I've owned mine since May. The only complaint is the seat. Not comfortable after and hour or so. But an easy fix w/ the aftermarket. And getting used to the CP3 off the line... I'm used to 4 cyl. bikes and you need to rev the 3, a little higher to get started. Not a complaint, just an observation. All that said, I'm very happy w/ the XSR900! It inspires confidence and is really fun to ride! Great video, on a truly great bike!
Just got mine.. noticed the same. It's mostly the characteristics of the slipper clutch.. the slipper clutch is an lossier analog of the torque converter.. there is some torque multiplication by slipping the clutch, the larger the slip (RPM drop), the larger the multiplier. A proper slipper wet clutch loves being slipped. Facilitates a more useful 1st gear ratio. Love it!!
I notice Americans are all hung up on gears as if they are modes. Maybe it’s because they are conditioned with automatic cars. I never ponder over what gear I’m in. Could not care less. I care about revs(sound) and current speed. Nice bike and nice vid. Enjoyed listening to the exited new owner.
Yeah I'm going to take it off soon. My ear plug case got in between my Forks and tank yesterday when I was trying to make a u-turn and limited the already very limited turning radius. Can't have that happening
These bikes need 200 miles. Heat cycle is all it needs. Some people are just naturally obsessive. But pull both motors apart after 6k miles. You won't know which has the slow break in. Oil, quality glass and how you ride will make a much larger difference. Over revving, (holding on the green limit) holding a lower gear, etc.
17:50 it’s right there in the name, XSr 900. I’m currently on a 2023MT 10 and I love it. It’s completely excessive but that’s one of the things I love about it. I also had a 1979XS 1100 back in the day. That bike was insane. and I did test ride the new XSR 900 and I really liked it a lot. But I’m definitely staying with my MT 10. I love the CP four engine and of course all of the R1 goodies with the electronics package and quick up and down shifter of my MT 10
I really enjoy the MT10 as well but it has such a short wheelbase and I'm not much of a wheelie guy. I Love acceleration up to about 90 mph, but in the lower gears, If you give it full throttle at the power band, the mt10 just shoots right up in the air
JIMMY, The bike is a nice pick, by you, love the color !!! Shoot !!! Sitting right in my bedroom now, listening to your bike, it seems like your bike is a smooth riding, quiet bike, with a lot of power. THE BEST WITH IT ALWAYS !!! THE LAST, AND MOST IMPORTANT THING, I WANT TO SAY, BE SAFE OUT THERE, WITH IT !!!
Great vid. Is that stock exhaust? Sounds great. Must be the induction noise.. I was ready to buy the bmw r nine t, but didn't think it would be ballsy enough for me... Now, you got me thinking 😂
Yes it is the stock exhaust. And yes it has a loud amazing intake sound. Oh dude I highly recommend this bike or the new mto9. In its category nothing is as ballsy as the CP3 motor. The only thing that comes close is the Duke 890
Beautiful bike, am on vacation in Paris these days, wow you see many motorcycles, scooters of course, but a lot of big bikes, this and especially the t700 are very popular also a lot of European bikes like Triumph and BMW. There is a street in the middle of town where all the big dealers are, very cool street tao wander, also everyone rides from one stop light to the next like crazy, does not seam to be any policing concerning that, a lot of the bikes are very loud with aftermarket exhausts, seam normal here. If you are into big bike, walking around Paris can be very fun 😜
Hey ✌🏻 Your indicator lights of Flash lightsare permanently switched on. Is this always the case with the US version or have you been able to configure something?
Jimmy, would you recommend this bike to a 71 yr. old returning rider? I've always ridden responsibly and while I don't need all the power and speed this bike offers, few people do. I'm attracted to the technology and as far as I can tell, it has everything I'd want in a modern bike except self-canceling turn signals.
Why is every video on this bike about 0-60 or more time. After 14yo, sort of stopped asking about "how fast does it go" and started worrying more about how does it handle in corners? How forgiving is it if you enter a corner too fast and need to correct? How comfortable is the seat for 2 hours? Will my girl be comfortable on the back for an hour? Does it vibrate too much anywhere in the range? Does the riding position give you a cramp? Is the throttle twitchy? How are the stock tires in dry and wet conditions? How does it handle in town? How does it do on highway at highway speeds (blown all over the place or not). You know, stuff that we all need to care about. 0-100 not so much, since i was 14.
