like they are going to swallow you whole with their gargantuan (mostly fake) grills. They have improved the Camry front to look a little better. If Toyota would re-learn how to design front ends, their cars would be great.
I actually really like the way the new GR86 looks. Especially when we see it in a darker silver/grey with the black wheels. I would be hard pressed not to pick one up!
One thing I forgot to mention that both cars desperately need is some sort of side skirt to not only bring the car closer tot he ground visually but also to hide the undercarriage visible in a side view
I also thought the GR86 looks a lot higher at the front end compared to the BRZ and it just doesn't look very sporty. I do prefer the less fussy front intakes of the GR86 though - they look almost exactly like the 370Z Nizmo. Then again you can only get the BRZ in WR Blue! I wonder if lowering the car a bit might help the GR86 look much better.
I'll go for the GR86 (as you're redesign of the BRZ is not for sale) Could do with some subtle extra's to give it some 'Eleanor' vibe like two centered fog lamps low in the front.
Just like with the previous generation i tend to gravitate towards the Subaru, They just look a bit more tame then the Toyota in my eyes, The only thing i like less between the Toyota and the Subaru are the tear drop vents in the front bumper but with the grill looking less aggressive and the headlights i can get used to those. The fact that they're functional also gives me a reason to just keep them there. But overall you'll never hear me complain if i had a Toyota, But the Subaru just catches my eye a little more. Just a little more
The rear lights really don't work for me on the GR86 since it's so clearly based off of Subarus design language. I liked the unique rear lights the first generation had, looked a lot sportier and worked with both models.
For me the rear design of last generation was the weakest part of it because the light were like pasted onto the body without line flow But it was a unique design
both noses are ok (more/less acceptable), slightly more preferable would be the gt86 nose, but both have nice n not so nice traits in their front bumpers, but the asses are just terrible..too rounded, too narrowed, fat n tall rear bumper, ugly diffusers, number plate lines just like boot/trunk lines itself aren't the most satisfying ones, would love more vertical lines..boot/trunk design itself is fucked up..moderate duck tails are alright, but i like flat trunks (n almost flat duck tails), not rounded nor risen like some bows..in essence back end looks hideous, too cocky/lofty n too feminine(or gayish) for my taste (yet supra's back is the worst ever made of any ever existed cars on this planet n makes me puke a lot, can't even look at it)..i'd even say the older generation back end with TRD bumper (yet still too tall n too bulky)/diffusers/3piece-duck tail was a lot nicer than new one's, even though older generation rear lights always looked tragical for me, but trunk was flatter n more aggressive n sticked out..but i'm with all my 4limbs up for your redesigned side of the car..definitely makes sense, improves beauty n masculinity of this car..but of course, new brz/gt86 is more acceptable n prettier than an older one (not even mentioning new mega-ugly supra), yet still far from my essential taste..from such rounder design cars with short rear trunk i'd rather chose an old maserati 3200gt (with facelift rear lights adapted/integrated into rear quarter panel, quite easy mod)..they looked cleaner, nicer n more pleasant to the eye, not so cocky lofty n gayish like both generations of brz/frs/gt86..or maserati ganturismo, or aston DB7, (even Peugeot406 coupe FWD), those are way better choices visually than gt86, too bad they weigh tons, if only they were the weight n all the concept (4pot, non turbo, lightweight rwd cars) of brz/gt86, then they'd be the ultimate coupe cars for me..
I will check on the maintenance costs associated with each brand to decide. I like the connection between from and back in your redesign and the back rims. 😉
I don't like the Lexus type huge grill of GR86. And BRZ needs a front lip to compensate for the less aggressive look. Brz reminds me of my old AP2 grill
Basically if one is significantly cheaper than the other THAT will get my attention ....all else being equal I will coose best looking ....if nothing to choose re THAT? Automatically Toyota just because I like owing a Toyota more than a Subaru....I think Subaru badge has always been an eye sore too personally ....I hate bling crap on cars but IF I had a Subaru and there was an aftermarket badge that didnt have the lame stars logo on it? Maybe just "BRZ" etc? I would likely pop $30 in a heartbeat ....as it stands the reviews on these are going to have to be GREAT to get me to buy one and sell my MX5 (notice I did NOT say "trade in" because THAT is a total chump sucker thing to do! People just hand over thousands of dollars to car dealers....LAME!!)
I noticed too :) Just looked at several other images online, and the gas cap is actually on passenger side of both vehicles. The BRZ photo must've been a mirror image. (Edit... just got to 5:55 where he points this out.)
I prefer the brz. It just looks more interesting like there is more going on. Too much flat black area on the gr86. I know the gr86 looks more muscular, but the brz looks more sophisticated and intelligent. But the biggest reason to buy the Subaru instead of the Toyota is that Toyota is a partner of the WEF, and Subaru isn't.
