Are both of these rear wheel drive? I heard about the steering wheel and back seat warmers needing to be paid for but hadn’t heard until your video that that was free again. Is that the case with all Tesla model 3s?
@@attackhelicopteridentifier7343 Yes both are rear wheel drives and yes the heated steering wheel and rear heated seats now come standard in all Tesla Model 3s 🙂
Wow this was a super useful comparison video! Seeing the difference in the lights side by side is staggering! I don’t know why Tesla decided to have such a silly lighting setup in previous years, the 2022 setup is definitely a much better idea. Awesome video!
Wonderful news!! We recently produced a new Yoke steering wheel with a completely multifunctional wheel button for the Tesla 3 and Y. I wanted to quickly reach out and inform you that we currently have some fantastic deals in Tesla Accessories on our eBay listing.
I'm not aware of anything you have missed (and I did do some obsessive research before buying my 2022 M3) - so great job! Of course there were some additional features that came in during 2021 too. I think a side by side comparison of acceleration could be helpful for people, as its something some people fixate on. Although, while I was a bit worried that I might be disappointed with the 2022 M3 acceleration, I'm very happy with it, as in majority of situations, its still pretty impressive. The possible exception is that, to me, its not super impressive from zero speed (possibly due to 3D7 motor lower torque at zero speed?), but as soon as its say 30kph or faster, it pushes you into your seat very nicely. So might be interesting to compare both from 0 - 100 kph and say 50 - 100 kph?
Thanks so much mate! Yeap it's hard to do an exact model comparison with Tesla as they continuously make changes throughout the whole year... And looks like a lot of people are requesting the acceleration test so will work on sorting it out for a future video. That's a fantastic point you raise there so I will definitely be doing the test both from 0-100 km/h and 50-100 km/h.
@@benjaminbenson3721im getting a 2021 this week as well. From my research most people say you’ll only notice a difference in cabin noise at higher speeds.

That's a difficult task though. Apple needed over a decade to create ARM chips that can compete against traditional x86 chips. I would rather guess that once Intel/AMD come up with their own ARM chips then Tesla will switch to it.
Uk 0-60 for 2022 is 5.8 but has everything else you say of too! Very much looking into getting one, such a good value EV imo for that cost and price point ❤️🙌😎
Yep 0-60mph is in 5.8s as shown in the video which translates to 0-100km/h in 6.1s (sorry I'm in NZ so mentioned metric units but also included imperial conversions in the video). It's a fantastic car for sure! We have had ours for about 8 months and it still feels fresh as ever 😊
Our Model 3 SR+ is a mash between the two of these. We got it in Dec 2021. It has the bigger battery and faster acceleration, heated rear seats etc, but no Ryzen CPU.

I am based in New Zealand and all Model 3's here in the Australia/New Zealand always came with the floor mats. I know that the base model SR+/RWD in the USA don't come with floor mats but the Long Range and Performance models do. The front fog lights are also only present on these higher models. And the speakers also only changed on these higher models. Tesla reduced the premium sound package from 14 to 13 speakers. But these base models I was comparing don't have a speaker change. Hope this helps :)
1:45 exactly how is ryzen using more power? it has more tdp? doesn't it just finish the task faster, and therefore can idler longer at low power usage? and even if it does use more power - is it even noticable on your range? because lets say atom idle power at 10w, and ryzen idle at 30w, then even if it is 3 times as much, its basically nothing in comparison to a 55kwh battery....
I would have expected both the chips to use similar levels of power but this doesn't seem to be the case based on what I've read and what I was told by some Tesla reps (source: wccftech.com/amds-ryzen-cpu-reportedly-cuts-down-tesla-model-3s-driving-range/). It definitely seems to have higher phantom drain (which may or may not be completely due to this chip). I will do more tests on this and try report on real world differences if any.
Please make a video about regeneration mode which does not turn on the brake lights. this almost cased me to have accident. My front car in highway was EV and they slow down heavily with regen. braking and i found the slow down very late and almost hit the EV car with 120km/hr.
I'm in Asia, Taiwan. 2022 Q3 delivery last week. Tesla gave me the old taillight FML I'm so angry. Is there anyway I can buy the euro updated version taillight with dual everything, much thanks ~
Hey sorry I'm not sure if you can buy official updated ones but there are some third-party ones that are slightly different that you could possibly look into... Might be worth getting in touch with Tesla service team to see if they allow you to upgrade.
Great question! Google says "According to the Tesla owner's manual, it is not advisable to use the lithium-ion battery to jump-start other vehicles. Instead, connect the positive terminal of the EV to the other car's battery and the negative clip to the vehicle's metal."

