Thanks for the explanations and time marks. It doesn't look like they're reporting to the keepers but just looking in. I thought the leader would be able to threaten a weaker gorilla without the others getting angry if he's a strong leader? Can you you tell me about this?

Such a display of rage from Nene which unbalanced the troop. Shabani kept strong and firm, stood his ground. He could swipe Nene with one arm and seriously hurt her, but he is a gentle giant. He knows who starts things and must remain calm to maintain balance. He’s big daddy, things will calm down.

Seems the only thing that fires Shabani into action is a threat towards Princess Annie which is a great attribute as a father but not the best when you're leading a troop and need everyone to stay inline and do as their told.

WOW, what a fight. You could have cut the tension in the air with a knife. You did an awesome job editing this video. I seen another version of this fight from another channel, but it was only in the indoor enclosure with Shabani chasing Kiyo. You got the whole thing right from the start. Nene is so vocal, and then we have the peacemaker Ai staying clear of things. What a silverback wont do for a loving daughter. Thank you for this award winning video of the epic fight with the Shabani family. Glad everything is back to normal now.

Annie the peacemaker with her sad eyes looks very thin. Maybe Nene is overreacting because she is not thinking straight because of her age. I don’t think Shabani meant to harm Kiyo. Ai is always in the middle and just wants everyone to stop. It broke my heart to see Kiyo hiding and he looked so sad 😢I hope they work it out and that Annie is healthy 😊

There's a LOT of tension and stress, and it appears to be taking its toll on all of them, especially poor Annie. They need separation; it's not the wild where Kiyomasa could more easily venture out of the group. He needs his own space.

La cosa che fa capire quanto è alta la tensione è che c'è cibo da tutte le parti,e loro non mangiano, Nene sarà pure anziana ma quando si tratta di suo figlio diventa una leonessa, Kiyomasa si fa forte di questo ed è anche protetto da sua sorella Ai, Annie poverina cercava di calmare suo papà,io penso che siano solo dimostrazioni perché se Shabani avesse voluto far del male ci sarebbe riuscito. My heart goes out to this whole family, from Shabani on down. A tough time-uneaten food and poop all over the place. Definitely upsetting for all of them. Particularly Annie, who is so close to both her Pop and her brother. She’s looking screamingly thin. So touching to see her trying to snatch little calming moments in the sun. And then, Nene-whom it took me a long time to warm up to after her attacks on baby Annie-is certainly a great old gal when on the warpath! Wishing them a good period of peace and reconciliation after this. But we’re probably looking at more, as Kiyo’s not going to stop growing toward being a silverback. And Shabani must assert his leadership. Thank you for all your work piecing this together for us. And for including the sound.❤

Thank you for your comment. Immediately after Annie returned to the herd, Kiyomasa took her precious towel and when she tried to retrieve it, Nene joined Kiyomasa and attacked Annie. You are watching very well. I'm impressed. 🦍💨🥕🍆🥬

@@KathyJo. When Annie was born, Ai wasn’t interested in being a mother, so the baby was hand-raised by the zookeepers, with Shabani fascinated and constantly visiting her thru the bars. When months later she was reunited, Ai still had no interest and Nene would attack little Annie, feeling her presence a threat to her own status and her son’s. Shabani raised her and protected her from Nene. Meanwhile, Annie and her half-brother (or maybe she’s his 3/4 sister!) have become close, growing up together. In recent years Annie and Ai (who is also Nene’s child, by a previous silverback) have become “friends.” I don’t recall an instance where Ai outright protected Annie, but I don’t catch every vid. This is a special family, as they all are! Happy gorilla watching . . .🦍🤗

I'm not familiar with gorillas, and I don't know how many of them were born in captivity. However, I suppose it's VERY stressfull living with your whole life on view by another species. And there's no way each individual can play the role or do the job they would naturally do in the wild. It's heartbreaking to see them suffer this life.

I have never seen Annie this shaken before. She seemed so stiff when she was walking, shaken to the point she avoided Ai. At least it seems that Ai checked in on her a little while later to see if she was okay. I really hope Annie is alright ☹☹

However l don't love the basic concrete enclosure they are in prison like,too many gorillas per square meter people laughing at them oblivious. Y They need to move some of the males. Thank you for your comment. There may be scenes in the video where he looks skinny, but Higashiyama Zoo has a weight scale, and we can see the gorilla when he gets on the scale. When it comes to eye, it weighs 130 kg and is large. Only Annie lost weight at this point, but she still weighed 88kg. (Currently over 90kg) Kiyomasa is big. It can't be helped because Nene is already old. That's how it is.

Thanks for this comment! I clearly see it. I read that when young male gorillas mature, the silverback knows this, and tries to maintain order. Unfortunately with females in the troop, it causes some tension. That is when the maturing young male leaves the troop in the wild to find a mate of his own. Again thanks for the clarity

The zoo doesn't need to do anything at present. Kiyo will get over this just fine. He is just learning the natural order of things that not only Shabani is his father but furthermore his leader. Maybe the lines were a little blurry for Kiyo, so Shabani is just setting things straight, as he knows Kiyo is getting older and letting him know hierarchy. It's a learning and teaching curve from Shabani. It's not at the stage where Kiyo needs to be moved immediately, but obviously, in due course, he will be moved to start a family or bachelors.

If you know of the Momentaro family, Gentaro is more at the stage to be moved from his family than what Kiyo is with his family. If this behaviour was happening all the time, it would be different, but at the minute it isn't.

это недоразумение. Шабани весит более 200 кг, а Ай весит 125 кг, что намного выше среднего женского веса. Киёмаса тоже мускулистый. Только Энни выглядит худощавой, но ее вес составляет 88 кг, что близко к среднему. Нене в этом году исполняется 52 года, так что о ее весе не может быть и речи. Вот так вот. ( ´🐽`)y━･~~

Part of Nene's anger I think comes from the fact that she's very protective of her son and also she's come to realize that she's not really wanted by Shabani that much anymore and he's chosen her younger prettier daughter as his primary partner and she probably is jealous of that as well and it's a combination of those things take it to her to become as angry as she is when she gets protective of her son

I don't think that is the issue at all 1, shabani is still mating with nene . 2. He isn't mating with ai, unless I have missed something. So you're comment really doesn't make sense. Nene isn't going to be jealous of ai when shabani isn't mating with her. And she isn't going to think that shabani doesn't want her anymore, because he is still mating with her. However, yes she is very protective of kyomasa, she has always been ready to go to war for him.

Estou chorando, é tudo muito impactante e triste, Shabani é um bom pai, não é um gorila ruim, se ele quisesse poderia machucar a Nenê e a AI, mas ele está nervoso e quieto, na floresta, no habitat dos gorilas na maioria das vezes também acontece assim, o filho fica adulto vai embora em busca de fêmeas para forma uma família, AI, está muito exaltada, logo ela que rejeitou a filha, foi bem pior, o Zoo vai ter que resolver essa situação.
