Can't count the number of times I've stepped out of the car and it beeped at me cos I haven't turned off the engine. Lovely review.

A/T .......... I've got a 2023 1.8 Excel C-HR on order (ordered beginning of February and hopefully due to me around mid May). I've been updated that the car has been built so there's just the transporting to UK , PDR etc to be accomplished. I've checked over this video of yours a couple of times since placing my order as signing the order-form seems like it was all a dream ! Your very practical review has kept me in touch with what I'll be getting . I'm a retired widower and will mostly just be using the car for solo pleasure driving (Hampshire (UK) country lanes, weekly shopping trip and trips to my local gym. The 'pumped up' (hip height) will be good for my old bones when getting in and out of the car, and because of my intended useage, the shortcomings of the C-HR as mentioned by reviewers comparing it to other makes in the cross-over category re the body design stealing some of the interior space won't be an issue for me, neither will the (non warp-factor 9) 0 - 62 acceleration figure. As you mention in your review, the initial acceleration from standstill is quite lively, so will suit my usual motoring (horses for courses) The sales exec at my dealership plugged a data-logger in the car before I drove off for my test-drive (some fairly open country roads, some residential, + a blast on a motorway to make sure I felt ok with the overtaking ability at higher speeds. Result = all very satisfactory : - } Seating was comfortable for my slight build and the suspension over rough road gave a compliant ride (a noticeable improvement on my current Mazda). The data-logger showed that the car had done just under 60 mpg on my test (I tried a Yaris Cross as well = just over 60 mpg on the same route). Thank-you again for your very insightful review. Stay safe. Kind regards, Glynn.

Thanks for your comment. I'm pleased you liked my amateur review, as you stated not everyone needs to get from 0-60 in everyday situations quickly, most people just need to get to 30mph quickly or from 30-70. You will have to reply to this comment in May once you get your CHR, let me know if you find it good to live with.

Great video. I have been mulling over a second hand C-HR for ages. I am 6ft 4in though and am worried it won't leave any space behind me. Any ideas?

Thanks. The CHR and the Corolla hatchback both have interior space of 1800mm, however the Corolla Estate (touring) has an extra 60mm due to the longer wheelbase. I have a video on the touring Corolla and the hatchback Corolla coming in the next few months.

the reason for no auto-lock of doors when driving off is because Toyota doesn't do it in certain markets. The do in the US for example, but not UK, as they consider it a "safer" market
@amateurtorque6709
@amateurtorque6709 Год назад
That makes sense, thanks for the input.

@@gbengaolulode6508 talking about the CHR. It does auto lock in US version, not UK. Same way for example in warmer markets they do not offer steering wheel heater (for example Spain on any trim)

Great, simple owner's review! Well done, buddy! Considering buying a nearly new C-HR and this was the most positive 'owner' review I've watched yet. Many 'standard' reviews and reviewers seem to quote from a rhetoric/narrative - I'll always go by owners rather than more established, mainstream reviews as they're more realistic, poignant and honest.

Very much appreciated your review. I've ordered 1.8 with some regret I didn't choose the 2.0 version (due to some discount campaign), but now I'm actually more confident the car acceleration will be enough for me also. I was somehow afraid the power will not be enough for takeovers but I'm not a speed fan, and I guess (looking at speedometer in your review) that increasing the speed from 40 to 110 kmph is quite good. Thanks again for this presentation of yours, unlike other reviews which seems to be too personal, too critical, only from their perspective of needed power. I had a Audi A4 with 114 horse power... and it was ok for me. I don't know why 122 horse power was doubtable. Also the interior was very criticized, like too much cheap plastic... I think they compared with brands and classes way too expensive. Again, your review seems non-personal, realist, no false advertising or hazard critical. Another criticized point is the LAG of infotainment, like slow animation and responsiveness. I'm sure the car will be as expected. Sorry for my "english mistakes" :)
@amateurtorque6709
@amateurtorque6709 Год назад
Thanks for the feedback, and I think your English is better than mine. I've recently test driven the 2.0 version and its really only noticeable at higher speeds. I will put a video in a few months comparing the two side by side, but at low to mid speed, there's not much in it thanks to the battery assistance at low speeds.

Why does the range of miles decreases even when driving on battery?
@amateurtorque6709
@amateurtorque6709 8 месяцев назад
Good observation, the average MPG calculator knows that within a few 100 metres the battery will be empty and the engine will have to cut in.

I have a 21 reg design version with the optional 2 litre engine. It's a lovely car to drive and I can't really fault it. Overtaking is impressive and it's pretty economical too .Several people have said it sounds like a spaceship when traveling slowly on a car park looking for a space! At around 50 onwards there's a quiet high pitch whine akin to a jet engine which I quite like.

Seats are not electric only in the base model you have (South of 30k). They definitely are for the xl and sport model at 33k.
