A very neat review Paul. Great overall. I take it the rear seats no longer recline as far on the new one as they did in the old one. I for one loved the old set up as it meant I could enjoy my naps on those long trips. I have also heard several people complaining about build quality. This includes a shaky dash and some panels not screwed in properly. Did you forget to do this window check on this one? Great review altogether. Well done mate. All the best from Sunny South Africa.

As far as I know, that suspension knock or "popping" sound coming from the front (especially when you are turning the wheel, or articulating) is pretty common on off-road Toyota trucks and SUVs. There is an extension off the lower ball joint housing. It is a steering stop that is meant to interface and make contact with the reinforcement on the lower front wishbone. So when you are turning, it can make a contact at some instances. I think the idea is that it is better to have the two pieces making contact rather than the hydraulic rack and pinion binding up within itself.

You can get a Nissan Y62 Patrol Ti for around 92k. Spend another 20k on some after market goodies, eg, bullbar, winch, snorkel, off road tyres, nice set of wheels, engine tune/chip, under body protection and you would still have 25k in free fuel. Toyota is having a lend of people charging this much for this car, but the Toyota crowd will still buy it at any price. By the way, those wheels and tyres are crap and no 3 row in the price bracket, OMG.

Hm…., that’s odd, when I test drove the 300, in gxl, gr and zx back to back, I noticed latter two with adaptive suspension when driving in sport mode (unique to gr and zx) did provide a much firmer and planted ride impression than gxl. I did not notice the body roll tho.

@JapanSc0re
@JapanSc0re 2 года назад
With KDSS, I may be wrong but what i understand is how the system works on a paved road it keeps the vehicle body as horizontal as possible. Then when going off road in the ditches and ruts it promotes wheel articulation for improved grip. So maybe the GR-S had more body roll but it could have been kept in the horizontal where as the ZX grade or non e-KDSS variant the suspension compression maxed out on the turn in the banked corner.

Is that seat bolster adjustment, or lumbar support adjustment? It would be rare to find bolster rather than lumbar, typically it’s the other way round or both. Also, is that faux leather as it sure looks like it - doesn’t look like real leather? My Land Rover has a 9 speed auto and I never have hunting issues/problems. Many people seem worried about having “too many” gears. More gears is always better - unless the gearbox is poorly configured and hunts around.

I'm not likely to buy a Land Cruiser in this lifetime or the next one :) But near enough to 150K (once the on roads costs are figured in) you would have a lot of latitude to look at other options, unless you're a die hard toyota fan it's hard to justify the price tag, then again if you're lucky enough to say the money doesn't matter then you'd have to ask the question why this because it's not really a great looker.

Hi Paul, could you do a Tesla model 3 standard range plus or rear wheel drive review please

Yep - unfortunately they don't have any cars for us to test at the moment. Will do it as soon as we can get one.

Wow, despite having more 4wd components this is faster than the vx spec

I was surprised by that. But keep in mind our VX was brand new, it had 5km on the clock when we collected it. This car had a heap more.

Great review Paul. Was waiting for this review of the GR. Too expensive for me to ever own this but I love the vehicle and the front design with Toyota lettering is neat.

There’s definitely an issue at Toyota with price vs value.

You want value or bang for buck look at the latest offering by the Chinese .Toyota don't need to offer vapour for money there trading off there reputation . Currently there's a 3 year waiting list on these

They have a massive wait list so they can charge a premium it seems but if I spent that kind of $ on a car I wouldn’t take it bush bashing. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone uses it for the purpose it was designed for. It certainly brings the Defender into play as long as they resolve the reliability/durability issues.

Yes and it's because they do too many 4x4 models: 1 Hilux 2 Fortuner 3 70 Series 4 Prado 5 300 series Their business plan is stuffed long term. No other manufacturer does this many models.

i honestly love the sahara zx but the fact that they didn't give it all the offroad equipment still kinda offends me ... but thats my favourite one (sahara zx)

To say the poor build quality could be due to the vehicle being a press car could not be any more incorrect. Paul when I worked for a number of OEM’s the press cars were maintained to a level no other vehicle on the road could match. Hours and hours of prep were spent on each vehicle before any jurno laid their hands on them. Honest reviews like yours is what they fear!!

Great review as always guys 👏 Can't help but thinking that if it was a brand new Land Rover that had dodgy panel gaps and knocking noise, people would be going nuts in the comments section right now🙄

Landcruiser would surely be Toyota's highest profit unit. Not to many farmers & graziers will come at the new model pricing and that's the market that helped them build their name in Oz. That won't worry Toyota as I imagine the Middle East will take as many as they can make. Fleet buyers with post Covid skinny budgets will be looking at other options.

Even if I had LC300 money- (which I don’t) I’d still end up owning a modest Fortuner- or if I’m feeling lucky; a Prado.

For Toyotas launching a sporty version of a certain model means picking a base model and adding sporty elements to the car.