You missed the honk. Horn is louder. U missed the headlights. Headlights are brighter. U missed the suspension. Suspension is smoother. U missed the seats. Seats are higher quality. U missed the heated steering wheel.
Yeap it's $72k NZD (inc. all taxes) here in New Zealand where I am based. It was $68k a couple of weeks ago before the price increases. We also have a $8,650 subsidy here which really helps bring down this price. The range is different due to the AU/NZ regions listing range estimates using the WLTP standard whereas Canada uses the EPA standard. The underlying battery is the same and EPA estimates are definitely closer to the real world range you would get out of these cars.
I wish I could afford two but only one of these is mine haha. The 2022 model was kindly offered to me by one of our subscribers so I could do this comparison video for our audience 😊

@@EVKiwis VW already overtook Tesla in market share in Europe, and VW barely got into the EV business. If Elon wasn't wasting time trying to buy Twitter maybe he'd focus on making better looking cars. The ID.3 and ID.4 are going to put him out of business over there.
100k for a model 3 performance? jesus that is so overpriced considering how horrible the quality is, you can literally buy a low mileage porsche taycan for less lmao
I'm located in NZ so it's $100k NZD (inc taxes) here. It's $63k + taxes in USA which is a massive increase from the original release price. We have a $8,650 EV subsidy here that helps bring this price down somewhat. Tesla in this part of the world come from the Shanghai factory and surprisingly their build quality is actually very solid.
Many studies have shown that EVs catch fire a lot less than ICE vehicles. They also take longer to catch alight, allowing passengers more time to escape. Stats show that, on average, there's only 25 fires per 100K sales of EVs 😊
I really wish the US had the new tail light design. I’m not a fan of a single red LED strip for the brake light and turn indicator. I much prefer the outer light as the brake, and the inner strip as the turn signal.
Couldn't agree more! Don't see why they haven't started using the new tail light design globally yet. In the US there still seems to be a batch with the old design. All UK, AU and NZ models have the new design now.
I think the data transfer USB port being in the glovebox only is so that sentry mode and teslacam footage is stored in a more secured area and can't be taken easily. The touchscreen would have to be accessed in order to open up the glovebox and take the footage versus opening the center console and taking the USB drive out.
Absolutely! That's exactly why Tesla introduced the USB port in the glovebox starting from the 2021 models. It's just that some people still liked to have data transfer capability in the center console in addition to the glovebox port so they could play music, etc off a USB drive. I personally only stream my music but guess there are still a few people that use USB sticks.
Crazy how much has changed. I did an 11.271 @ 121.74 mph in my 2022 Model 3 Performance this weekend. Here is a video about how I did it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ExNNArhYsns.html
Great video!!! I’m considering buying the new model 3. I would LOVE for you to make a video for an acceleration test. I’ve been looking for a video like that everywhere…