A good sports tourer would check all the boxes you named. No point in getting an mt-09 over that unless your seeking excitement. Which comes from its insane acceleration in first and second gear. The most recent video I've uploaded is much more concise than this one on the CP3 platform. My riding style is slightly aggressive and quick. You can see in the mt09 video how this bike would appeal to me.
Hey Jimmy, great Video from this new XSR 900. I am from Austria and i buy this great Bike yesterday in Midnight Black ;) Wow, it looks so good (but i like the Legend Blue one too). Have fun. See you. Greatings from Austria.
I was so set on the XSR700 until I started watching more XSR900 videos. I am SO torn right now. Both are available within 100 miles of where I live but nobody allows test rides.
900 all day long, the brakes and suspension are way better than the 700, I was riding an MT07 before I bought the XSR900 and the throttle on this is so much better, with the CP2 setup it seems like it's either all or nothing, and on the 900 you get all the rider aids
The xsr 900 is more fun overall and objectively better at a lot of things but I think something to consider is the mto9 has only been this good recently since the 2021 update. Versus the mto7 and xsr 700 have always been great so if you live in a dense area where you are doing a lot of City riding the move might be to get a used cp2 bike with an exhaust already on it for a much much lower price than a new 900. It will be half the price. The 900 is awesome, but it's not double as awesome. I think the biggest factor is experience level and if you have roads to take advantage of the power. On my xsr 700 I found myself accidentally going 0 to 70 from stop lights which isn't a huge deal. You definitely need more restraint on the 900 because I find myself going zero to 90 in the blink of an eye
I ended up getting the 700 this week. I'm 44, just started riding for the first time in May. I'm going from a Vstar 250 to the XSR700, so yeah...huge difference for me. I'm into acceleration, not top speed. Rode for 5 hours today and still smiling hours after getting off the bike. I don't see regretting getting thr 700 over the 900 anytime soon! Just sucks bike season is quickly dwindling here in NY😔
Mine has an annoying rattle somewhere around the head or timing chain. It's just super annoying and distracting. Only done 300km on mine so far. Have you noticed any rattle noises on yours? I'm aware that the cams are supposed to make lots of tappy noises but... just drives me nuts loud ticking all the time.. and i could swear it didnt have that sound for the first 50 or 100km.
I think I might have heard a noise like that here and there but it's only when there is one of those construction walls near me so the sound is bouncing off of that so it's loud enough for me to hear. Otherwise I never hear it
I feel like I’ve had that same crap with some of the bikes I’ve owned, including a 2022 MT-07 and 2014 Versys. So lame. Hoping to not hear it on the XSR900, if I am able to get one.
Why oh why have Yamaha fitted the world's smallest TFT dash to this and the MT09. Just ridiculous. Many people complain they cannot read the info on it because it's too small to read. No excuse Yamaha. Other manufactures fit larger ones to cheaper bikes than this so there is no reason for this other than penny pinching.
Bigger would be nice but the smaller one is less distracting for me and I can read it pretty well even with my not perfect vision. And even though I like big screens for practicality sake, I actually hate the way they look. Like I think the giant screen in Tesla's and new Mercedes is goofy as hell. Looks like someone strapped a laptop to the dash.
Yamaha: Give us 1 more gallon fuel capacity; make that tiny instrument screen larger (use the black space on that panel); give the steering some actual decent turning radius; make a seat that actually cradles a butt comfortably.
1st thing I did w/ my 2024. I painted the light brackets and heel guards flat black. I took it one step further and cut out another hole in the guards. Looks 'mavelous'!
I rented one for 4 hours. Turning radius is not good. Throttle mapping not good for me. My XSR900 laid down randomly 4 times for some reason. Very unnerving. Before you buy, rent one.
