Subaru Forester 2022 is the essence of a sports utility vehicle. Everything has its purpose. Form follows function. The interior is spacious, and all the creature comforts are easy to use. What else could one wish for? Perhaps a more lively powertrain option that the lackluster e-boxer, but that's something Subaru in Europe cannot afford.

I don't get excited by 'normal' SUVs as most them look like hatchbacks on stilts with lots of garish plastic cladding, but this is the genuine article. I'll bet it will be a good vehicle to actually own.

I have a 2023 Forester Wilderness that I got a couple months ago. I'm very happy with it. In comparison to my 2018 Ford Escape, the Subaru is a luxury car with lots of features. I LOVE ❤️ the look to the Wilderness trim. I get a lot of compliments.

I’ve got a 2017 Forester XT. After five years of ownership the car is still wonderful to drive and apart from replacing air con unit I have not had any other issues with it. What has prevented me from getting another Subaru has to be the anaemic engines in the current line up of models they offer Europe.

The problem with owning a Forester XT is that you can never go back to driving a normally aspirated model. The turbos offer an unrivaled driving experience.

Sometimes you're making videos for new people so they enjoy getting good amount of information and making a decision but there are some people who are waiting for perfect videos, me included, and still not getting bored. well, this is one of those videos you just enjoy watching a good review and not getting bored. Always something new, new camera angel, new effects, new look but not everything is new. Repetitive things are accuracy, truthfulness and profesionality of presented information. this is not what you see everyday.

I bought my first Forester (diesel) in 2011 when my front wheel drive Volvo would not get up a gentle slope in icy conditions. I have had that, a diesel Outback, and now my favourite the Forester XT (2 litre turbo). My local dealership has been trying to persuade me to buy a hybrid Subaru now for several years, but I honestly do not see the reasoning behind lugging a heavy battery around which only is good for moving the car a few yards. Just enjoy the great car the XT is and drive light R footedly most of the time but have the power available to overtake with ease when necessary. On long journeys I can get 38-40mpg from the XT. I also enjoy the safety aspect of 4 wheel drive, occasional off road driving, lots of load carrying capacity, reliability, and by the way its a great towing car (within it's limits). It's a shame that it doesn't look a bit sexier, but hey ho................😊

A lot more to the drivers that own Subarus then just practical and thrifty. Quite honestly I don’t drive a Subaru to impress anyone else, I drive a Subaru because of its safety, superior all wheel drive, comfort it’s just a fun car😊

Wonderfuly practical vehicle, with one or two areas for improvement. You covered it perfectly in the review, as usual. I'm surprised it didn't pass your obstacle test. But the exterior design is a huge step back in my opinion. They peaked with gen. 3 and it's just "downhill" from there, without the downhill descent control :)

We almost bought the 23’ Forester Touring but at the end of the day went with the Wilderness trim as it can tow 3000 lbs and we live off road just a little and tow lawn equipment. I was concerned it wouldn’t be a nice interior but it’s very comfortable and so easy to clean.

Beautiful review Marek, I hope u will test the Outback as well one day. The Forester makes perfect sense to a clearly addressed audience, it reminds the indestructible Volvos of yesteryear. What's the motorway thirst by the way? I am with u, Subarus need just a bit of grunt more and hopefully their new 1.8 turbo sold in JDM will make its way to Europe. This would also help bearing with their CVT. Which u did not say much about... and why they do not sell an underpowered version of the 2.4 t US one with a touch of hybridization..... thanks, cheers & c u in the next one.

I am (or atleast was) a Subaru-Guy to the heart. Too bad, the cars peaked somewhere around 2015. The interiors are awesome these days, but boy, do I miss the drivetrain of my -08 Outback. They just don’t do them like they used to, except the fact that Subies still have bad fuel economy. (Also, the dealer in my country sucks b*lls.) Bring back the manuals and the turbos! I’ve jumped ship and hopped along with the Koreans. Maybe one day I’ll by a Subie again… Great review, made me miss ”the good old days”.

Thank you for the review! Your English is perfect! For min. 10 years Subaru mainly makes cars for the North American market, so Iam always interested in how Eastern Europeans think about new Subarus. Iam from Hungary, but I’ve been living in the US for 13 years now, and owning 2 Subarus( 4 total over the time) I used to live in Chicago, where the winter is really rough, so I needed an all wheel drive car. Six years ago I moved to North Carolina, where only snowing once a year, yet there are Foresters and Outbacks are everywhere! For an American, Subaru is really a good choice, I know in Europe it’s a whole lot different story.