I’m the UK and got a Unicorn car in Dec 21. Has the same faster motor 5.3 sec one and the 60kwh battery so get the 273 miles. Also got heated steering wheel and rear seats free. My USB in the front also work for data. Only thing I missed really was the new chip. Nice video. 👍
Thank you! Very helpful. I got my Model 3 June 15th 2021 (almost a year :) ). Interesting updates. The only thing I would desire is really the tail lights. I have the 82kw battery so an upgrade on battery would be nice, but it's good 'nuff
Glad it was helpful! 😊 Tesla is always making continuous updates throughout the year and I'm sure most of us won't be changing cars every couple of years. It's a great car regardless and it's nice to at least get software updates that bring new features even for older models.
Tesla upgrades are not from year to year, but from car to car... You get randomly new upgrades from one production batch to the next one :/ I think it is somehow ok, but they should mention this for new buyers since even their sellers are unable to know if your car will have or not a new feature. I got my m3lr an year ago, and they were totally unaware of the heated steering wheel (which I got, but someone else didn't even ordering just some day before me)
Yes you're absolutely right! Since Tesla has an agile approach to changes that they rollout in their production, it's really hard to do an exact side-by-side comparison for the year models to be honest. But totally agree that it would be nice to have some more transparency over which features the car assigned to you is getting.
See why didn't the previous model 3 generations have dual lights for everything? 4:13 Like before it was only one white light for reversing. LIKE WHY?!
@@xoukilong nope - I got this checked by Tesla and this is how they previously came from factory... with just a single reverse light. Where are you located? Might a region specific thing if your 2019 model had this.
On thing to add: the new 12v battery is not only a improvment. It is not possible to charge it from outside if the car is completly to 0%. Only the Tesla Service Center can fix that, was it a great disadvantage, just in case.
Hi! Do you know if the ride and the suspension has been more soft on the new 2022 model 3 long range, than on the 2021? Have tesla changed the dampers on the 2022? I have test driven both year models, and the 2022 seemed a little more smooth and soft in the ride, which was really nice 😃
Hey! Sorry I wouldn't be able to comment on the LR version with certainty but I haven't felt too much of a difference in the suspension performance between the RWD version of the 2022 & 2021 models. Tesla does use parts from different manufacturers sometime so there could surely be a difference
i used to be jealous with the newer models. then one day tesla gave me free premium connectivity for life.. i later upgraded the wiring harness to tap into all the speakers. utilize the 980 motor and foot lights. added some wireless gaming controllers. still would like the auto trunk, but that can be added later
That's so cool - how did you manage to score the free premium connectivity? Yes being able to so easily make all theses mods to a Tesla is surely a stand out benefit. Would be keen to know how you enabled the footwell lights 😊
They need dual pane glass all around bad! What I don't understand is how so many cars with single pane are quieter, yet Tesla needs dual pane with added weight to quiet the car.
I couldn't agree more! Don't know why they left out the rear windows when it was introduced in the front ones. And I would say Tesla (or any other EV) feels louder than other cars due to their being no other noises of the engine, etc. So the road noise is just more audible in the cabin than other cars.
Hello, Previous Tesla owners ran an experiment and found the reason being the glass top of the car. In typical cars, the roof has insulation that dampens road noise. The glass roof of a Tesla does not have insulation and there is no sound dampening. This is why they focused so much on the sound system - to distract people from the loud cabin
*It's May 2022 and Tesla still hasn't put in a double panel glass in the rear window. They are also putting in the old headlights on the new 2022 Model 3 cars. What a RIP OFF!!*
Yep it's so strange as double pane rear windows were rumoured to come into production earlier this year. And yes from the feedback I've had, it seems that half the cars in the US still have the old headlights whereas UK and AU/NZ ones all have the new design.
Thanks for this very nice video @EV Kiwis 2022 model should no longer have the USS (ultra sonic sensors) - is that actually the case on your 2022 car ? Secondly, if there are no USS, do you still see distances in cm/inches when very close to walls or obstacles?
Really clear comparative summary - thanks! So, gradually, the Model 3 is being re-speced with details found in cars of a similar price and a higher price. Ask for a Tesla Model 3 2022 spec every time!
Thank you! 😊 Tesla is certainly doing a great job of rolling out continuous updates to their model which is nice to see... Though sometimes it can cause buyer's remorse if you have just purchased one and a new updated model comes out haha.

