In this video I am converting my 2022 Trek Marlin 6 mountain bike tires, to tubeless tires. You can use the Maxxis Ikon tires with this tubeless method, it will work, but I chose the Maxxis Rekon Races 29x2.35 because they were a little more aggressive and will work better on the dirt trails where I ride.
These are the Presta Valve stems I bought off Amazon

The original tape you took off was to stop the spokes poking holes in the tube

Thanks a lot for the video! I just bought the same 2022 Trek Marlin 6, even the same color, and I've been researching tubeless conversions. A lot of videos recommended using TR rims and rim tape but your video confirms my plan to start with the stock rims and gorilla tape. I've also debated getting wider tires like you did but with 622x20mm rims and my mud guards, I think I’m going to start with 2.2 Ikon EXO/TR tires.
@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 2 года назад
Awesom Dan I’m glad you found it helpful. The Ikon tires are what came on my bike, and those are tubeless capable tires. I’ve had my new tires for about 3 weeks or so, and so far they have held up perfectly. Gorilla tape is great! Good luck, go watch my video on installing the dropper post, if that interest you. The dropper post was the best upgrade ever!

Good Vid. I just did the conversion and the main issue I had was the new valves. I went for Maxxis Aggesai 2.4 on the front and Minion DHR 2.35 on the back. The front tyre seated like a dream with one layer of Gorilla tape as well as Sealant, it was a beautiful thing. The back tyre was a different story it took ages. I had to wrap the rim twice on this and know matter what I tried it wouldn’t inflate. After doing some investigating I discovered that the width of the valve head inside the rim was obstructing the tyre from sitting in position. I had use a tyre lever to seat the tyre between the valve and the rim. After I did this it inflated first go. One thing to note*** neither of the tyres gave of that familiar snapping sound as the tyres become seated.
@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 11 месяцев назад
Great to know about the valve stem blocking that! This was a really good upgrade. I just changed out my valve stem cores last week, they were gummed up from the sealant and air from the pump wouldn’t go in the tyre. I changed those and added more sealant and it’s holding up great!

hey thanks for video, great stuff, im getting ready to do some myself. also i saw in some other videos, its good to test and seat the tire without seal first make sure all goes well then let the air out and fill with seal, i guess if something goes wrong stuff will go everywhere
@scottsworld21

Ah that’s actually a good idea, that could have been very bad dealing with that sealant everywhere while trying to figure that out. I’ll definitely do that next time! Thanks I appreciate it!
@cuddlesquid_

@@scottsworld21 For sure man. I watched so many videos by now its not even funny. One of the things is def having the right pump, the one with a cylinder so it can release air right away. I think when I do it, I will mount the tlr tire and insert the tube and inflate and ride around for a very short period of time and then bring tire and bike inside the house and dismount the tire. They also said to keep everything room temperature, helps seating.

@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 Год назад
Yeah I’ve been meaning to get one of those air pumps, they are really nice. So far they have held up amazingly. Absolutely ZERO issues whatsoever. I did add a little air one time, and I added a little more sealant because it sounded like it was getting low. But other than that, it’s been 11 months and still going strong. Other than seating the tire first like you mentioned, I wouldn’t do anything different.
@cuddlesquid_
@cuddlesquid_ Год назад
@@scottsworld21 That sounds like a good plan. I think before i do it ill just cough up 160$ and get the pump from trek, seems like the only right way to get them to seat. Thanks for all the answers homie 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Wrong placed the "MAXXIS" logo over the valve. Now you are going to turn turn turn to find the valve. It's easier when you put the "MAXXIS" logo over the valve.

What’s up Alex! Yeah they are very good! BUT they do rub when on the trails. These are 2.35s. I notice it rubs in tight turns, not bad, but they do rub. Front and rear. I would try 2.3, or like that other guy commented on your video, if you upgrade the fork, the 2.4 in the front will be fine and run a 2.2-2.3 in the rear. Overall I love it!

@@scottsworld21 Every time I try to respond to you my post disappears. I think it has to do with linking you to a certain forum, IDK. Anyways, I was going to install a Bufang BBSHD on Trek Marlin 6 2022, but there were some hoops I was going to have to jump through to get it done., so I cooled off on that project for a while. Converting to an ebike is a do at your own risk type of thing and there are many choices to make. It is a fun rabbit hole to go down though.

I have a marlin 6 and wanted to covert to tubeless. Local bike shop said it isn’t tubeless ready. I don’t know 🤷. It’s working for you though?
@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 2 года назад
Yes it’s been awesome. The tubeless “READY” part, is the black gorilla tape I used in the video to seal the rims. As you can see in the video, the hardest part is getting that tire to seat on the rim when you go to put air in it. Just stay with it and keep working with it and you’ll eventually get it.

@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 10 месяцев назад
I’m not sure exactly what your question is? The Marlin 6 did not come tubeless ready, but this video is about making these Marlin 6 wheels tubeless. You just add tape to the wheels like the video to make them tubeless. Not sure what you’re asking. I would not put bigger tires than what you see here in the video. They will rub and may not fit. This is the max tire size I would use.

I talk about it in my Trek Marlin Vs Specialized Stumpjumper video and I show on video the clearance. Go watch that for sure. But to answer you your question, no. Every once in a while when I turn really hard it will touch the frame. But I now use this bike for street and path riding almost daily and I hardly ever hear it touch. This is the max size I would go though. Any bigger and it would be a problem. I start talking about it at the 8 minute mark. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--K25O4dlVik.html

Can tubeless ready tires be used on these stock rims with regular tubes? Like can I run these tires with tubes until I'm ready to convert to tubeless or does "tubeless ready" mean you can only run the tires without tubes?
@scottsworld21
@scottsworld21 6 дней назад
@@Rudder14 yeah I would think so. I mean it’s just a tire with a tube in it. I think a tubeless ready tire makes a good airtight seal on the rim to sealant stays in the tire. You’d just need to add the tape and the liquid to convert it.
@RoyLeNeaveII
@RoyLeNeaveII 5 дней назад
It can be. I'm running tubeless ready with tubes on this exact setup. They just have thicker sidewalls and make a better seal with the rims. I'm currently running Specialized Purgatory 2.4 on front and Specialized Ground Control 2.35 on the rear...both with a 2.35 tube right now until my rim tape comes in.
@RoyLeNeaveII
@RoyLeNeaveII 5 дней назад
Also once they are converted to tubeless a lot of people carry a tube still in case your tire gets really damaged beyond a plug or the sealants capabilities of sealing the hole. If you're stuck like that you can still throw a tube in to get home.