True if you're looking for a smooth operating experience those are two valid flaws. I have a very smooth throttle hand so I person received the throttle is perfection in second gear and Beyond and honestly I'm glad I finally owned a bike with bad turning radius as it taught me to get really good at u-turns and counterbalancing. Now I feel more prepared for any other bike I step on with low speed maneuvering
Your comment re quick shifter is spot on. My 17 S1000R has a QS, which ceased working when a micro switch failed and doing without QS for a week or so was a PITB. That said, I do deliberately do rides where I do not use QS just to keep those skills current
I actually tend to quick shift and manually shift on each ride. I have the 23 MT 10. It’s such a good clutch and transmission and quick shifter that I like using both. A lot of times I’ll find myself manually up shifting but then quit shipping down through the gears or vice versa. I mix it up, but I tend to use both on each ride.
Yeah I would definitely check it out. I heard it's a little more punchy and playful than the street triple. Look at the channel Big Rock Moto. He reviewed those two bikes back to back and ended up buying a MT09 SP
Thanks for the great ride, I got a real good feel for the bike. Makes me wonder should I trade my 2021 street triple rs for the xsr900? I'm crazy for the striple, but I'm always looking
I'm in a similar dilemma, i wanna change my xsr700 with one between the street triple and the xsr 900. I'll have to try them, i expect a better engine for street use from de Yamaha and a sharper attitude from the triple. It will be a tough choice since It Will be my bike for a long time. Don't wanna waste 12k. Any suggestions?
@@lorenzoriva202 The eternal question, which bike for me,,,, the xsr900 finally showed up at the local dealer and Ivsaw it for the first time the other day, sat on it, it was very comfortable, felt good but no demo ride - and seeing it in person I didn't care for it as much as I thought I would and prefer the off-beat hooligan look of the mt-09, The striple is smooth as silk, top quality components and faster than I will ever take it.... but if I can get an mt 09 without paying ridiculous added garbage fees I'm leaning that way, for now
Awesome. You'll probably get similar Vmax acceleration to 100 at least but with Superbike electronics and handling. I've owned it's almost 8 months now and it's been my favorite bike I've ever owned
I was really surprised how much easier it is to get on/off than the xsr700... that seat hump is actually in the right spot to hold me, but I would still like a flat seat for most of the time.
@@TheCoolestCourier I've owned a 2019 MT-09 which has that upright seating position. In my opinion this is not suited for a bike with an engine like that. You have to lean forward every time you accelerate to not fly off the back of the bike. I have been in so many situations where I was sitting upright, then hitting some bump on the street which intitiated a little bit of throttle that catapulted me forward, barely holding on. I am glad they now have this bike with a slightly forward position, if you really want upright you can still get the MT-09.
Honestly thanks for giving me that perspective. With this position I do have to say I have never felt more stable and control over a bike with this much power. And it does seem like it suits it very well. A truly sporty bike has to have some compromises I suppose. It's not too bad I can still ride for about 2 hours if I have to
I had an original triple.. the 1972 Kaw H2 750.. now a 2023 XSR900. The H2 clutch was Killer!! my left hand squeeze was never stronger.. if anybody needed a quick shifter it was the H2!
Oh man!!!! Awesome bike review. I had 2 yamaha back in the days RX100 and RX135. Yamaha is very close to my heart. Planning to buy one here is US very soon. Dont want to miss the 2023 blue model. I dont like the 2024 color. Have you done any mods since? Also what phone mount was on your bike?
Yeah I love the blue, it was definitely a dream bike. It's everything I wanted it to be. Good at everything and so fast off the line. Seat was hard. That's my only complaint. Unfortunately, I had an accident with a deer running into the road and the bike was totaled. Luckily my gear and airbag vest saved me. The video is on my channel. A couple videos back. The phone mount is rok form. I think they're the best
Nice bike. I testrode it last week. This is a very smooth bike. Should i buy it? Or will it cost my license......I own a also T7 WR and i like the 2 cilinder very much. That sound is amazing!!! (and a XT600 ;-) for the mud)
It's really hard to say. In my area I know all of the roads really well and on the huge ones I Scout up and down the road to see if cops are sitting before I do big first and second gear pulls on the bike. And I also have great canyon roads only 5 minutes from my house which are not patrolled by cops. The deeper you go the more desolate of an area it is. It's easy to be smart about it. You can't really do big pulls in city streets anyway, you'll just be whizzing by cars way too fast. But just like my XSR 700 it is easy to travel 20 mph above the speed limit on accident when cruising
@@TheCoolestCourier I live in The Netherlands to the Belgium and German border....No canyon here.... only the Eifel and the Ardennes at 1 hour drive. Hard to choose ;-)
There isn't some kind of throttle or traction control mode that allows you relatively high RPMs without highsiding yourself to the moon? I've always found that relatively high RPMs with relatively low throttle openings to be lot safer than having a throttle that you have to move so much in order to close it.
