The 2022 land cruiser is overhauled to the TNGA platform,given a brand new 3.5 litre v6 with 409hp paired with a 10speed,brand new interior,and a completely different exterior styling. Redesigned cars still tend to keep some features and styling from the previous gen a facelift is when monior changes are made to the cars styling like new bumper , headlights, taillights and slightly updated interior for example the patrol is just a facelift of the previous one and the back and front glass on the 2022 may be the same shape that doesn't mean it's the same from 2008 and the same goes for the rear door.

@@garfieldsmith332 Wrong, the 70-Series exists for that. Since 60-Series, this has been somewhat at the top end of SUVs. Toyota said in 1996, if Lexus existed in 1960, the fullsize Land Cruiser would be a Lexus from the get go. It’s still a Toyota because the Land Cruiser branding is too strong to drop everywhere.

They make these things like Land Rover does for the upitty crowd to drive an over priced luxury vehicle with a badge that they believe makes them look like they drive in the Outback or the Rockies or the Boonies. The badge is long gong from Canada and the only thing close is the Lexus LX at 113K base price. I remember the old Toyota Land Cruisers, the 2 door Jeep style and the 4 door. To me they are just not the same.

@@garfieldsmith332 This is from the lineage of the 50-Series introduced in 1967 and marketed in JDM for the affluent Tokyo or Nagoya executive, who wanted more than a 40-Series to get to his country residence or to go hiking. Plus carry all his load and family members in more comfort. This was targeted against imports of the Jeep Wagoneer to JDM. 60-Series replaced that with added comfort and refinement, then 80 built on that significantly, 100 overdid it, and now 200. These have always been comfort oriented serious 4x4s since their 1967 introduction and then became luxurious in the 1990s. Land Cruiser is more of a sub brand in reality than just one model. Complaining about that aspect of fanciness in relation to this new 300-Series, is silly because it has always been about that The real problem is that Toyota took away the Land Cruiser core focus from the FJ40 series style vehicle and shifted it to the lineage of the 50 Series wagon after 1984. 70-Series replaced FJ40 in 1984, but Toyota opted sell to 4Runner and then Hilux Surf in its space instead to Americans and many other markets. As the big Cruiser grew in price and size, 70-Series had to create an offshoot in 1990, with the LC Prado 70, which became the Land Cruiser-lite in 1996 as 90 Series essentially a smaller pseudo luxury SUV and today exists as J150 and Lexus GX. They did that because they wanted to push the big LC head on with the Range Rover. You’re looking at the wrong vehicle if you’re whining about that lol. It’s like being upset Jeep made the Grand Cherokee more luxurious, when the Wrangler still exists. The 2dr 4Runner replaced the FJ40 in USA, but later got dropped in early 90s. FJ Cruiser failed to be a Hummer competitor and FJ40 homage all in one. If J70 went in this direction, any such criticism makes way more sense. Still exists, but just not in America and most developed nations.