Honestly just scrap both caused because at this point if we supposed to be competing in car companies starting to do this now it doesn’t make no sense why don’t you just make the car together instead of making two separate cars if this isn’t the laziest thing I’ve ever seen on history this is a first wow but the design is nice though
The BRZ is more softly sprung for everyday driving and more stable in the corners as Subaru All wheel drivers arer used to, but as a downside oversteer/tail slides creeps on you in a suprising, stable until its not kinda way. The BRZ is more firm/ sporty for everyday driving, and progressively/gradually in an easy to manage way enters drifts/oversteer/ tailslides, both cars have similar limits, but the BRZ breakaway in a snap, but the Gr86 does so playfully, that's what my research uncovered, in that sense I'd choose the GR86, styling wise I also prefer the Gr86, these cars are the last hurrah before the electrics take over and will be rare expensive classics like the s2000
professionals :) !! 😂read!!! Subaru Brz 2022 is faster, lighter, it has aluminum crossovers and a roof, it has much better audio, reinforced rivets, i.e. the body is stiffer, better materials and professional drivers in Japan have checked that Toyota gets lashes :) after all, Subaru Brz was the car of the year 2022, not Toyota :)
I'd have the GR86 of the two, as the grille reminds me of the GR Yaris, which is a car I love the look of. However, I don't think that either the GR86 or the BRZ look quite as aggressive as I would have liked them to.
I like the BRZ better. It looks more tight and smaller and more together if any of that makes sense. Somehow the Toyota looks a bit bigger and about an inch or two longer. I think more people like the gr86's front bumper but I like the BRZ. Sleek is the word I'm looking for. The BRZ looks sleeker in my eyes.
I’d pick BRZ over 86 just because it is Subaru with boxer engine! It feels more real! Again it is just because the overall feeling.. doesn’t mean the 86 isn’t good! Both are great and as you know they’re pretty much the same car! Thanks!
So can I have the bumper of the Gr86 and change their headlight for the subaru? Or they won't fit? I wonder becuase Scion Frs, Gt86 & Brz all had the same fit measurements in bodykits and head/tail-lights
Batte of the front bumper. They doing the same thing as 350z/370z. Same POS engine just changing the front bumper every few years ... if 🇺🇸 got the yaris gr both these 2 cars wont sell.
"GR" is a badge should be reserved for a design with significant performance boost. The new 86, IMO, doesn't deserve to carry the GR badge. Hence I'll take Subaru, a more low key approach.
The difference in HP may be because Toyota did their reveal for the Japanese market so they may be using PS instead of horsepower while the BRZ had a US reveal. 232 PS is about 228 HP, so its probably just a translation error.
I’m getting the 86 because 1. The premium comes with a duckbill spoiler. 2. The front looks way better. 3. The brz has this weird license plate holder molded into the front bumper. It really bothers me.
The 86 looks better front end but ultimately same car so I’d be happy with both from side view tho the brz has the 1st gen brz/frs body vibes vs 86 doesn’t maybe it’s just me but that’s what I see from the rear the 86 wins I’m excited for future front end looks for 3rd gen models if they create them
What do u think bout the new Z proto? -- my opinion is i hate the front end... its too short , too plain, and the overall design of the car isnt as sexy/sexier than 370z. The 370z is an overall sweeter design
i choose the 86 because the toyota logo looks better than subaru, and the subaru front looks like an overly excessive smile with dimples on the sides. but the 86's front bumper is still ugly, honestly just wish they did something closer to the original design, both cars are ugly
Designer crag rationale..... who cares about 15 pounds less and 4 more horsepower? Let me get my crayons and show you how to ruin a good design Meanwhile every sport car enthusiast apreciate what power/weight ratio means
I prefer the GR86, I like the front better and the lights on the BRZ are nicer but I love GR. They made both Yaris and Supra have more HP than what was said so I'm hoping they work their magic on the 86 as well
I'm so glad you're not in charge of designing the Toyota. The front fascia of the Toyota GR86 is perfect and the family ties to the A80 supra is obvious.
With your touch up of the design (which was a great improvement I think) I'm suddenly not that excited about the 2022 models ... I see the "flaws" in every review now ... 😅
Tbh I feel like the Subaru looks a bit older than the Toyota, the busy front end with all the plane changes and the busy intake design feels like 2015 to me I prefer the Toyota’s design
Your going to deep into it… honestly not thst much a difference from a car that not alot of ppl are going to buy…enthusiast car yes moddible car yes… everyone who buys it will make it their own no point in diving to deep into a sub 30k car
So funny question ? Basically the same car so it doesn’t matter at all There’s no effort being made to make them any different At least Mazda / arbarth made an effort to change the MX5