@@TheCoolestCourier The answer is, "yes". I bought an XSR900 about 3 days ago and checked the instruction manual on 5-14. SCS set to level 3 when within TCS-MODE M. This allows high throttle openings in low gear without any perceptible sliding.
1st gear actually. I ride in mode 2 most of the time, sometimes using mode 1. TC, lift control, and Slide control are all on the least invasive settings. Number 1 out of 3
Not sure if your being sarcastic. If not that's super interesting. You're the first person to not like the looks of the bike. I think it's one of the most beautiful bikes ever made and it gets a ton of attention and compliments left and right on its looks. I thought that the color combo was pretty out there and I was thinking there's no way every person likes something as wacky as this. I love it, but finally I found somebody who doesn't lol
Great bike. While it is impacting the bikes in small ways like this. Overall the newly redesigned mto9 and xsr900 are absolutely mind blowing. I can't believe that they can make a bike with this fit and finish, and up and down quickshifter, and this much character in the motor for 10k. I think it's the greatest bike ever made at that price point. When I show up to bike meets with guys and their Ducati panigale's and BMW S1000 RR's I can't believe how expensive they are. Pretty much the price of a car. And for the street I wouldn't want anything more. I think 0 to 100 mph this is the most fun platform to have
It's not, First and second gear are restricted to 75% power at full throttle from the factory, do a roll on in 3rd and you'll find out. I saw this in another vid of this bike, it's to tame the ridiculous power down low these engines have, it can also be chipped out so you have 100% power in the lower 2 gears.
I accidentally was bouncing off the rev limiter day one lol I was trying to shift before 8,000 RPM but the bike is just too quick and I wasn't used to it and couldn't get into gear in time
I've never heard of that brand. I wish we could order exhausts in California. I can't even buy it and ship it to another state I would literally have to have my friend buy it for me
Ya, I didn't do the full break in period when I bought the 2005 FZ-1 off the floor with .5 a mile on it. Traded it in with 97,500 miles on it in 2015 for the FJ-09. Yes we should break in gently, but of course Yamahas logo is tuning forks for a reason.🤜🤛 Definitely looking at getting an XSR900 as I sold the FJ do to the seat was like a plank and with back surgeries, wasn't the most comfortable. Then I shattered my ankle and was not being able to get my longer runs in. Now I'm starting to have withdrawals. It really helped with my PTSD. I also take care of my 92 year young Grandmother, am disabled and work 2 nights a week. So I don't go crazy. After selling my bike needed something to do so i went nuts on Hobby Grade RC'S that hit 0-70 in 3 sec, or 100mph in 6 sec. But at heart am a photographer, graphic artist and a rider. I miss taking my camera and the bike and be one with nature. Time to start selling the RC's, which one is $1000 by itself. Sell the RC's and get about $3000 for the collection I started during covid. Then save up till winter when they are trying to get the bikes off the the floor because they pay for them to sit there until sold. Sorry probably not a story you wanted to hear, but just talking to a fellow rider about it gets it out of my system. And to hear your smile and giggle, takes me back. Ty hopefully when they're making room for the 2023 models and needing to move the leftovers, I'll go to my friendly dealer and make a deal. When I bought the FJ-09, I did the same thing and paid $9400 (before trade in was talked about) for it and not the sticker price. They'll tell you they can't lower the price, but they can. Lol
I hope everything works out, thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing stuff like that and talking to people. I really am loving the bike but with the slightly aggressive position and hard seat it's not the most comfortable. I would say you should sit on one in a dealership but they usually don't have them just hanging around like that.
@@TheCoolestCourier ikr? I miss the days you could walk into a dealer and they had at least 2 colors of each new model and the other side of the dealer was used or the remaining previous years.