Researched this car segment for the last 2 months, my findings, - 5th gen forester rated #1 in safety and readability over all others including RAV, trial hawk, honda and bronco. That said, it has been a long road for Subaru from the CVT tranny , oil consumption, head gasket issues of past generation vehicles. At 6'3, CR just announced the Forester is #1 with tall drivers as well, no surprise as the "green house" visibility is very attractive. All the safety dings can be disabled permanently, with the exception of engine on/off at stop. After market solution will solve that as well. So, I will be picking up my Subaru Forester Wilderness / pearl white next week. Comfortable driving on and off road, safety and readability, looks, honest service advisors that I have visited with during this time, all have pushed me this direction. And finally driving my daughters 2017 Forester premium, sold me on being a Subie owner. Suggested maintenance to ensure long life; 30k diff (F/R) service, 40k CVT Transmission service, and oil changes every 4k. Compared to the Outback, Off road analysis/videos show the turbo in the Outback gets totally in the way of performance when climbing, as the Forester's new gearing and software changes bring much more to the equation over the turbo, in my opinion. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZF_JtgJ7aKQ.html HAPPY TRAILS

really go over the trim levels, some may not have the options you want, one thing i was not aware of was the consent need for wheel alignment for for all wheel drive , every 10,00 miles, my friend didn't do it and now has a thumping on the front tires , also you can't buy just one tire you have to do all four as the different wear on old and new tires can mess up the all wheel drive system
@davetravels9273

Great review Marek! The underpowered, naturally aspirated engines are a huge letdown, especially in Europe. Many testers have found these base engines to not be able to put down enough torque when offroading and make use of that AWD system. Fun fact, I have an Outback XT (2.4 turbo) and Subaru calls it the XT for Xtra Traction. Apparently, they know that their base model cars don't have enough torque for off-roading ;) but the Subaru AWD system when paired with the turbo (260 hp, 280 lb. ft. of torque) is a beast off-road. The Outback XT also comes with more soundproofing and acoustic glass, making it as quiet as my 2011 Volvo V70 on the highway; much quieter than my friend's 2.5l Forester. It's a shame that Subaru doesn't offer the 2.4t in the Forester (also not in the U.S.) and not in the Outback in Europe, it really transforms the car and represents what the brand is capable of. Here in Colorado, the Outback XT is ideal for our ski trips, light offroading to our cabin in deep snow and mud or to the trail head of our hike, and hauling our Kayaks on the roof rack (yes we are actual stereotypical Subaru owners that actually use our Outback as it is marketed), but it is probably not the best car for the grocery run in Europe. :P

@@MarekDrivesENG I can imagine. I was in Germany last week and gas was over 2 Euro per liter (about $8.50+ per gallon)! In the US, I just paid $4.45 per gallon (1.06 euro per liter). People are complaining about the cost of gas, and I just laugh. My lifetime fuel economy is 25.5 mpg (9.2 l/100 km), but this includes city driving, winter tires, ski racks, light off roading and preheating the car in the winter with the app. I can easily get 32 mpg (7.5l/100 km) on the highway at 80-85 mph (130-140 km/h), which I think is pretty good for this kind of car.

When I was about to buy my car, I did consider buying a Subaru, an Outback or Forester. I even took a Forester for a test drive. It was some of the previous generations, it was handling great on the road, but the fuel economy was . . bloody awful, to put it mildly and the interior was as cheap and plasticy as an American car. Add the prices of parts and labour when out of warranty and they've lost me completely. This generation, at least from the inside looks like a huge upgrade in interior quality. But the fuel economy hasn't evolved noticeably. I get well below 8L/100km city driving with my 1.5 TSI and no hybrid stuff.

Thanks for the review, Marek. I think the Forester's biggest issue is that it doesn't really stand out amongst it's competitors. Possibly because the fuel economy benefits are insignificant, versus the loss in performance. In Europe they have to because of emissions, but CO2 reductions are mainly on paper, and with passengers and/or luggage on board the car barely moves. Ralliart is worthless. Evo or nothing.

Subaru really has become irrelevant in the last years. In case you didn‘t know, there was a new STI planned, they hyped it up for years, then they launched the ugly and dissapointing wrx, and now they confirmed they won‘t launch the already developed STI

Very very slow engine+ CVT= old people car. No excitement! hybrid is poor..pedal is so sensible my right foot hurts! Drive test it before buying! EV goes in and out very fast. consumption is ok if you dont floorit! I got 6.7%. Its a house on wheels- how low can you get? 1800Kg, square shaped- and 4x4 permanent! And NO TURBO NO PROBLEMS. People are unrealistic when talking about consumption. Its all about the road, driver, and a million other factors. Its a familly car and that says it all. No more EU junk - VW, Opel, BMW...etc. Made in Japan. CHINA is another option, and I think far better than EU manufacturers. (CHINA makes Mercs also...depends how much money you want to spent)

This thing is so ugly. I see these things everywhere in downtown Toronto. The "earthy types" love these things. It reflects their frumpy style. And I'm driving my father in law's Forester up to a friend's cottage tomorrow. I dread driving that thing. Bouncy, awfulness. Thanks for reminding me Marek!! :)

Why take the Forester then? :-)

@@MarekDrivesENG my car is getting too old. It's got an oil leak now which also means it's burning fuel like a fighter jet with the after burners on. LOL. I'm still waiting to order an ID4 AWD when it comes back online for ordering. The alternative will be the X3 PHEV. No wagons coming to Canada anymore and a couple friends work at BMW HQ and VW HQ.

X3, no PHEV. BMW isn't ready for it.

@@MarekDrivesENG there’s a X3 PHEV here.

I'm sure there is. It's just not BMW's finest powertrain. In terms of range and charging speed.
