I don't think anyone realizes just how much skill and talent and HARD WORK goes into these shows!! They make it look so easy, but as someone who was in a marching band for 3 years can tell you, it was FREAKING HARD. Kudos to this absolutely incredible performance!
Dang these kids can play! The visual design is insane. The moments at 5:20 and 7:40 had me give an audible "Wooh!". All sections were rocking including the brass that absolutely killed it!
Wow I am speechless! I am in my schools marching band (south jones band) and I saw y’all on TikTok and I can say this is an incredible show, great work to all of them!
What a great job this high school band did. You can tell they are well deserved champions. Miss being in marching band. Class of 99 at Brentwood high Brentwood, Tn
The show can only be a certain length, so to be able to do a longer show they start while the announcer is talking. It’s the school’s choice to start like that. A lot of drum corps do it in DCI.
My band (Lake Travis) all start off looking down and only know to start from a count off- but the announcer was so loud no one knew we were starting and completely threw our entire opening and show- we got 35th when we were better than last year when we got 19th
@@theincompletepackage Katie VanDoren - She the band director. She can be seen marching on the sideline (in time with the kids) as they perform and compete. It's her first year as the head band director at VHS! :)
@@hangingwithjen 1. I didn't even know that was allowed, super cool 2. Is she related to Evan VanDoren, the guy who arranged shows for multiple top bands?
@@theincompletepackage Well she's not physically on the field marching, I think she just hears the music and it moves her...just like the rest of us up in the stands, our feet are all keeping time with the band! In my house, we have favorite parts of this year's piece, and we sing it at random moments. LOL I'm unsure if she is related to Evan VanDoren.
As someone who watches the Allen band each week for football games, I don’t really know how these band competitions are judged…. But at the 4:50+ mark is where I could tell a visual difference between what I see each week at Allen and a UIL champion. Still don’t know specifics as to what’s judged, but this was cool to see
Divided into music and visual categories(specific judges for each) and for each there’s individual and ensemble- individual meaning individual performances(everyone’s marching technique is great and playing with good sounds) and ensemble meaning no one’s sticking out and lines are neat and in time.
The way these guys manage to sound louder than a band as big as Allen is because of what's called a harmonic series or "overtone series". As different frequencies line up (eg people playing perfectly in tune and with aligned embouchure), they basically stack and get multiplied. Hence the ringing at the end of the ballad.
The Grid A digital universe I tried to imagine such a place Seemingly endless beyond perception What does it look like? What does it sound like? Who lives there? And then One day I got in
Bro, the directors area is like 5 chairs long, I would have to have 15ft arms for it to even begin to make a difference. It would also be ignorant to assume that I would allow someone to yell at and into my phone in the first place.
Maybe I couldn’t see it, but was there zero rifle work by the color guard? ZERO!?!? How did they not get last place for such low degree of difficulty on the color guard?
Rifles are not a requirement. Vandy's Vision Dance Company does do a great deal of flag work. But, they also do a lot of dance...which is unique and classy in my opinion. Their instructor does choreography for Santa Clara Vanguard. So they are learning and performing a good dose of DCI level movement. If every band stuck with same routine, these shows would get boring to watch. What's the word? Oh, yeah. "Diversity!"
yes, and the judges' opinions are really the only ones that really matter. Otherwise, each band fan is always going to think their band was better and troll another band's RU-vid to make a sour grapes comment vs being gracious and giving that other band their due.
I have no horse in this race and didn’t know these bands existed before going down a RU-vid late night. 4 years marching for BAC gives me a pretty decent idea of what to look for too. I watched the top 3 bands routines multiple times…Vandegrift deserved the title.