You have some cool hobbies man. I had an 03' FZ1 that I rode for 15years before selling it for money for my daughter a car. I've got a small bike I commute with, Lifan kpm 200, but I'm ready to get a bigger bike again, so I'm looking at Yamaha because of my previous experience with them. Trying to decide between the XSR 900, a gen 2 FZ1, an FZ10/MT10. Take care brother
@@nurzrachit7133 I just lost all interest in my hobbies. I can never ride again as my brain won't let me get back on one. Lost my grandmother I took care of the last 18 years to cancer in July. Riding home in August, hit a split about 4" wide with a lip in the highway that put my front tire in a death wobble in a curve slamming to the asphalt at 60 knowing me out and came too trying to stand up only to realize I was grinding fingers trying to stop sliding not standing up. My hand was stuck I front of my helmet as I watched my glove like it was in a cheese grater and then my finger on my palm being shredded apart. I guess 29 years of riding was enough. My mind and body can't take that again. And my motorcycle had been the safest vehicle I ever owned. First week I could drive the car after, got up the street and said NOPE, turned around and went home. Scared me to even be on the road. Severe concussion passing out at least once a day and the only reason I would come to is I stopped breathing. At E.R all they did was sow up lacerations on shin with x-ray, say nothing we can do about finger but x-ray anyway and sent home. No neck brace in ambulance, helmet was removed at scene, and no x-rays on neck, spine with hardware already in, no x-ray on ankle had several surgeries on and the had record of that as it was in their hospital. No protocol followed. And still have pressure on the side of head knocked out on. And don't get a Fly Racing helmet. The crown pads ok but around ears and rest is like foam brick. No give whatsoever. And all proff from me and police report was not my fault and caused by a gap in highway and not lit area right as you begin the lean for the curve. But every attorney says "we don't know who to go after but you have a case just keep trying. Really stop saying I have a case if you're an attorney and don't know who to go after. I can tell you who. And the ones that could help are against their interest as they do charity work for the state. 🙄🤨😤😠😡🤬. But guarantee it I hit the guardrail and lived they would have come after me for the damage to their property.
If you're cruising around you'll get High forties and if you're riding it hard you'll get low 40s. The headlight is awesome. The brights are the best I've ever used on a bike
Hello men! Thank you for such great video. I have some question for you. What do you think about is this bike will be good choice as an first bike? (mode 4 + max TC)
I'm uploading a video today talking about that actually. In short, I think it depends on age and riding experience. I think a 16-year-old who just got there license would probably kill themselves on this. How old are you and have you ridden dirt bikes or any other motorcycles before?
@@TheCoolestCourier I'm 30 years old. Have experince on little scooters, and have driver-licence. Now I'm waiting for self Midnight Black (it will be arrived in couple months)
Geez dude that's really pushing it, I would definitely take a few Advanced courses like yamaha's Champ School or anything similar to that. The bike is extremely easy and friendly to ride on the settings you're talking about but the danger is when you want to see how it's really meant to be ridden and you take those Rider AIDS off. If you don't know what you're doing there are many things that could go wrong with that. Braking distances are different with a faster bike and trying to go quick in the city you better have some good reaction time. Things come at you really quick versus a scooter. Just be careful, learn as you go, watch some RU-vid videos on techniques. I recommend MotoJitsu. But other than that congratulations and enjoy.
Haha yeah. Something I like about Yamaha is that for any given horsepower it seems like they're always the most violent and visceral feeling for that class. I couldn't imagine if they made something to compete with the street fighter v4s or the zh2
@@TheCoolestCourier Thanks for the info I have been looking at the 650 class as my first bike but I'm a bigger dude at 300lbs so I feel like a 650 would feel pretty slow in a month or two. Plus insurance is $100 cheaper a month for the 900. So its nice to know mode 4 is really watered down.
If you have a lot of experience with manual cars I suppose one could start on the 900. Just be cautious when getting comfortable and confident with the bike. Once you enjoy riding aggressively with the 900, the danger level is very high with doing so.