*Tesla is becoming very greedy with price increases and not giving the buyer the charging kit anymore and using the old style headlights for the 2022 Model 3's*
Yeah it's kind of sad to see prices going up in the last few months so let's hope supply chain/inflation pressures ease up so the prices can come back down. Also, it's not 72k in the US. I'm in NZ so it's $72k NZD (inc taxes) here. It's $47k + taxes in USA which is a massive increase from the original price of $35k 😩
Thank you for sharing, I'm curious though because my Model 3 2022 only have a select few of what you mentioned: my model 3 currently have: Intel ATOM chip and no heated wiper blades option, everything else listed for 2022 is there
Thanks for sharing the distinctions highlighted in the video. Clearly the mantra of continuous improvement is being represented in every aspect of the car model years.
Thank you Andrew! Though sometimes it’s easy to experience buyer’s remorse with all these frequent changes, it’s great to see Tesla rolling out these updates in a more agile manner rather than just waiting for yearly model updates.
@@EVKiwis Fully agreed. My '21 has the winter option which was free. I'm looking forward to the availability of the Model Y in NZ. That has to be the next candidate upgrade for me...

The usb thing is probably for safety. The glovebox can only be opened when the car is unlocked, so trying to hack the car doesn't work unless the owner unlocks it
Yep for Sentry mode USB it makes perfect sense! But a handful number of people still used the center console USB ports for playing their music, etc off their drives which they can't anymore. Doesn't impact me personally but can be a nuisance for those that care. Apparently this change was done due to a chip shortage for controller chips used for data transfer...
@@EVKiwis I really like to use the 2 usb c ports in my M3 for plugging in wired controllers for the occasional gaming session at a SC. No need for any battery powered wireless controllers that could be empty the few times that I actually want to use them. I hope they add that functionality back at some point.
@@bfbf7fd7b8f878fb8f7b Great point! I hope so too... As now I have to do exactly what you mentioned using a USB hub plugged inside the glovebox which is much less convenient in my opinion.

The 2022 60KW FWD LFP is awesome. I’m getting 275- 300 miles a charge in the UK. See my channel as I’ve filmed a real world range test which I will post up soon. The CPU doesn’t reduce range! The 2022 has a 60 kw battery pack! A CPU doesn’t consume enough power to make an appreciable range difference but the bigger battery in the latest ones makes a big difference.
Yeah it's kind of sad to see prices going up in the last few months so let's hope supply chain/inflation pressures ease up so the prices can come back down.
I have 22 and got chance to drive older tesla. The atom processor cause a 1 second delay with the camera when switiching lanes. Amd is instant. Overall, amd is much smoother. The cabin is very quiet. All the noises i hear now is from the wheels
I would have expected both the chips to use similar levels of power but this doesn't seem to be the case based on what I've read and what I was told by some Tesla reps (source: wccftech.com/amds-ryzen-cpu-reportedly-cuts-down-tesla-model-3s-driving-range/). Unfortunately I don't have access to a LR model for comparison but most of the differences are the same as what's mentioned in this video. Two things that are different would be: 1) Range: 358 miles in 2022 LR vs 353 miles in 2021 LR. 2) Sound system: 14 speakers + sub + 2 amps in 2022 LR vs 13 speakers + sub + 2 amps. According to Tesla, reduction of a speaker has not caused any noticeable differences to the sound experience. Hope this helps!
1:50 stop repeating that BS. That's simply not possible. That Ryzen is a 45W chip. And that's under full load. Under most circumstances it will consume much less than that. Even if Intel Atom would not consume any electricity at all and ran on rainbows, it's still only 0.045kW extra. That's absolutely insignificant in comparison to some 20kW that motor is taking under normal steady driving conditions.
Hey thanks for raising this. I would have expected the same but just included this based on what I've read and what I was told by some Tesla reps (source: wccftech.com/amds-ryzen-cpu-reportedly-cuts-down-tesla-model-3s-driving-range/). Yeah sadly the inflation pressure and supply chain shortages aren't helping in reducing EV pricing for now... let's hope they get cheaper in the future.