@@TheCoolestCourier I'm 32 I have owned and raced sports cars since I was a teenager. I have years of experience on dirt bikes just never bought a motorcycle. I have taken a MSF course, passed with perfect scores. My clutch control is pretty good and I like to think I have enough self control to handle it. But I'm not buying a bike until this coming spring, I live in the Midwest so riding season is just about done. I have plenty of time to sleep on it. Other choice is the Trident 660 and I may still end up going that route. (insurance quote really destroyed my options on bikes) Thank you for the info.
@@TheCoolestCourier yes I got rid of the Camaro about 6-7months ago .. did a lot of mods, Big turbo, water methanol, e85,downpipes, intake, BOV,weld bead locks full exhaust the works but it was time to part ways.. now I drive a Cadillac lol
No I'm not actually. I love the Intake sound on this. I'd probably attempt to make that louder with a less restrictive air filter but that's about it. I love that the exhaust is underneath the bike as well. On my xsr700 I wanted an exhaust the whole time I owned it though. I will do a tail tidy kit though. Also a tune to fix that 2nd gear deadzone
I'm in Southern California, mine was $13,300 OTD but after the fact I did purchase the usual 5-year unlimited mile warranty only because it was heavily discounted at $550. I got it at Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino. Every other dealer besides them quoted me at 14.5 as well. The bike is so damn good that I think it is worth every penny of something like $15,000 but it is really messed up how Yamaha wanted to offer this at an amazing price of 10K and the dealers are just wrecking the whole thing
@@TheCoolestCourier i guess cause low inventory all over the country. They are taking advantage. At this point i may as well just save up and be ready to buy a 23' as soon as 1 is near me. I think it will be same bike but u never know. I gotta have the black one though. Thats one hell of a price! U must have wheeled and dealed. Congrats bro
First and second gear aren't restricted for emissions , it's to tame power output so it doesn't continuously wheelie in first and second, it will still wheel stand, but as you noted, once in 3rd you have full power . It can easily be chipped for full power in the lower gears...
I had a 2022 Tracer 9GT (RIP). My gosh that bike was fun. Same engine as this one. I am still recovering from my accident, but I love the look of this bike and knowing it has that same engine and quick shifter, it literally makes you thirst to ride it fast. So fun. How is is the knee bend on it? To be honest, the Tracer was not the most comfortable bike to ride but that was mostly a seat problem. I’m 6’2 with long legs so it’s a challenge.
Sorry to hear about the crash but glad to hear you’re healing and doing okay man. The engine is a real gem! Surprised after 3months nobody responded but goes to show how few are being delivered. I’d say the controls are semi-sporty but the knee bend is plenty comfortable for longer rides. I’ve already been on a few 2+ hr rides and the seat is breaking in nicely. First ride home sucked but much better now @ 600mi. Far from plush but not as rock hard as most reviewers would have you think.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. I've never ridden a bike with a steering damper so I wouldn't know but I would guess not because at any speed this bike is super stable
It still pulls quick enough to where it doesn't bother me and all of the updates the mt09 got in 2021 are well worth it for me to put up with this one issue but it does suck that I probably will have to tune it if I want that fixed
It's only an issue if you have no idea what's actually happening... Yamaha has purposely done it to tame power in the lower 2 gears, I've heard to 75% , and it will still wheel stand easily, you can easily have it tuned out....
Hi, nice video. How is the comfort ?. Is it comfortable for long rides (3-4 hours) ?, Is is comfortable for the passenger ?. Thanks. I am trying to decide what bike to buy. Problem is, many local dealers do not have stock available (no XSR 900, no BMW R nine T, no Kawasaki Z900 RS, no Yamaha MT 09). All I have to decide between is the Triumph Speed Twin 1200, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute or the Honda CB1000R. Not sure if to wait for the XSR 900 (cheaper, lighter and well equipped), or go with one of the other three. Another problem is that Honda and Ducati have no test bike for the CB1000R or the Scrambler 1100. I could test the Speed Twin 1200 and the Yamaha MT09 (but not the XSR 900).
The bike is comfortable for 2 hour rides. At the 2-hour Mark you start noticing the seat is a little thin and the forward position is slightly less comfortable than fully upright. Out of all the bikes you mentioned the mto9 and the xsr 900 are going to be the most fun by far. But if not Yamaha I think the Triumph and the Ducati are good bikes as well just a little more chill of a riding experience.
